A planned update to Cozmo, the much-loved little robot that plays games with cubes. It isn't on sale, nobody has tested it, and its maker has been sued over undelivered robot orders.

The short version
Cozmo 2.0 is Digital Dream Labs' planned revival of Anki's Cozmo, a palm-sized robot on tank tracks with an animated face. The original played games with three light-up cubes, learned faces and taught children simple block coding through a phone app. The 2.0 version promises a sharper camera for recognising people, extra sensors to stop it driving off tables, a colour face, a touch sensor on its back and a battery claimed to last up to 30% longer and easier to swap.
The catch is that you can't buy it. The maker's page says it's coming soon and sold out, with only a sign-up for pre-order news. Pre-orders were taken before, and in 2024 Pennsylvania's Attorney General sued Digital Dream Labs over thousands of robot orders, Cozmo 2.0 among them, that went unfilled or unrefunded. Until units ship and someone tests them, the improvements are just promises.
Our take: If you loved the original Cozmo, sign up for news but don't hand over money until reviewers have units in hand. If you want a small, characterful desk robot now, LivingAI's EMO is on sale and has plenty of owners. Vector 2.0 is in stock from the same maker, but the same company history applies, so buy only where returns are easy.

What we know so far
Limited evidence No independent, finished hands-on review of this robot yet. What follows comes from the maker's specifications and early coverage, and says where something is untested.
Nobody has reviewed Cozmo 2.0, because it hasn't shipped. The best guide is TechRadar's review of the original Cozmo, which it recommended as a fun, clever toy that teaches coding, while grumbling about fiddly setup and short play sessions. The other thing a buyer needs to know comes from CBS News Pittsburgh: Pennsylvania's Attorney General sued Digital Dream Labs in 2024 over unfilled robot orders, including Cozmo 2.0.

The original had real personality
TechRadar described the original Cozmo as a cross between Wall-E and a digger and called it an intelligent, fun toy. It loved the robot's expressions, its tantrums when pushed over and the way it learned faces and said your name back. If 2.0 keeps the same character, that's the reason to wait for it, but nobody has seen the new version in action yet.
Cube games and coding
Most of the fun with the original came from the three power cubes: TechRadar liked the side games such as Quick Tap, a colour version of snap, and rated the block-based Code Lab as simple and addictive. The 2.0 listing still pitches Cozmo as a coding robot for kids that works through the app the specifications, so expect the same style of play.
Setup and play time
TechRadar found setting up the original a tad laborious: the app joins Cozmo's own Wi-Fi and you type a long code from its tiny face, which may frustrate younger children. A 30-minute charge gave around 90 minutes of play. Cozmo 2.0 claims up to 30% more runtime and an easier-to-replace battery the specifications, but nobody has measured it.
Orders haven't been delivered
CBS News Pittsburgh reported in September 2024 that Pennsylvania's Attorney General sued Digital Dream Labs over about 14,000 robot orders placed between November 2020 and January 2024, Cozmo 2.0 among them. Customers who had prepaid weren't given refunds or updates on delays. The maker's page still shows Cozmo 2.0 as coming soon the specifications. Don't pre-pay for one on the strength of a promised date.
Cozmo 2.0 hasn't been released or reviewed. The hands-on findings above come from TechRadar's review of the original Anki Cozmo, and they don't cover anything new in 2.0.

Can I actually buy one?
No. The maker's page lists it as coming soon and sold out, with only a sign-up for pre-order news the specifications. CBS News Pittsburgh reported that earlier Cozmo 2.0 pre-orders are among those named in Pennsylvania's 2024 lawsuit over undelivered robots, so treat any future pre-order with caution.
Is it suitable for young children?
The 2.0 page doesn't give an age rating, though it's billed as a coding robot for kids the specifications. TechRadar says the original was aimed at ages 8 and up, and warned that its setup code could frustrate younger users. Under-8s would need an adult to handle the app.
How long does the battery last?
Unknown for 2.0. The original gave TechRadar around 90 minutes of play from a 30-minute charge. The new model claims up to 30% more, and the battery is designed to be swapped at home, per the specifications. Wait for a test before counting on it.
What happens if the company stops supporting it?
It's a real worry here. Play depends on the Cozmo app on a phone or tablet the specifications, so the robot is only as good as that app's future. CBS News Pittsburgh reported Pennsylvania's lawsuit over unfilled orders and missing refunds. Buy only from a seller with a clear refund route.
