Who we are and how to contact us
For questions about how we use personal information, or to exercise your privacy rights, email ben@robotsrated.com.
Please describe your request and, if it concerns a review you submitted, include the email address used for that submission. Do not send passwords or identity documents with your initial enquiry.
Using Robots Rated
You can browse the catalogue, use Find my robot and compare products without an account. Find my robot uses your answers in your browser to suggest products; it does not save an account profile or send those answers to a recommendations server.
The owner-review page checks whether submissions are available before showing the form. We do not currently accept receipt uploads, take payments or collect delivery details. Purchases take place on the manufacturer or retailer website you choose to visit.
Contact enquiries
When you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, enquiry type and message so we can respond. We use Resend to deliver the message to our email inbox. Your details are not published or added to a marketing list.
We process enquiries in our legitimate interests in responding to questions, corrections and business enquiries. We keep correspondence for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any related follow-up or legal obligations. A temporary hash derived from your IP address helps prevent abuse of the form. Please do not include passwords, payment details or sensitive personal information.
Our email providers may process messages outside your country. Read Resend’s privacy notice for information about its handling of email data.
Owner reviews
When submissions are available, we collect your display name, email, ownership details, rating and review, together with any optional details and disclosures you provide. Your email is used for verification and is not included in the public review. We store submissions for verification and moderation; submitting a review does not publish it automatically.
Reviews are stored using Supabase. A hash derived from your IP address helps limit repeated submissions. Moderators can access pending submissions and your email; only approved review content is returned by the public review service. Please do not include sensitive information in your review. The form asks for your consent to storage, moderation and possible publication.
Price-drop alerts
On a robot’s page you can ask us to email you when its price drops in your country. When you do, we store your email address (in lower case), the robot, the country and currency of the page, the page’s language, the price you asked about if you gave one, the lowest price the page showed when you signed up, and the price and date of any alert we have sent you. We also keep the date you signed up and confirmed, a record of each consent you gave (when, and the exact wording version you saw), and random codes that make the links in our emails work. If you sign up again for an alert you already have, your new choices are held with it until you confirm them, together with when we last sent you a confirmation email; to stop anyone flooding an inbox, we also log each confirmation email sent under a one-way hash of the address, and delete that log after a day. We do not store your IP address or any other technical information about you for alerts; a temporary hash of your IP address is used only in memory to slow down repeated sign-ups.
When you open a link from one of our alert emails, its code is moved out of the page address into a cookie (rr-alert-confirm or rr-alert-manage) that only our alert pages can read, that expires after an hour, and that is needed to confirm, change or delete your alerts. The alert pages load no analytics or other outside scripts.
Why, and our lawful basis. We use these details only to send the alerts you asked for, and, if you separately ticked the second box, occasional emails from Robots Rated about deals and new reviews. Both rely on your consent. The two are separate: the alert never depends on the marketing emails, and neither box is ticked for you. Nothing is sent until you click the link in the confirmation email we send first. We never share or sell your email address.
Who processes it. Alerts are stored using Supabase and the emails are sent by Resend, on our behalf and under their data processing terms. Like our hosting provider Vercel, they may process data outside your country; see Supabase’s privacy policy and Resend’s privacy notice for their locations and international transfer safeguards.
How long we keep it. A sign-up that is not confirmed is deleted after 7 days. A confirmed alert stays until you unsubscribe from it. Unsubscribing, “Unsubscribe from everything” and “Delete all my data” delete the records straight away. Resend keeps its own delivery logs for a limited period under its terms.
Your choices and rights. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link and a link to a page where you can see your alerts, remove one, turn the deals emails on or off, unsubscribe from everything or delete all your data. You can withdraw consent at any time; doing so does not affect emails already sent. You can also ask us for a copy of your details, or to correct or delete them, by emailing ben@robotsrated.com.
Hosting and country selection
Vercel hosts this website. Delivering pages and protecting the service involves processing technical information such as your IP address, requested URL, browser information and request time. Operational and security logs may be used to investigate errors and abuse.
We use the country supplied by our hosting service, your browser language or your saved market choice to show relevant currencies and buying options. This is country-level selection; we do not request your device’s precise location.
For personal information used to deliver, secure and maintain the site, we rely on our legitimate interests in providing a working, secure comparison service. Read Vercel’s privacy notice for more about the hosting provider.
Ahrefs Web Analytics
We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to understand traffic and improve the website. Its reports include visited pages, referring websites, link and form interaction events, device and browser types, language, and approximate country or city.
Ahrefs describes its default Web Analytics service as cookie-free. It uses an IP address to derive approximate location and calculate daily visitor counts, then discards the raw IP address. According to Ahrefs, its daily identifiers do not track a visitor across different days or websites. This is separate from the functional browser storage described below.
We use these statistics to understand which content people find useful. Where processing technical information for this measurement involves personal information, our purpose is our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the service. See how Ahrefs Web Analytics works and Ahrefs’ privacy policy. You can use browser tracking protection or a content blocker to block the analytics script.
Cookies and saved preferences
When you choose a market, we save that preference in your browser so you see the corresponding prices and shopping links. These settings support the choices you make on the site.
- Market cookie:
rr-marketstores your market choice for up to one year from the time it is set. - Market preference:
rr-market-v1stores the same choice in local storage. - Price-alert links:
rr-alert-confirmandrr-alert-managehold the code from an alert email’s link for up to one hour, only on our price-alert pages (see Price-drop alerts). - Comparison selection:
robotsrated-comparestores selected product names and identifiers when you use the comparison selection feature.
Saved market and comparison preferences in local storage do not expire automatically. They remain until you change or clear them, or your browser removes them. Clear site data for robotsrated.com in your browser settings to remove saved preferences and cookies. Blocking storage may prevent the site from remembering your choices; you can still browse product pages.
Links, product images and purchases
Retailer, manufacturer, review and video links open third-party websites with their own privacy policies. If an image is loaded directly from an external host, that host receives the technical information needed to deliver it, including your IP address and browser information.
Affiliate tracking is not currently connected. Ordinary outbound clicks can still appear in our Ahrefs traffic statistics. We do not receive your payment details when you buy from a linked retailer. Read our affiliate disclosure for the current position on commercial links.
Where information is processed and kept
Vercel, Ahrefs, Supabase and Resend operate internationally, so information may be processed outside your country. Their privacy and legal documents linked above describe their processing locations and international transfer safeguards.
Browser preferences remain on your device as described above. Hosting logs are retained according to the provider’s service settings and operational requirements; relevant records may be needed to investigate a security incident or meet a legal obligation. Ahrefs retains traffic statistics under its service terms. We do not promise a fixed deletion period for records managed by those providers.
Your privacy rights
Depending on the law that applies and the information involved, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, restrict its use, and receive a portable copy where that right applies.
You can object to processing based on legitimate interests. The right to object applies to personal information, rather than aggregate statistics that cannot be linked to you.
You can also raise a concern with your local data protection authority. In the UK, you can contact the Information Commissioner’s Office.
We update this notice when our data practices change and show the revision date at the top of this page.
