What we know

At 5.75kg, BWT says the COSMY 200 weighs about half as much as a conventional pool robot, and the BWT overview calls the series ultra-light. It runs on a 16-metre cable from a power supply by the pool, drives in lanes with a gyroscope and offers cycles of 1.5, 2 or 2.5 hours. All of this comes from BWT's own pages, so it tells you how the robot is meant to work, not how well it cleans.

Light enough to lift easily

At 5.75kg, BWT says the COSMY 200 is about half the weight of a conventional pool robot, and a quick-drain body lets water pour out as you lift it. It stands about 20cm tall and measures 37.5 by 36.5cm. BWT sums up the COSMY series as ultra-light and very popular for that reason. If hauling a waterlogged robot out of the deep end is what puts you off, this is its strongest point.

Corded, with three cycle lengths

It plugs into BWT's Jupiter power supply by the pool through a 16-metre cable, per BWT. A button on the supply starts and stops it, and the app lets you pick a 1.5, 2 or 2.5-hour cycle. BWT rates the pump at 15 cubic metres an hour and the robot at 150 watts. As it's corded, there's no battery to wear out or recharge. BWT doesn't mention a swivel, though.

How it finds its way

BWT describes a gyroscope-assisted system that drives in lanes, spots walls as it approaches and decides whether to climb and clean them. It says the robot detects obstacles such as ladders and pool covers in time to avoid them, and uses two drive motors with planetary gears for grip on steep sections.

A basic filter

The robot uses a single-layer mesh basket that BWT says catches particles down to 150 microns and holds more than 800g of dirt per cycle. That's fine for leaves, insects and sand, but finer dust will pass through, and BWT doesn't list a finer filter for it. If silt is your main problem, look at a robot with an ultra-fine filter option.

What's not checked yet

We couldn't find an independent hands-on test of the COSMY 200, only shop listings. So nobody has checked how completely it covers a real pool floor, how it handles steps, benches and corners, whether the cable twists or tangles over time without a swivel, how the filter copes with fine dirt, or how easy the basket is to empty and rinse. For now, the details from BWT are all there is.

Our take

Should you buy the COSMY 200?

Best for: Pools whose owners want a light cleaner and do not mind a power cable. Skip it if: You want a stronger record in independent tests before buying.

Consider it if lifting a heavy robot out of the pool is what you dread, your pool is under 10 metres and you don't mind a cable. Until someone tests it, a robot with independent reviews is the safer buy: the WYBOT C2 is cordless and two testers found it simple and effective, and the Beatbot Sora 10 is light and cordless too.

The COSMY 200 is a corded robot from BWT, the European water-treatment company, and one of the lightest full-pool robots around at 5.75kg. It runs from a power supply by the pool through a 16-metre cable, cleans the floor, walls and waterline on cycles of 1.5, 2 or 2.5 hours, and can be controlled from BWT's COSMY app. BWT pitches it at pools up to 10 metres long.

Everything here comes from BWT, so it tells you how the robot is meant to work, not how well it cleans. The single 150-micron basket suits leaves and sand rather than fine dust, and BWT doesn't mention a swivel to stop the cable twisting. BWT's ES 800 shares its weight, pump rating and cycle times, with a longer swivelling cable, a three-year warranty and a rating for pools up to 12 metres.

The questions people ask about this one

Does it climb walls and clean the waterline?

BWT says it cleans the floor, walls and waterline of pools up to 10 metres long, climbing a wall when it meets one, per the specifications. We found no independent test of how well it does that, so treat it as a claim.

Is it cordless?

No. It runs through a 16-metre cable from BWT's power supply by the pool, per the specifications, so there's no battery to charge and runs last as long as the cycle you pick: 1.5, 2 or 2.5 hours.

How do I get it out of the pool?

It weighs 5.75kg and has a quick-drain body, per the specifications, so lifting it out should be easier than with most full-size robots. BWT doesn't say whether it parks at the wall, so you may need to pull it in by the cable.

How do I clean the filter?

It has a single mesh basket that catches particles down to 150 microns and holds more than 800g of dirt, per the specifications. We've seen no report on how easy it is to empty and rinse, and there's no ultra-fine filter listed for fine dust.

Does it need an app?

Not for everyday use. A button on the power supply starts and stops it, and BWT's free COSMY app lets you set the cycle length from your phone, per BWT. We found no test of how well the app works.

Why consider it: It's cordless, and two testers found it simple and effective on everyday debris.

The compromise: A third tester found the suction weak and the weekly timer limiting.

Sora 10

Why consider it: Light, simple and cordless, and it cleans the walls and waterline too.

The compromise: Testers found it wanders, skips steps, and may sink again if you're slow to collect it.

Why consider it: Another simple corded robot, and three dealer-linked tests found it picks up leaves and dirt well.

The compromise: It cleans only the floor and has no timer.
