What we know

Maytronics' European listing (Maytronics (global)), its Australian listing (Maytronics (Australia)) and a French launch article (Maytronics (France)) describe a fully featured corded robot: app control, a Bluetooth remote, a temperature sensor, a filter gauge, pick-up mode and a four-year warranty. Maytronics (France) calls it the most advanced and hard-wearing robot in the Dolphin range, which is the maker's own claim. Beyond Maytronics, search turned up dealer listings and affiliate round-ups, and no owner reviews we could check.

App, remote and cleaning modes

The M700 connects to home Wi-Fi and the MyDolphin Plus app for schedules and manual steering, per Maytronics (Australia). According to Maytronics (France), the Bluetooth remote chooses between floor-only, full-pool and ultra-clean modes, short, default or long cycles, and cleaning every two or three days. Maytronics (global) lists 1.5, 2 and 2.5-hour cycles. Start pick-up mode from the app and it heads to the pool edge for collection.

Temperature sensor and filter gauge

Two features set it apart from most Dolphins. A built-in sensor sends the pool's water temperature to your phone, per Maytronics (global), and a filter indicator warns when the basket needs emptying. Maytronics (France) says the gauge shows how full the filter is on a scale of one to five. That's handy if you run it while you're away.

Warranty, caddy and cable swivel

Maytronics (global) and Maytronics (Australia) both list a four-year warranty, a year longer than the M600's. A caddy comes with it for moving it between the pool and storage, and a swivel on the cable is meant to stop it twisting as the robot turns. Maytronics (Australia) also lists a dual drive motor with a gyroscope to keep it on course.

What's not checked yet

Our search found dealer listings, affiliate round-ups and Maytronics' own articles, but no finished test of the M700 by an independent reviewer. So the basics are still open: how completely it covers walls and the waterline, how it handles steps, how the app behaves over a season, how accurate the temperature sensor and filter gauge are, and how the drive and swivel hold up over several seasons. The Maytronics (global) listing explains the design, and that's all.

Our take

Should you buy the M700?

Best for: Large in-ground pools needing floors, walls and the waterline cleaned. Skip it if: You want a stronger record in independent tests before buying.

Consider it if you buy through a pool shop, have a large in-ground pool and want app control with a long warranty, but know that nobody independent has tested it. The Nautilus CC Plus is a corded Dolphin with three tests, and the Dolphin Liberty 600 covers the same pool size without a cable.

The M700 sits above the M600 at the top of Dolphin's dealer-sold M-line. It plugs into the mains, scrubs the floor, walls and waterline, and connects over Wi-Fi to the MyDolphin Plus app for schedules and steering by hand. Over cheaper Dolphins it adds a sensor that reports water temperature, a gauge showing how full the filter is, a swivel on the cable, a caddy and a Bluetooth remote. Maytronics rates it for pools up to fifteen metres.

It is corded, so you still manage a cable, though the swivel should help and a pick-up mode brings it to the edge for lifting out. A caddy comes in the box for moving it to storage. It comes with a four-year warranty, a year longer than the M600's, and isn't sold in the UK.

The questions people ask about this one

Does it climb walls and clean the waterline?

Maytronics lists floor, walls and waterline cleaning, per the specifications, and Maytronics (Australia) says multi-directional water jets help it grip vertical surfaces. The remote also offers a floor-only mode. We couldn't find an independent test of how well it scrubs the waterline yet.

Does it need an app?

Not strictly. Maytronics (France) says the Bluetooth remote picks the mode, cycle length and a two- or three-day programme. The MyDolphin Plus app over Wi-Fi adds control from anywhere, notifications, the temperature reading and manual steering, per the specifications.

How do I get it out of the water?

Pick-up mode sends it to the pool edge so you can lift it out, per the specifications, and Maytronics (Australia) says it climbs the wall for a few seconds at the end of a cycle. A caddy is included for moving it. Maytronics doesn't list its weight.

How do you clean the filter?

Maytronics describes a multi-layer filter that catches fine and ultra-fine particles, per the specifications, with an ultra-fine kit included. A filter indicator tells you when to empty it, and Maytronics (France) says it shows the fill level from one to five.

Nautilus CC Plus

Why consider it: Three independent testers found this corded Dolphin cleans floors and walls quickly, with filters that are easy to empty.

The compromise: It sometimes sticks on steps, and testers disagree about whether it cleans the waterline.

LIBERTY 600

Why consider it: Two testers found this cordless Dolphin leaves floors very clean, filters well and comes up when you shake the clicker.

The compromise: It wanders at random, and one tester found its step jet shifted only part of the dirt.

Premier

Why consider it: A long-running corded Dolphin with a choice of filters, including a big leaf bag, and testers rate its waterline scrubbing highly.

The compromise: It has no app, and it's heavy to lift out.
