The short version
The AiMowbot C20 and C40 are Greenworks's wire-free robot mowers for mostly flat US lawns, launched at Walmart in March 2026. The C20 is rated for lawns up to half an acre and the C40 for up to an acre. They find their way using satellites and a front camera together, which Greenworks says keeps them on track under trees, and a 3D camera with night-vision sensors is meant to spot and avoid pets, toys and other objects. You draw the lawn, zones and no-go areas in the phone app, and set the cutting height there too.
What you don't get yet is proof. The only reviews so far are YouTube videos, most of them posted in the same launch week with Greenworks links, and one labelled as sponsored. Until independent testers have lived with one, the cut, the edges and the obstacle spotting are Greenworks's claims rather than findings. Europe gets a different AiMowbot range with its own model numbers.
Our take: Hold off unless you're happy to be an early adopter. Greenworks's figures are competitive, but nobody independent has tested these mowers yet. If you want a wire-free mower with a track record now, the Segway Navimow i1 has four reviews behind it for smaller lawns, and the Husqvarna Automower 305E NERA for a proven finish.

What we know so far

There's no independent, finished review yet. The videos we found all come from YouTube channels: RLLWoodworks and DIY (YouTube), Josh Quiñonez (YouTube) and GregglesTV (YouTube) posted in the same launch week with campaign links and Greenworks tags, and Tools Zone (YouTube) labels its video as sponsored. So everything below is what Greenworks claims, or what those video descriptions say, rather than tested findings. Nobody independent has yet tested the cut, the edges, the obstacle spotting or the larger C40.
What the launch videos highlight
RLLWoodworks and DIY (YouTube) lists the C20's strengths as very quiet running, fast charging, easy mapping, mowing at night, front-wheel drive and custom stripes. Tools Zone (YouTube) says it tested the object detection, navigation, tight paths and tree cover, but its video is sponsored by Greenworks. GregglesTV (YouTube) covers setup, mapping, noise, uneven ground and obstacle avoidance. None of these is an independent test, so treat them as a tour rather than a verdict.
Nobody has tested the edges yet
Greenworks says the mower can cut close to edges to reduce trimming, and that its camera-assisted positioning copes with narrow paths and large tree canopies, per Greenworks. No independent tester has checked either claim. Until someone does, assume you'll still strim along borders, as with nearly every robot mower, and that heavy tree cover may need testing in your own garden.
Obstacle spotting is a claim for now
Greenworks says a 3D camera with a 148° view, AI detection and a physical bumper let it recognise and avoid more than 200 kinds of object, including pets and toys, and that night-vision sensors and headlights let it mow after dark. Nobody independent has checked this yet. Clear the lawn before it runs until there's proper evidence.
No independent, finished review of either the C20 or C40 yet. The European AiMowbot 6 to 12 are a different range.

The questions people ask about this one
Does it need a boundary wire?
No. You drive or draw the boundary, zones and no-go areas in the phone app, and it positions itself by satellite and camera, per Greenworks. RLLWoodworks and DIY (YouTube) found mapping easy, though that video was part of Greenworks's launch campaign.
Will it cope with my slope?
Greenworks rates both models for 45% slopes, with oversized front-drive wheels for grip, per the specifications. No independent tester has measured that yet. GregglesTV (YouTube) includes a section on uneven ground, but its video carries Greenworks campaign links.
How noisy is it for neighbours?
Greenworks claims 54dB, per the specifications, which would be quiet for a robot mower, and says it can mow at night. RLLWoodworks and DIY (YouTube) calls it super quiet. Nobody independent has measured it yet.
What happens when it rains?
Greenworks rates it IPX6 against rain and sprinklers, per Greenworks, and says it returns to its dock by itself to charge. We haven't found an independent test of how it behaves in wet weather.

It needs open sky and Wi-Fi across the lawn, and finds obstacles by bumping into them.

A laser-guided mower for gardens with trees and buildings, praised for tidy lines and quiet running.
Setup can take tweaking, and the edges still need a strimmer.
