What we know
SmartHomeAssistent's test is still in progress. What we cite from it below comes from the parts already published and may change, and it doesn't count towards our two-review minimum yet.
Two tests, one finished: TechRadar lived with it for a couple of weeks, and SmartHomeAssistent has scored 18 of its 28 measured test points so far. Both found solid vacuuming on hard floors and good obstacle avoidance, and both liked the automatic rug detection. Mopping is where they part company. TechRadar called it as good as any it had seen, while SmartHomeAssistent rated it insufficient, with nothing removed along the edges. SmartHomeAssistent also found long hair wrapped round the brush and corners left dirty.

Testers can't agree on the mopping
TechRadar found the pads left an even, quick-drying layer of water on hardwood and marble, and it mopped up spilt milk, though it only came back for the rest much later. It called the mopping as good as any it had seen. SmartHomeAssistent has finished its mopping tests and rated them 5.7, its 'insufficient' band. Dried coffee, ketchup and muddy prints were only partly lifted, and chalk lines along the edge weren't touched. Fine for a daily freshen-up, then, but don't count on it for dried stains or edges.
Good vacuuming, weak corners
SmartHomeAssistent measured 98.69g of 100g of mixed debris picked up on laminate and 80.19g on short carpet, both on the strongest setting. Corners were poor: it got one of five corn kernels and none of the coffee grounds. TechRadar found it kept hard floors spotless day to day, but flour, sugar and cereal needed a second pass and some Cheerios got pushed around. Good for daily upkeep, but expect to do corners yourself.
Rugs handled for you
Both tests confirm a sensor underneath spots carpet and lifts the pads, so you don't have to draw every rug on the map. SmartHomeAssistent reports a 7mm lift, while Xiaomi quotes 10mm. TechRadar saw it avoid a rug it had been set to vacuum. SmartHomeAssistent hasn't finished its own rug test yet, so watch how it treats your thickest rug in the first week.
Dodges most things, not everything
SmartHomeAssistent's test saw it fail on a cat toy, a small piece of fake pet waste and a toy brick. TechRadar generally liked the object detection but reported it pushing a wheelchair down a step, without saying whether anyone was in it. Neither account suggests you can leave cables or pet mess on the floor, so clear them before a run.
Long hair wraps round the brush
SmartHomeAssistent used 30cm strands and found hair wrapped round the main brush, which had to be pulled off by hand. TechRadar found it resisted tangling better. It isn't clear the two used the same hair lengths or methods, so we can't say why they differ. If there's a lot of long hair in your home, check the brush often.
On the loud side
TechRadar found it louder than a lot of the robot vacuums it has used, reaching up to 64dB on its highest settings. The dock adds to that. SmartHomeAssistent describes the bin emptying after each clean as audibly loud, as the dock sucks the dirt out of the robot into its bag. If noise bothers you, run it while you're out.

Our take
Should you buy the Robot Vacuum X20 Pro?
Best for: Homes with mostly hard floors and a few rugs. Skip it if: Clean edges and stubborn stain removal are your priorities.
Consider the X20 Pro if you want automatic emptying and mop care for a mix of hard floors and thin rugs. TechRadar saw it skip a rug it had been told to vacuum, so check its coverage after setting it up. Edge cleaning, stubborn stains and long-hair tangling were weaker or less consistent points in the available tests.
The X20 Pro sits between the X20+ and X20 Max in Xiaomi's 2024 X20 family. Compared with the X20+, it adds a sensor underneath that spots rugs and lifts the mop pads, a little more suction, and hot-air drying for the pads in the dock. The dock also empties the bin into a bag and washes the pads, so day-to-day chores are mostly topping up and emptying water.
The compromises are in the details. The pads don't reach out to edges, the dock washes in cold water, and it's a bit loud on its top setting.
The X20+ and X20 Max are different robots with their own pages, so don't mix up their reviews with this one.

The questions people ask about this one
Can it leave the mops in the dock for carpet?
No, it lifts them instead. A sensor spots carpet and raises the pads, by 10mm according to the specifications and 7mm according to SmartHomeAssistent, from a test still in progress. Xiaomi recommends carpet avoidance for rugs thicker than 8mm or with fringes.
Will it avoid cables and pet mess?
Not every time. SmartHomeAssistent reported a failure around fake pet waste, and TechRadar found cables could still cause trouble. Pick those up before a run rather than hoping it steers round them.
How often do I have to empty or refill anything?
Rarely for dust: the 2.5-litre bag is rated for up to 75 days, per the specifications. The 4-litre clean tank and 3.8-litre dirty tank need regular attention, and TechRadar found the removable washing tray got dirty within a few weeks.
How big is the dock, and is it loud?
The dock is 34cm wide, 42cm deep and 56.3cm tall, per the specifications. TechRadar measured up to 64dB from the robot on its top setting, a bit louder than most, and SmartHomeAssistent, from a test still in progress, found the bin emptying audibly loud.
Does it fit under low furniture?
It's 9.7cm tall with a laser turret on top, per the specifications, so it needs about 10cm of clearance. In a test still in progress, SmartHomeAssistent saw it avoid some tight gaps rather than risk getting stuck, so a few spots may go uncleaned. Measure under your sofa first.
Alternatives
Other robot vacuums to compare.

Qrevo S
Why consider it: Strong on hard floors, with a dock that washes and dries the mops.
The compromise: It struggles with carpet hair and small objects, so it needs fairly clear floors.

Omni C20
Why consider it: A slimmer robot with dock automation that's reliably good at vacuuming hard floors.
The compromise: Testers disagree about its mopping, and it can't spot small objects, so tidy up first.

L10s Ultra Gen 2
Why consider it: One of the cheaper Dreames whose dock also washes and dries the mops, with good everyday cleaning.
The compromise: Long hair tangles, edges get missed and it won't reliably dodge pet mess.

Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X20+ vs Robot Vacuum X20 Pro
Our verdict: TechRadar tested both and scored the X20+ slightly higher. Pick the X20 Pro if your rugs move around, because it spots them and lifts the pads by itself and dries them with hot air; otherwise the X20+ does the same core jobs.
