What we know

Vacuum Wars bought the Q7 L5 and ran its measured tests on it alongside the Q7 M5. It found strong suction, efficient routes and long battery life, but the worst pressed-in pet hair result it had recorded, heavy hair tangling and very wet mopping. That test covered the robot alone, not the RockDock Plus dock it comes with here.

Vacuum Wars, lab test, Apr 2026 (tested on the Q7 L5 (without auto-empty dock))

Very weak with pet hair

In Vacuum Wars's test, where pet hair is pressed into carpet, the Q7 L5 removed only about 12%, below the previous lowest score it had ever recorded and far under the 81% average. It repeated the test several times with the same result. In a long-hair test, 56% of the hair wrapped round the brush, against a 21% average, despite the anti-tangle comb. If you have a shedding pet or long hair in the house, this is the robot's biggest problem.

Strong suction, long runs

Vacuum Wars measured sealed suction at about twice its category average, though airflow was below average. The robot removed 80% of sand worked into medium-pile carpet, slightly above average, and handled debris well on hard floors, though fine debris on carpet was harder. Routes were efficient, and battery tests suggest it could cover roughly 1,465 square feet on a charge, well above average. That's handy in a large, fairly clear home.

Mopping is wet and basic

The mop is a flat pad with three water levels, and it doesn't lift, so you have to take it off before vacuuming rugs, Vacuum Wars notes. It scored above average on dried stains but used more than three times the average amount of water, leaving floors overly wet and giving it the second-lowest overall mopping score the testers had recorded. Treat mopping as an occasional extra on sealed hard floors.

No help with clutter

There's no dedicated obstacle-avoidance sensor, only the laser on top, which Vacuum Wars says maps well and plans efficient routes. Roborock's own page says its Q10 series adds a structured-light module for better obstacle avoidance than the Q7 series, per Roborock. So get cables, socks and toys off the floor before every run, and don't trust it near pet accidents.

Our take

Should you buy the Q7 L5+?

Best for: Homes wanting regular vacuuming with a bin that empties itself. Skip it if: You have a pet that sheds heavily or lots of long hair.

consider it only for cheap mapped vacuuming with a self-emptying dock, in a home with little hair and clear floors. If you have a pet that sheds, the Roborock Q7 M5 handled hair far better in the same test.

The Q7 L5+ is the Q7 L5 robot bundled with the RockDock Plus, which sucks the bin into a bag so you empty it every few weeks rather than every run. It's one of Roborock's cheapest robots, beside the Q7 M5 and below the Q10 series. It maps with a spinning laser, vacuums with a combing brush meant to stop hair wrapping and drags a damp pad behind it. The pad doesn't lift over carpet, the dock doesn't wash it, and there's no obstacle sensor.

Before you buy

The questions people ask about this one

How often do I have to empty or refill anything?

Roborock claims the dock's bag lasts up to seven weeks, per the specifications, so the bin is mostly handled for you. The mop is different: you fill the robot's water tank and wash the pad yourself, and Vacuum Wars found it uses a lot of water.

Can it leave the mops in the dock for carpet?

No. The pad doesn't lift or detach automatically, so you have to remove it by hand before vacuuming rugs or carpet, as Vacuum Wars points out. Roborock says the pricier Q10 series lifts its mop on carpet, per the specifications.

Will it avoid cables and pet mess?

No. Vacuum Wars notes it has no dedicated obstacle avoidance, just laser mapping. Roborock's page says the Q10 series is the one with an extra obstacle sensor, per the specifications. Tidy the floor before each run and keep it away from pet accidents.

Is it any good with pet hair?

Not in testing. Vacuum Wars measured only about 12% of pressed-in pet hair removed, its worst result on record, and saw more than half of a long-hair sample tangle on the brush. The Q7 M5 managed around 78% in the same test.

Does it fit under low furniture?

It's 3.9in (about 9.9cm) tall, per the specifications, and Vacuum Wars measured the same. Most sofas and beds with a gap of 10cm or more will be fine; check anything lower before you buy.
