What we know

Can Buy or Not used a Samsung-supplied Bespoke Jet Bot Combo 70W for three weeks in Singapore, which matches this model's name and dock but doesn't give a model code. It liked the cleaning and the fresh mop pads, and disliked the dock's size and a bathroom step the robot couldn't climb back over.

Can Buy or Not, hands-on, 3 weeks at home (unit supplied by Samsung), Sept 2024 (tested on the Singapore Bespoke Jet Bot Combo 70W (no model code))

Fresh mops after daily use

Can Buy or Not ran it every day for three weeks and never noticed the musty smell other mopping robots had left. It checked the dock and found it clean and dry, where other docks it tested had left residue that grew mould. That backs up the point of the steam dock, which washes the pads with hot water and steam and dries them with 55°C air.

Quiet, with dust-free floors

Can Buy or Not found it quiet at normal power and said it kept the floors free of dust, whether it vacuumed and mopped at once or mopped after vacuuming. The app lets you choose suction and water levels, set schedules and no-go zones, and avoid carpets. It navigates with a laser sensor rather than a camera.

Big dock, awkward bathroom step

The dock was one of the biggest Can Buy or Not had tested, and its tanks were clunky to fill from empty, though that's needed only every couple of weeks. The robot got into a bathroom over a 22mm step but couldn't reliably climb back out, scratching itself trying, so a no-go zone was needed. Measure your transitions and the space for the dock first.

What's not checked yet

Can Buy or Not's three weeks with a Singapore unit is the only hands-on use we found, and it gave no model code, so it may not be exactly this version. Nobody has measured how much dirt it picks up, and three weeks is too short to say how the steam dock and mop pads hold up over months. The clean, dry dock is a good early sign.

Our take

Should you buy the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo Steam?

Best for: SmartThings households wanting hard floors mopped. Skip it if: You want a stronger record in independent tests before buying.

It's hard to recommend on what we know. If you want a Samsung with this steam dock, the Combo AI version has far more testing behind it. If you just want a dock that keeps mop pads fresh, the Roborock Qrevo S5V mopped and cleaned carpet very well in testing, and the Saros 10R is one of the best robots for dodging clutter.

The Jet Bot Combo Steam (model VR7MD96514G) is the plainer version of Samsung's Jet Bot Combo AI. It has the same kind of Clean Station Steam+ dock, which empties the bin into a bag, refills the robot, washes the two spinning mop pads with hot water and steam and dries them with 55°C air, but it goes without the AI object recognition that gives the pricier model its name. It navigates with a laser sensor and runs through Samsung's SmartThings app.

The trade-off is size. The dock is one of the biggest around, and the robot stands 10cm tall, so it won't reach under low sofas. In the one home test it also couldn't reliably climb back over a 22mm bathroom step.

Reviews of the Combo AI and AI+ don't apply here, because their camera-based avoidance is the main difference.

Before you buy

The questions people ask about this one

How big is the dock, and is it loud?

The dock is 444 x 547 x 510mm, per the specifications, and Can Buy or Not called it one of the biggest it had tested. The robot itself was quiet at normal power in the same test.

Can it cross rugs and raised thresholds between rooms?

Steps are a problem. Can Buy or Not found it could get into a bathroom over a 22mm step but got stuck trying to climb back out, so it had to set a no-go zone.

How often do I have to empty or refill anything?

Not often. Can Buy or Not reckoned on filling the 4-litre clean tank about once every two weeks and expected the 2.5-litre dust bag to last a few months, depending on how often it runs.

Does it fit under low furniture?

Only with more than 10cm of space. The robot measures 359 x 100 x 364mm, per the specifications, so it's taller than the slim, low robots now common from Roborock and Dreame.

Bespoke AI Jet Bot Combo AI Steam+

Why consider it: The same kind of steam dock plus AI object recognition, and four independent tests to judge it by.

The compromise: One long test found its recognition often wrong and its dock leaking, and it's no longer listed by Samsung UK.

Roborock · £369.99

Qrevo S5V

Why consider it: Tests found excellent mopping and carpet cleaning, with a dock that empties the bin and washes and dries the pads.

The compromise: Its obstacle avoidance is among the worst tested.

Saros 10R

Why consider it: Under 8cm tall and one of the best robots at dodging clutter.

The compromise: Pet hair buried in carpet is its weak spot.
