What reviewers found
CNET’s home trial found Astro personable and capable of moving around once set up, but questioned its practical value and encountered a difficult initial mapping process.
The part that won people over
The testers responded positively to Astro’s animated face, sounds and nonverbal behavior. It felt more companionable than a stationary voice assistant. That is a meaningful reason someone might enjoy it, but the same review questioned how much useful work its entertainment, communication and carrying features actually removed.

The test unit twice struggled to map part of CNET’s home. With Amazon’s assistance, the team changed aspects of the environment before obtaining a usable map; navigation then worked well. The reviewer could not isolate every suspected cause, so reflective floors, windows and an exposed staircase should not each be described as proven universal failure triggers.

The trial dates from 2022. It establishes an early home-use experience, not current service availability or unchanged software behavior. Its practical lesson is the gap between enjoyable personality and a compelling everyday task, alongside the importance of successful setup. Present subscription terms, regional access and support need separate current confirmation.
