Our take
Unitree G1
A genuinely important low-cost humanoid platform for research and development, but it is not a household robot. The real value is the hardware, SDK access and developer ecosystem.
Developers praise the price relative to other humanoids, usable SDK and active research community.
The programmable configurations cost much more than the headline base price, and buyers should expect a development platform rather than finished autonomy.

What owners and reviewers say
The G1 is most useful to people building robot capabilities themselves. Its compact humanoid hardware is the attraction; the configuration, programming access and integration work are the ownership decisions that matter more than a demonstration video.
The headline price does not describe every G1
Unitree distinguishes the base G1 from G1 EDU. Its specification table gives secondary development support to EDU, with additional joint, hand and computing options. A base-price offer therefore does not automatically include the equipment or access shown in a research demonstration. Start with the exact configuration and the work you intend to develop.
[1]What an actual buyer reported
In the developer discussion reviewed here, one buyer confirmed delivery and said the robot matched the quoted options. They also described a substantially more expensive configuration once development access, computing hardware, extra joints and dexterous hands were included. That is evidence of a real acquisition, not evidence that the G1 arrives able to carry out ordinary household chores.
[2]Budget for a project, not just a machine
The same discussion includes questions about hand-mounting hardware and delivery delays. These are individual reports rather than a representative reliability survey, but they show the kinds of practical details a development buyer needs to settle: precisely which parts ship together, which controller and computer are included, and who supports the complete configuration. We would request an itemised quote rather than extrapolate from another buyer’s historical price.
[2]Demonstrations are ahead of a finished home service
Unitree explicitly says some example functions are still being developed and tested. Its advertised battery duration and arm loads are also qualified by configuration and operating conditions. Those figures are useful for planning experiments, but they do not establish unattended task completion, dependable housekeeping or a normal day of work in your home.
[1]Who will get value from it
Our assessment is that the strongest case is a lab or experienced developer that wants to work on humanoid motion and manipulation. The official warning about powerful mechanisms and the need for separation from people reinforces that setting. The sources checked do not establish consumer-style running costs, repair frequency or a broad household ownership record.
[1]Base G1, EDU and optional hand/computer configurations differ materially. The buyer discussion contains historical prices, which are not current quotations.
