What reviewers found
Three home tests. HTmag, an Israeli tech site, tested this exact ROMO A. techreviewer and CGMagazine tested the ROMO P, which DJI builds around the same robot with a fancier dock. All three rate its obstacle avoidance among the best they've seen, and its cleaning as strong. The app splits them: HTmag found it confusing, techreviewer clearly laid out. HTmag and techreviewer both found thick carpet its weak spot.

About the best at dodging clutter
HTmag called it probably the most careful robot it had tested. It stopped millimetres short of furniture and spotted thin charging cables and slippers, so it could run weekly without a tidy first. techreviewer saw it reliably avoid cables, socks and shoes, and CGMagazine rated its avoidance the best it had tested, dodging a scatter of screwdrivers. Cables left on the floor still got caught in CGMagazine's office, and techreviewer found rug edges sometimes flagged as obstacles. Nobody tested pet mess.
Strong cleaning, weaker on deep pile
Hard floors suited it best in techreviewer's test, and short-pile carpet came up almost completely clean, though high pile less so. HTmag agreed: strong on ordinary carpet, not ideal on shaggy rugs. CGMagazine called the cleaning some of the best it had tested, with cereal, flour and small screws picked up in its office kitchen. Techreviewer says hair can hardly wrap round the twin rubber-fin rollers fitted as standard. Don't expect as much on deep rugs.
Good mopping, close to the edges
techreviewer found the floor evenly damp rather than wet, with the swing-out mop getting unusually close to skirting boards. HTmag tested on a rough, concrete-style tile that no robot it has tried cleans perfectly; dried marks took several passes but came off, and no stripes were left behind. CGMagazine kept an office kitchen clean for a month. The catch: techreviewer found the lifted mops still brushed high-pile carpet.
The app splits opinion
HTmag found the app controls everything but isn't intuitive. Settings were spread across several screens, it wasn't always clear whether changes had saved, and re-cleaning one small spot meant making a new zone. techreviewer found it clearly laid out, if roughly translated. Both describe a live camera view and remote driving, which worked well for HTmag. CGMagazine noted it lacked the smart-home links some rivals have, and techreviewer said DJI promised Alexa, Google, Siri and Matter support later.
HTmag tested the ROMO A. techreviewer and CGMagazine tested the ROMO P, so this page uses their findings only for what the two share. DJI's own comparison gives the S, A and P the same cameras, laser sensors, suction and on-board water tank. Only the P has the clear dock, floor deodoriser and UV light for the dust bag.
Our take
Should you buy the ROMO (S / A / P)?
Best for: Homes where socks, cables and toys are often left on the floor. Skip it if: You have thick rugs or tall door thresholds.
Worth it if you want a vacuum and mop that's careful around cables, socks and slippers, and you like the look enough to leave the dock on show. If you have deep rugs or raised doorway thresholds, it's the wrong robot, because the mops still brush thick pile. If you want a robot that can leave its mop in the dock for thick rugs, look at the Roborock Saros 10 instead.
DJI makes three versions of its first robot vacuum. The ROMO S is all white. The ROMO A pairs a transparent robot with a white dock and adds a second brush, with bristles as well as rubber fins. The ROMO P adds a clear dock, a floor deodoriser and a UV light for the dust bag. All three share the same core hardware, with two fisheye cameras and a solid-state laser sensor borrowed from its drones, so it can find its way round and spot small things on the floor. Two spinning mops swing out to reach edges.
The trade-offs are height and polish. It's 9.8cm tall, so it won't get under the lowest sofas, and it only climbs doorway thresholds of about 2cm without an optional ramp. The mops lift for carpet but can't be left in the dock. The dock is also wide and deep, so it wants a visible spot. DJI has since replaced these models with the ROMO 2.

The questions people ask about this one
Will it avoid cables and pet mess?
Cables, socks and slippers, mostly yes: HTmag and techreviewer both saw it spot thin leads reliably. Cables left on the floor still got caught in the rollers for CGMagazine. Nobody has tested it with pet mess, so keep an eye on it if your pet has accidents.
Does it fit under low furniture?
It's 9.8cm tall, according to both HTmag and techreviewer, about 2cm taller than the lowest rivals. In HTmag's home it got under a single armchair but not a wall-hung toilet. Measure the gap under your sofa before you buy.
Can it leave the mops in the dock for carpet?
No. It lifts the mops when it finds carpet, but techreviewer found they still brushed the fibres of high-pile rugs, and it can't park them in the dock the way some rivals can. Set deep rugs as no-mop zones.
Can it cross rugs and raised thresholds between rooms?
Short-pile rugs are fine, but techreviewer found it climbs only about 2cm on its own, or up to 4cm with DJI's optional ramp. Plenty of rivals now manage more without extras. It also sometimes treated rug edges as obstacles and slowed down near them.
How big is the dock?
HTmag measured it at 54.2cm tall, 41.5cm wide and 48cm deep including the ramp, and it's designed to be on show rather than hidden. It washes the mops in hot water and dries them, and the reviewer noticed no musty smell after heavy use.
How often do I have to empty or refill anything?
The 4-litre clean-water tank needed refilling a little more often than some rivals in HTmag's test, and the dirty tank needed emptying every three or four runs. techreviewer reported two details on the ROMO P that DJI's pages don't confirm for the A: sensors that tell you when a tank needs filling or emptying, and sealed cleaning-solution cartridges you can't refill.
