Four reviews cover this model: controlled tests from RTINGS and Vacuum Wars, plus home use from TechRadar and Tom's Guide. They liked the hard-floor cleaning and the dock. Carpet-hair pickup, dried stains and small-object avoidance were patchier. RTINGS got better hair pickup just by switching cleaning mode during its own test, but that doesn't explain why the four outlets got different results.

Mopping is the headline
TechRadar called it arguably the best robot mopping it had seen in a while, streak-free at low and mid water levels. Tom's Guide had ice cream, hot sauce and peanut butter cleared in a house with a child, five pets and a lot of mess, and RTINGS rated its stain removal exceptional. Vacuum Wars is the outlier: its dried-stain score came in below average. If stubborn marks are your main job, check them after the first few runs rather than assuming.
Pet hair depends on the mode
RTINGS found hair left behind on carpet in standard modes, and all of it gone once deep cleaning with multiple passes was switched on. Tom's Guide measured about 70% of pet hair collected from carpet, which it called low for the money. TechRadar saw its hair-covered bedroom carpet come up completely clean every time on Max, and Vacuum Wars recorded 97% in its embedded pet-hair test. Plan to run the stronger settings on carpet, and accept that they take longer.
Edges are good, corners less so
TechRadar rated its edge cleaning among the best it had tested, because the robot drives very close to walls and extends its side brush and roller. RTINGS still found small amounts of debris along edges and in corners, and saw it scatter some dirt as it worked. Vacuum Wars also found the side brush flicked debris around on hard floors. A deep-clean run that crosses the room twice helps pick up what gets scattered.
Obstacles: good, not perfect
TechRadar watched it dodge every item in its slipper, shoe, cable and sock course, though a dangling USB cable once got dragged in by the side brush. RTINGS rated it very good around household obstacles but said it can't reliably avoid pet waste, and it needs rescuing from tasselled rugs. Vacuum Wars scored it slightly below average. If your pet has accidents, only run it when you're home.
The dock does most chores
RTINGS rated the station's maintenance highly, and TechRadar found the roller still soft and nearly new after four weeks, with the clean-water tank refilled only every four or five sessions. Vacuum Wars noted the 220ml onboard bin is one of the smallest it has seen, which matters less when it empties after every run. There's no plumbing option, so you still fill and empty the tanks yourself.

Should you buy the DEEBOT X8 PRO OMNI?
Best for: Homes where washing hard floors is the main job. Skip it if: Pet hair embedded in carpet is your main cleaning problem.
Consider the X8 Pro Omni for mainly hard floors and frequent mopping, with a dock that handles much of the roller care. Carpet-hair results varied, although RTINGS measured an improvement in deep-clean mode. For a home with lots of carpet and shedding pets, compare the actual hair-pickup results before choosing an alternative; the Saros 10R also has reported weaknesses with embedded hair.
The X8 Pro Omni is the roller-mop robot from ECOVACS's X range. Instead of two spinning pads it drags a wet roller that's sprayed with clean water and scraped clean as it works, then washed in warm water and dried at the dock. The laser sits in the front bumper, so it's 9.8cm tall.

Will it avoid cables and pet mess?
Cables mostly, pet mess not reliably. TechRadar had one cable pulled in by the side brush in four weeks, and RTINGS says it doesn't always spot pet waste. Pick up loose leads and don't schedule runs while you're out if your pet has accidents.
Does it fit under low furniture?
The listed height is 9.8cm. TechRadar suggests at least a 10cm gap, but measure your furniture and allow for uneven floors or hanging fabric. Having no turret on top doesn't automatically make it lower than every robot that has one.
What happens to the wet roller on carpet?
The roller lifts by 10mm when it senses carpet, per the specifications. RTINGS says ECOVACS advises against carpets with fibres longer than 10mm, and dark high-pile carpet can confuse the drop sensors. TechRadar turned on the carpet-first setting so rugs were vacuumed before anything got wet.
How big is the dock, and is it loud?
The station is 35cm wide, 47.7cm deep and 53.3cm tall with its ramp, per the specifications. TechRadar found the robot louder than similar Narwal and Roborock models on higher suction, with rattly wheels on tiles, and the auto-empty announcements got tiresome. RTINGS still rated it quiet enough not to scare pets.
How often do I have to empty or refill anything?
The dock has 4-litre clean and dirty tanks and a 3-litre dust bag, per the specifications. In a small apartment, TechRadar refilled clean water roughly every four or five runs and expects bags and detergent to last a couple of months. Bigger homes and pets will shorten that.
Can I turn off the voice?
Only by muting it. TechRadar found the constant voice prompts annoying and couldn't switch them off, only turn the volume to zero, which also silences the alerts when the robot gets stuck. App notifications still tell you when it needs help.
