What we know
Sunseeker's Sunseeker announcement and Sunseeker Elite product page set out its commercial targets, navigation, slope ability and edge trimming. Coverage of its CES 2026 launch, such as Geeky Gadgets, repeats Sunseeker's feature list without trying the mower on real grounds. So the figures here are the maker's, and the useful thing is knowing what to ask a dealer: what your site needs for positioning, how loud it is, and how it copes with rain.
Built for grounds, not gardens
Sunseeker Elite shows the X9 on football pitches and municipal parks, and says it suits the rough and semi-rough of golf courses but not tees and fairways. Sunseeker calls it a move into commercial mowing, with a fleet platform so landscaping teams can run several units together. Geeky Gadgets also pitches it at estates, commercial properties and professional crews. If you're mowing a family lawn, this isn't the one to look at.
Positioning claims differ slightly
Sunseeker Elite says its navigation system means you don't need to install an aerial station, using 4G and a faster processor to stay accurate under trees. Sunseeker describes satellite positioning combined with camera-based mapping for centimetre-level accuracy. Both point to a wire-free setup, but ask a dealer exactly what your site needs, especially near buildings and heavy tree cover.
Slopes, edges and night mowing
Sunseeker claims 90% (42°) slopes thanks to all-wheel drive, suspension and rear-wheel steering, and says it can climb 5cm obstacles Sunseeker Elite. An EdgeZero trimming attachment, optional on the X9 and standard on the Plus, cuts right up to walls and fences. Infrared cameras are meant to spot animals in the dark Sunseeker.
What's unproven or missing
Nobody has tested the X9 yet, so the slopes, edging, animal detection and accuracy under trees are all Sunseeker's figures until a landscaper publishes a season's results. Sunseeker Elite doesn't list noise, weather rating or run time per charge, though Sunseeker says a full charge takes about 50 minutes on the X9 and 20 on the Plus. Noise and rain handling matter for a mower that may work near the public, so get those figures from a dealer before committing, along with the service terms.

Should you buy the X9 Series?
Best for: Landscapers and grounds teams managing large areas of grass. Skip it if: Your lawn is small enough for a simpler mower.
The X9 is for landscapers, councils, schools and estate managers with several acres of grass who can buy through a dealer and want to trial robot mowing at scale. It's overkill for a home garden. For a big private lawn, Sunseeker's X7 Gen 2 has two long tests behind it, and Mammotion's LUBA 3 AWD handles complex lawns and serious slopes. Husqvarna's Automower 450V NERA suits large properties up to about 7,500m².
The X9 Series is Sunseeker's biggest mower and its first aimed at professionals. There are two models: the X9, rated for 12,000m² over 48 hours, and the X9 Plus, rated for 24,000m². Both use all-wheel drive with suspension, two wide cutting discs, and eight cameras plus eight other sensors, including infrared for spotting animals at night. Sunseeker's pages also mention an edge-trimming attachment and a fleet website for running several mowers at once. It sits above the X7, Sunseeker's large-garden model.
This is groundskeeping kit, not a garden gadget. Sunseeker lists football pitches, municipal parks and the rough of golf courses, but not tees or fairways, and offers it through product enquiries and dealers rather than a shop page. It was unveiled at CES in January 2026 with US commercial availability planned for the second quarter of 2026. Sunseeker doesn't state its rain handling or noise, so ask a dealer.

Does it need a boundary wire?
No. Sunseeker says it maps the area automatically and uses satellite positioning with cameras, with no aerial station to install Sunseeker Elite. Its launch release describes the positioning as satellite corrections combined with camera mapping Sunseeker. Check with a dealer what your particular site needs.
Will it cope with my slope?
Sunseeker claims up to 90% (42°), with all-wheel drive, four-wheel suspension and wheel brushes to keep grip Sunseeker Elite. That's among the steepest claims we've seen for any robot mower, but no one has tried it on a real bank yet, so trial it on your steepest area first.
What happens when it rains?
Sunseeker doesn't say. The product page lists no weather rating or rain sensor Sunseeker Elite, and the launch release doesn't mention it either Sunseeker. Ask your dealer before you rely on it to mow unattended in wet weather.
Do I have to pay a subscription for 4G or anti-theft?
Sunseeker says the X9 has 4G built into its navigation system and offers a fleet-management website for professional users Sunseeker Elite. It doesn't publish any subscription terms, so ask the dealer whether mobile data or fleet features cost extra after the first period.
How close does it cut to the edge?
Right to the edge with the EdgeZero attachment, according to Sunseeker Sunseeker Elite. It's optional on the X9 and standard on the X9 Plus, and uses a side camera to follow walls and fences Sunseeker. Nobody has tested how much hand-trimming it leaves in practice.
