Updated

The short version

Omni E25Our pick

For homes with pets, cables and the odd sock on the floor. Its camera steers round clutter far better than the Omni C28 manages, it's one of the best robots tested for pet hair, and the dock adds detergent for you. You give up a little privacy, since there's a camera in the robot, and like the Omni C28 it can't leave its mop behind for deep rugs.

Omni C28

For tidy homes with mostly hard floors, and for anyone who doesn't want a camera in the house. It vacuums and mops almost exactly as well as the Omni E25. You give up the camera, so small things on the floor catch it out, and several testers found no automatic detergent.

What reviewers found

Omni E25

Pet hair is where it stands out: Vacuum Wars and TechGearLab both rate it among the best robots they've tested for fur, and Expert Reviews saw near-perfect pickup in its lab. TechRadar called the mopping some of the best it had seen once switched to the strongest mode, though TechGearLab couldn't lift a dried coffee stain at all. Obstacle avoidance is a consistent strength, with 21 of 24 objects avoided at Vacuum Wars. Edges split opinion: T3 thought them excellent, while TechRadar and Trusted Reviews found the roller leaves a strip along the wall.

Omni C28

Testers were surprised how well it cleans: Expert Reviews found it matched the Omni E25 on pickup, and Tom's Guide scored 90% or more in all but one test. Vacuum Wars put its mop in its top ten and measured far less water left behind than usual, while Trusted Reviews needed a few passes for tougher stains. Obstacles are where reviewers disagree: Expert Reviews saw it steer round cables under a desk, but Vacuum Wars recorded only 15 of 24 avoided and Trusted Reviews says it can't pick out wires or socks. T3 liked the streak-free finish but found the dock much louder than the Omni E25's.

Where they differ

  1. 01

The camera is the real decision

The Omni E25 has a front camera that recognises cables, shoes and pet mess; the Omni C28 feels its way round with lasers only. In the same test, Vacuum Wars recorded 15 of 24 obstacles avoided by the Omni C28 against 21 for the Omni E25. If your floors are usually clear, or you don't want a camera in the house, that gap matters much less.

Cleaning is closer than the suction suggests

On paper the Omni E25 has a third more suction. In practice Expert Reviews found the Omni C28 picked up almost exactly as much, with 98% of rice and dog hair collected. Pay for the Omni E25 for its camera, not for cleaner carpets.

Mopping: harder scrub against less water

The Omni E25 presses its roller down harder, and its dock adds detergent automatically. Expert Reviews, Tom's Guide and Trusted Reviews found no detergent slot on the Omni C28, so you add cleaner to the tank yourself. Even so, Vacuum Wars rated the Omni C28's mopping among the best it has tested.

A louder dock on the Omni C28

T3 found the Omni C28's dock much louder than the Omni E25's when emptying and washing, and Tom's Guide heard whirring and gurgling as water moved about. Neither dock is quiet when emptying: TechGearLab described the Omni E25's as a roar.

Questions people ask

Is the eufy Omni E25 worth paying more than the Omni C28 for?

For most homes, yes, as long as the gap stays small. Expert Reviews found the two clean almost identically, so the extra buys the camera, which avoided far more objects at Vacuum Wars, plus automatic detergent. If your floors are always clear, or the Omni C28 is much cheaper on the day, the Omni C28 does the same job.

Does the eufy Omni C28 have a camera?

No. It navigates with laser scanning and a front laser sensor, with no camera in the robot. That's why Trusted Reviews found it can't recognise small things like wires or socks, and why it suits anyone who doesn't want their home photographed.

Which has the better mop?

It depends what you care about. Both use the same kind of self-rinsing roller. The Omni E25 presses harder and adds detergent for you; TechRadar rated its mopping among the best it had seen. The Omni C28 leaves floors drier: Vacuum Wars measured a quarter of the usual water left behind and put it in its top ten.

Will either fit under my sofa?

Only with about 11cm or more of space. eufy lists both at around 11cm, but Expert Reviews measured 13cm for the Omni E25 and Expert Reviews 13.1cm for the Omni C28, because of the fixed laser tower. Measure your lowest gap first.

Can either leave the mop behind for thick rugs?

No. Both lift the roller about a centimetre over carpet but keep it on the robot. Trusted Reviews found longer-pile carpet could get damp, so set deep rugs as no-mop zones.
