Feedback

What reviewers found

Two German home tests, and they agree more than they differ. Beyond Pixels liked the hard-floor pickup and the dock, but found long hair caught in the brush, stubborn stains needed two or three passes, and it tried to swallow obstacles. SmarthomeAssistent measured strong short-pile carpet pickup and very efficient runs, but rated the mopping and obstacle avoidance poor, and it struggled on thick rugs. Both put the rough edges down to the cheaper sensors.

Beyond Pixels, hands-on, Apr 2026 · SmarthomeAssistent, lab test

  • Hard floors

    Reviewers rate it highly

Beyond Pixels found it excellent on laminate, especially with larger crumbs and hair, and SmarthomeAssistent rates hard floors, along with its fast, battery-thrifty runs, as where it convinces most.

  • Carpet and rugs

    Not enough evidence

Only SmarthomeAssistent tested carpet, measuring strong single-pass pickup on short pile but finding it barely made headway on high pile and skipped or mishandled thicker rugs.

  • Pet hair

    Mixed results

Beyond Pixels found pet hair no problem, though some long hair stayed in the brush. SmarthomeAssistent found hair caught on the robot on every floor type and says the L50s Pro Ultra's twin rollers do clearly better.

  • Mopping

    Mixed results

For light dirt only. Beyond Pixels found surface dirt came up reliably, but dried ketchup and coffee took two or three passes. SmarthomeAssistent found it mops each area once without stain detection, smearing dried marks, though the swing-out mop reached the wall.

  • Navigation and obstacles

    Reviewers found problems

It can't see small things. SmarthomeAssistent saw it drive into small cables, socks, Lego and a fake dog mess, spotting only big items, and Beyond Pixels had it stop at or try to swallow obstacles. Both blame the missing camera.

  • Dock and upkeep

    Not enough evidence

Only Beyond Pixels judged the dock in use, finding it empties the bin and washes and dries the mops with no help, though it has heard quieter stations while drying.

  • App and software

    Reviewers rate it highly

Beyond Pixels found the app clearly laid out and easy even for newcomers, and SmarthomeAssistent also rated the app well. There's no camera, so no live video or remote driving.

  • Noise

    Not enough evidence

Only Beyond Pixels commented on noise, noting it has tested quieter docks during mop drying.

  • Reliability and support

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use ran it long term or judged Dreame's support.

  • Value

    Reviewers rate it highly

For a mostly hard-floored home it's good value. SmarthomeAssistent rates its price-to-performance well, and Beyond Pixels calls it a solid robot for the money if you can live without smart navigation.

Verdicts come from independent, hands-on, finished reviews. An area needs at least two of them before we say more than “Not enough evidence”. We don't score robots ourselves. How this works

It can't see small things

SmarthomeAssistent found it reliably spotted big items like trainers, slippers, a dog bowl and thick cables. Small cables, socks, Lego, dolls and a fake dog mess were another matter, and it drove into them. Beyond Pixels saw the same pattern: it would stop at obstacles or try to suck them up, which meant more tangles and more clearing up. Beyond Pixels blames the lack of a camera, and SmarthomeAssistent the missing AI object recognition. Tidy the floor before every run, especially if you have a pet.

Good on hard floors and short rugs

Beyond Pixels found it excellent on laminate, especially with larger crumbs and hair. From short-pile carpet, SmarthomeAssistent measured 82.84% of its test dirt picked up in a single pass, and the swing-out side brush pulled all five corn kernels out of a corner. Thick carpet is another story: SmarthomeAssistent's robot barely made headway on high pile, and it avoided or mishandled several of the thicker rugs in the test room.

Mopping is for light dirt

Beyond Pixels found it removed surface dirt reliably, but dried ketchup and coffee often took two or three passes. SmarthomeAssistent was harsher. With no stain detection, it mops each area once and doesn't go back to wash its pads, so dried marks were smeared rather than lifted. The reviewer did praise the swing-out mop for reaching right to the wall. Think of it as a daily wipe, not a stain remover.

Hair still wraps the brush

Dreame's TriCut brush is meant to cut hair before it tangles. Beyond Pixels found pet hair no problem, but some long hair still stayed in the brush. SmarthomeAssistent found hair caught on the robot on laminate, short-pile and high-pile carpet, and said the L50s Pro Ultra's twin rollers did clearly better. It also found the onboard bin too small for its full test load.

Efficient, with a big, audible dock

SmarthomeAssistent timed 53 minutes for its 25-square-metre room using just 17% of the battery, which is unusually thrifty for a Dreame. Beyond Pixels gives the dock as 59cm tall, 45.7cm deep and 35cm wide, and said it had tested quieter stations when drying the mops. It also found the app clear. With no camera, you don't get live video or remote driving.

This page covers the L50 Ultra AE only. The L50 Ultra has different navigation and climbing hardware, and we don't count its reviews here.

Our take

Should you buy the L50 Ultra AE?

Best for: Homes with mostly hard floors that are kept clear of clutter. Skip it if: You have thick carpets or usually leave clutter on the floor.

The L50 Ultra AE suits mainly hard floors that you can clear before cleaning. The L50s Pro Ultra handled hair better in the cited comparison, but it still carries its mop pads and struggled to detect some thick carpet. The slimmer C20 also has weak small-object avoidance. Clear pet accidents yourself before running any of them.

The L50 Ultra AE is the budget branch of Dreame's L50 family, replacing the L40 Ultra AE. It keeps the big dock that empties the bin, washes the two spinning mops in very hot water, dries them and tops up water and detergent, and the side brush and one mop swing out into corners. To cut the price, Dreame dropped the front camera and light, leaving a single laser to spot obstacles. It's a different robot from the L50 Ultra.

Beyond Pixels found it excellent on laminate, especially with larger crumbs and hair, and SmarthomeAssistent measured strong single-pass pickup on short-pile carpet with unusually thrifty battery use. Thick rugs defeated it: SmarthomeAssistent's robot barely made headway on high pile. Both felt the missing camera. SmarthomeAssistent watched it drive into small cables, socks, Lego and a fake dog mess, and Beyond Pixels had it stop at or try to swallow obstacles. Mopping is light: Beyond Pixels needed two or three passes for dried ketchup and coffee, and SmarthomeAssistent found it smeared dried marks because it mops each area once with no stain detection. SmarthomeAssistent found hair caught on the robot on every floor type and says the L50s Pro Ultra's twin rollers do clearly better.

Before you buy

The questions people ask about this one

Will it avoid cables and pet mess?

No. SmarthomeAssistent found it missed small cables, socks, toys and a fake dog mess, though it saw shoes and thick cables. Beyond Pixels had it stop at obstacles or try to suck them up. Pick things up first, and don't leave it running alone with a pet that has accidents.

Does it fit under low furniture?

Fairly well for a robot with a laser turret. It's 97mm tall, per the specifications, and SmarthomeAssistent watched it slip under coffee-table struts 10cm off the floor. Measure your lowest gaps before you buy.

Can it cross rugs and raised thresholds between rooms?

Short rugs are fine, but SmarthomeAssistent found it struggled badly on high pile and skipped some thicker rugs. Beyond Pixels gives its climbing limit as 2cm, enough for most flat doorway thresholds but not tall ones. The mops lift 10.5mm on carpet, per the specifications.

How big is the dock, and is it loud?

Dreame's the specifications lists the dock at 34cm wide, 45.7cm deep and 59cm tall, and Beyond Pixels rounds the width to 35cm. Leave room above it to lift the tanks out. The reviewer found emptying brief, but drying is audible and can last several hours.

How often do I have to empty or refill anything?

The dock has a 3.2-litre dust bag, a 4.5-litre clean-water tank and a 4-litre dirty-water tank, per the specifications. Beyond Pixels reckoned the water lasts two or three full cleans. SmarthomeAssistent suggests letting the dock empty the small onboard bin after every run.

Does it work with voice assistants?

It's not clear. Dreame's UK spec table leaves voice control blank, per the specifications. Beyond Pixels says there's no Siri, Alexa or Google Assistant control, unlike its predecessor, though its own spec summary later lists all three. If voice control matters, check before buying.

Dreame L50s Pro Ultra
Dreame

L50s Pro Ultra

Why consider it: Testers found it cleans very well, and its twin rollers handled hair clearly better in a direct comparison.

The compromise: Its fixed tower and non-detaching mops limit it under low furniture and on thick carpet.

eufy Omni C20
eufy · £499

Omni C20

£100 more than the L50 Ultra AE

Why consider it: A slim, lower-priced robot with a dock that empties the bin and washes the pads, reliably good on hard floors.

The compromise: It can't see small obstacles either, and testers disagree about its mopping.

Roborock Qrevo S5V
Roborock · £369.99

Qrevo S5V

£29.01 less than the L50 Ultra AE

Why consider it: Tests found excellent mopping and carpet cleaning for the money.

The compromise: It has some of the worst obstacle avoidance around, so you still need a tidy floor.

Dreame L10s Ultra Gen 2
Dreame · £289

L10s Ultra Gen 2

£110 less than the L50 Ultra AE

Why consider it: A cheaper Dreame with a dock that empties the bin and washes and dries the mops.

The compromise: Long hair tangles, edges get missed and it won't reliably dodge pet mess.
