What we know

What we know comes from Ropet's own store and FAQ, CES 2025 coverage by KrASIA and TechRadar, and buyer comments on Ropet's shop. KrASIA describes how it behaves and how Ropet built it, while TechRadar included it in a round-up of CES robot pets. Between them they describe a warm, furry pet that reacts to touch and voice, slowly grows a personality and, Ropet says, runs without an internet connection.

A warm pet you stroke

KrASIA describes a round, fluffy robot kept at around 37°C, so it feels alive when you hold it. It shows its mood through symbols in its eyes and by moving its arms, and TechRadar notes it turns away or looks upset if it isn't cared for. Ropet says it needs feeding, cuddling and sleep, and grows gentler if treated kindly Ropet. Think of it as a pet to look after, not a gadget that does things for you.

Private by design, says Ropet

Ropet says camera and microphone data are processed on the robot and it works fully offline Ropet. KrASIA reports the same design, with each unit learning its own habits locally. The exception is an optional drawing feature, which Ropet says you must switch on and which sends encrypted photos to a cloud AI. The app also collects account and device details.

Short battery, fine plugged in

Ropet says a charge lasts 2.5 to 3.5 hours depending on how active it is, with about an hour for a fast charge Ropet. It's designed to stay plugged in while you use it. Check your bundle: the Basic package doesn't include the charging base. One buyer on Ropet's shop also found the translation collar's own battery ran out quickly, and extra collar batteries cost more.

Owner comments, and what's unchecked

Buyer comments on Ropet's store include a senior in a no-pets flat who says it makes home feel less empty, and a parent whose son likes its bedtime stories Ropet. They sit on the maker's own page, so Ropet chose which to show. KrASIA reported around 900 Kickstarter backers at CES 2025, mostly women. Nobody independent has yet checked Ropet's privacy claims, its battery life or how KAMOMO holds up after months of daily use.

Our take

Should you buy the KAMOMO?

Best for: People wanting something soft to hold and stroke. Skip it if: You want independent evidence before committing.

for someone who wants something warm to stroke and can't keep a real pet, but wait for reviews if you're unsure. Casio's Moflin is a soft robot pet with several long-term reviews behind it, and Sharp's Poketomo actually chats, if you speak Japanese.

KAMOMO is Ropet's first and only robot, a round plush creature with stubby arms and large animated eyes that sits on a desk or in your lap. It started on Kickstarter as simply Ropet. It keeps its body warm, reacts when you stroke it, gets hungry for toy food and slowly grows a personality depending on how you treat it. Ropet says everyday interaction runs on the robot itself, so the camera and microphone work without an internet connection.

It makes pet-like noises rather than talking, and an optional collar translates them. Ropet claims the battery lasts between two and a half and three and a half hours, though it can stay plugged in. The Basic bundle leaves out the charging base, and extra fur and accessories cost more. Ropet mentions no subscription. Early buyer comments on Ropet's shop say it makes a no-pets home feel less empty.

The questions people ask about this one

Does it need a subscription to keep working?

Ropet doesn't mention one Ropet. Extras cost money, though: the charging base is missing from the Basic bundle, fur and accessories are separate, and a buyer on Ropet's store says spare batteries for the translation collar add up. None of the sources here say which app features, if any, might become paid later.

Does it work offline?

Yes, according to Ropet. It says the camera and microphone are processed on the robot and it can work fully offline Ropet. Only the optional drawing feature uses the cloud. KrASIA describes the same on-device design. You'll still use the app for setup and customising its eyes.

What does it record, and where does that go?

It watches and listens to recognise you and your moods KrASIA. Ropet says images and audio stay on the robot, and the optional drawing feature encrypts photos before sending them to its cloud AI Ropet. The app collects your email, device details and IP address for your account and security. None of the sources here audited this.

How long does the battery last?

Ropet says 2.5 to 3.5 hours per charge, depending on its mood and activity, with about an hour for a fast charge Ropet. It can safely stay plugged in while in use, so most owners will keep it on its base. Buy a bundle that includes the base.

Is it suitable for young children?

Ropet doesn't give an age range Ropet. A parent on Ropet's store says their son loves it, and KrASIA reports most early backers were adult women. None of the sources here tested how it copes with rough handling, so supervise young children.
