Ecovacs vs Roborock

Roborock, for most homes: its robots vacuum more predictably, get under lower furniture and climb doorway thresholds better. Pick Ecovacs if mopping hard floors is the main job, because its roller-mop models are among the best mops reviewers have tested.

Which suits your home

Start with the thing that matters most to you.

  • Mopping hard floorsEcovacs

Ecovacs' roller mops won over nearly every tester: RTINGS rated the X8 Pro Omni's stain removal exceptional, and all four reviews of the X12 OmniCyclone praised its mop TechRadar.

  • Low sofas and bedsRoborock

Roborock's Saros models are under 8cm tall with no fixed turret, and TechRadar got the Saros 10R under a TV cabinet with a millimetre to spare. Ecovacs' slim option is the T50 PRO OMNI, which Homes & Gardens saw clean under a sofa.

  • Raised doorway thresholdsRoborock

Roborock's lifting chassis climbed a stack of books for TechRadar. home&smart found Ecovacs' X12S only gets over thresholds of about 2.4cm.

  • Big spills and crumbsRoborock

Every test of the Saros 20 rated its hard-floor pickup highly RTINGS, while the X12 OmniCyclone failed TechRadar's rice, oats and sugar test even on maximum settings.

  • Small budgetEither

Roborock's Q7 M5 vacuums far better than its price suggests T3. Ecovacs' N30 PRO OMNI adds mop washing for little money and held its own against robots costing twice as much Techtest.

The Q7 M5 is the best-tested cheap robot here, with strong pickup and pet hair in all three tests RTINGS, against the N20 PLUS, which vacuums well but split its two labs Les Numériques. Where the N30 PRO OMNI and Q10 X5 are the pair, the Ecovacs wins: it washes its own mops and tested well connect, while the Q10 X5 hasn't been tested itself.

The X12 models mop better Vacuum Wars CyberShack, but the X12 OmniCyclone's vacuuming split its testers, and T3 pointed to rivals such as Roborock's Saros 20 as better all-rounders for the money. The Saros 10 gets under lower furniture and coped with a cocker spaniel's hair for ten months TechRadar, though its mop needs the stronger settings.

What reviewers say about each range

Ecovacs

Reviewers keep coming back to the mop. Ecovacs' roller-mop robots, from the T80 Omni up to the X12 OmniCyclone, got high mopping marks from almost every tester Vacuum Wars BGR TechRadar. Vacuuming and navigation are less predictable: the X12 OmniCyclone was flawless in Vacuum Wars's lab but left rice behind at home for T3, and TechRadar's three months with the T90 Pro Omni brought repeated mapping, carpet and pet-hair problems. The cheaper models are strong value, with Vacuum Wars naming the N20 PLUS its best budget robot of late 2024.

Roborock

Roborock's range runs from the Q7 M5, which vacuumed and lifted pet hair far better than its price suggests in three tests RTINGS TechRadar T3, up to the Saros 20, which every tester rated highly on hard floors Expert Reviews. The flagships are low enough for most sofas, and the newer ones climb doorway thresholds well TechRadar. The app is a steady highlight, with T3 saying no other robot app comes close. Weak spots are the Saros 10's vibrating mop on dried stains Vacuum Wars and small clutter on the cheaper models RTINGS Deskmodder.

Where they differ

  1. 01

    Mopping: Ecovacs' roller mops lead

This is Ecovacs' clear win. RTINGS rated the X8 Pro Omni's stain removal exceptional, Vacuum Wars scored the X9 Pro Omni 158 out of 184 on dried stains, and How-To Geek called the T80 Omni's mopping first-rate. Roborock's spinning-pad Saros 20 also mops well Expert Reviews, but the Saros 10's vibrating pad was weak on dried stains in Vacuum Wars's test.

  2. 02

    Vacuuming: Roborock is more predictable

Ecovacs results swing from tester to tester. The X12 OmniCyclone was flawless in Vacuum Wars's lab but failed TechRadar's rice and oats test at home, and the X8 Pro Omni only cleared carpet hair in deep-clean mode for RTINGS. Roborock's results line up better: RTINGS found almost complete hard-floor pickup on the Saros 20, and even the cheap Q7 M5 lifted most pet hair from carpet in one pass RTINGS.

  3. 03

Height and thresholds: Roborock goes lower and climbs higher

Roborock's Saros 10 drops its turret to just under 8cm, and Trusted Reviews watched it clean under an awkward corner sofa and cross a threshold divider with ease. TechRadar saw the Qrevo Curv scale a stack of books. Ecovacs' X12S only manages thresholds of about 2.4cm, home&smart found. The T50 PRO OMNI is Ecovacs' slim pick, getting under sofas and tables for Homes & Gardens.

  4. 04

    Clutter: tidy up for either

Neither brand is clutter-proof below the top models. Gizmodo saw the X12 OmniCyclone run over pencils, Lego and cables, and the T80 Omni froze around table legs for Vacuum Wars. On the Roborock side, TechRadar watched the Q7 M5 plough into a cable, socks and a dog bowl. The best dodger here is Roborock's Saros 10R, which got a perfect score on Vacuum Wars's obstacle course.

  5. 05

    Docks: bagless Ecovacs, bagged Roborock

Ecovacs' OmniCyclone docks drop dust bags for a bin you empty. TechRadar emptied it twice in a month with pets and found it easy, but Gizmodo found the bin prone to clogs and debris left on the ramp. Roborock's docks use bags, and a busy pet home got through one every three weeks with the Saros 10R TechRadar.

Questions people ask

Is Roborock better than Ecovacs?

For most homes, yes. Reviewers found Roborock's robots more consistent at vacuuming, better under low furniture and over thresholds, and its app gets more praise T3. Ecovacs is the better choice if mopping hard floors is the job you most want done, since its roller mops scored highly with almost every tester RTINGS.

Which is better for mopping, Ecovacs or Roborock?

Ecovacs. Its roller-mop models, including the T80 Omni, X8 Pro Omni, X9 Pro Omni and X12 OmniCyclone, were rated highly for mopping in nearly every test Vacuum Wars BGR Vacuum Wars. Roborock's best mops are the spinning-pad Saros 10R and Saros 20 Vacuum Wars Expert Reviews.

Which is better for pet hair?

Both have good options, so pick by model. Roborock's Saros 10 cleared a cocker spaniel's hair for ten months TechRadar, and the cheap Q7 M5 lifted most hair from carpet in one pass RTINGS. Ecovacs' X12S kept its brush spotless after a week of long hair and pet hair home&smart, but the T90 Pro Omni left hair behind with two Border Collies TechRadar.

Which lasts longer, Ecovacs or Roborock?

There isn't enough long-term testing to call it. The longest reports are one per brand: an X9 Pro Omni that kept working for 14 months in a busy home with a shedding dog Vacuum Wars, and a Saros 10 run every other night for ten months with few rescues TechRadar. None of the reviews we use judged either brand's support.

Are Ecovacs robot vacuums reliable?

Mostly, but results vary more than with Roborock. TechRadar's three months with the T90 Pro Omni brought six mapping sessions and carpets mopped by mistake, and two testers had the T80 Omni freeze or wedge itself around furniture Vacuum Wars How-To Geek. Watch the first few runs and fix the map and carpet settings early.

Is Ecovacs' bagless dock better than Roborock's bags?

It saves buying bags, not effort. TechRadar found the X12's cyclone bin easy to empty, but T3 had to sweep up debris left on the ramp after every run, and CyberShack suggests emptying the X12S bin outdoors because dust escapes. Roborock's bags are tidier but need replacing, every three weeks in one busy pet home TechRadar.
