Saros 10 vs Saros 10R

Buy the Saros 10R if you can get it: it scrubs dried stains far better and dodges clutter more reliably. Pick the Saros 10 for carpet pet hair, or in the UK, where Roborock doesn't sell the 10R.

Updated

The short version

Saros 10

The one for carpet and a shedding pet. One tester ran it for ten months with a cocker spaniel and it kept on top of the hair. Its sensor turret sinks into the body to get under low furniture, and the mop stays in the dock for vacuum-only runs. What you give up: the single vibrating pad is weak on dried stains unless you turn the settings up, and it still caught a cable and a sock in one home.

Saros 10ROur pick

The better all-rounder, if it's sold where you live. It has no turret at all, so it's under 8cm tall everywhere, and its two spinning pads scrubbed dried stains far better than the Saros 10 in the same test. It also finished an obstacle course without a miss. What you give up: a lab found it needed several passes to lift hair buried in carpet, and Roborock's UK store doesn't list it.

What reviewers found

Saros 10

T3 and Trusted Reviews both gave it top marks, and T3 called it the most accurate obstacle dodger it had tested, though TechRadar watched it chew a cable and try to eat a sock. Its pickup impressed most testers: Trusted Reviews saw a flour spill on carpet almost vanish, and TechRadar found it cleared a cocker spaniel's hair for ten months without clogging. The mop is the weak spot, with Vacuum Wars scoring it below average on dried stains, while T3 still cleared a milk and soy sauce spill in one pass.

Saros 10R

All three tests rate its hard floors, mopping and obstacle avoidance highly. RTINGS found it left almost nothing along walls and in corners, and Vacuum Wars gave it the first perfect score on its obstacle course. Soy sauce, syrup and milk went in one pass for TechRadar. Carpet hair splits them: TechRadar, in a home full of dogs and cats, called it one of the best robots for pet hair, but RTINGS found the brush needed several passes to lift embedded hair. At home, a stack of books also beat it at a threshold test.

Where they differ

  1. 01

Mopping: the 10R scrubs far better

This is the biggest gap. In the same side-by-side, Vacuum Wars scored the 10R's spinning pads 103 on dried stains against 57 for the Saros 10's vibrating pad. TechRadar saw a dried ketchup mark barely touched on the Saros 10's Standard setting. The Saros 10 does leave floors drier, which is a good sign for wood, but check your floor maker's advice either way.

Obstacles: the 10R made no mistakes

Vacuum Wars recorded a perfect obstacle score for the 10R and 21 out of 24 for the Saros 10, which is still well above average. Home results for the Saros 10 vary more: T3 praised it, but TechRadar had it chew a cable. Neither is cable-proof, as USB leads and rug tassels caught the 10R in RTINGS's tests, so tidy up before a run.

  3. 03

Pet hair in carpet: the Saros 10 has more proof

TechRadar ran the Saros 10 every other night for ten months with a cocker spaniel and it pulled most of the hair from the carpets. The 10R's record is split: TechRadar was impressed, but RTINGS found its brush needed several passes for embedded hair. Vacuum Wars measured the two level on flattened hair, so the gap is smaller than the home reviews make it sound.

  4. 04

Under furniture: same height, different trick

Both are 7.98cm at their lowest. The 10R has no turret, so it's that height all the time, and it slid under TechRadar's TV cabinet with a millimetre to spare. The Saros 10 sinks its laser turret when it senses a low gap, which TechRadar says only matters for gaps between about 8.2cm and 11.4cm. Measure under your sofa first.

  5. 05

    Availability and value

Vacuum Wars picks the 10R over the Saros 10 at a similar price. The catch is where you live: Roborock's UK store doesn't list the 10R, so in the UK the Saros 10 is the one you can buy new. Vacuum Wars also found the Saros 10 navigated a little faster and covered more floor per charge.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between the Saros 10 and Saros 10R?

The mop and the sensors. The Saros 10 has a single vibrating pad and a laser turret that sinks into the body. The 10R has two spinning pads and no turret, with its sensors built into the body. Both are 7.98cm at their lowest, both claim 4cm over a threshold with two rises, and both can leave their mops in the dock.

Is the Saros 10R better than the Saros 10?

For most homes, yes. In Vacuum Wars' side-by-side it removed dried stains far better and finished the obstacle course without a miss. The Saros 10 is the safer bet for hair buried in carpet, where TechRadar has ten months of good results and RTINGS found the 10R needed several passes.

Which is better for pet hair?

The Saros 10, narrowly. TechRadar found it kept a cocker spaniel's hair under control for ten months. TechRadar rated the 10R one of the best for pet hair too, but RTINGS's lab found it struggled to lift hair embedded in carpet.

Can I buy the Saros 10R in the UK?

Not from Roborock's UK store, which doesn't list it. It's sold in the US and much of Europe. If you're in the UK, the Saros 10 is the one you can buy new, and the prices above show what's on offer where you are.

Can both cross raised doorway thresholds?

Roborock claims 4cm over a threshold with two rises for both, not a single 4cm step. Vacuum Wars saw both clear 20mm and 26mm thresholds. At home, Trusted Reviews watched the Saros 10 cross a threshold divider easily, while a stack of books beat the 10R for TechRadar.
