Tom’s Guide used the 505 in a home with a toddler and dog and praised pickup, corner cleaning and routine mopping. AfterDawn’s several-month test also found it effective against winter grit and ordinary household dust. Together these observations provide a more useful picture than the suction specification alone.

Tom’s Guide liked fast mapping and straightforward operation. AfterDawn found infrequent interruptions overall, though reflective chair legs, a light rug and an occasional shoelace caused trouble. This supports regular automated runs in a reasonably prepared home, without implying every small object will be avoided.

AfterDawn noted that the mop pads lift but cannot be left at the dock automatically, limiting suitability for plush carpets. It also found that generous mop-washing water use and relatively small tanks required frequent refilling and emptying. Dock automation changes the maintenance tasks rather than removing them.

Tom’s Guide encountered occasional bugs and an underwhelming spot-cleaning mode. AfterDawn found the evolving interface less intuitive than expected, with limited direct control over some settings. Both reviews also draw attention to dock noise. Locating the base away from a quiet work area makes the automated routine easier to live with.
