What we know

The AU Review tested ROLA Mini with two miniature dachshunds, on a unit Enabot supplied, and gave it 4.5 out of 5. It praised the easy setup, clear two-way audio and sturdy body, but the robot couldn't climb raised surfaces. The rest comes from Enabot's specifications. What nobody has reported on yet is how the battery wears and how reliable the app is over months.

The AU Review, hands-on, Mar 2025 (Unit supplied by Enabot)

Easy to set up and talk through

The AU Review found setup was just a matter of pointing the robot's camera at a QR code in the ROLA app, and it greeted the household with a cheerful "ROLA hi!". The reviewer called the sound from its microphone and speaker incredibly clear, with very few delays, so talking to your pet from work is practical. From the app you can take photos, record video and switch to night mode to see in the dark.

Raised surfaces stop it

The AU Review said driving it was fantastic, and you can rearrange the on-screen controls and change the speed. Its one real problem was that it couldn't fully climb raised surfaces, and it got stuck in front of them a few times. Enabot rates it for bumps of just 10mm and slopes up to 15 degrees the specifications. The dogs knocked it about and pushed their noses into the camera, and it carried on working normally.

Weeks of battery, but no dock

Enabot claims up to 25 days between charges and says the big battery replaces a charging dock, which ROLA Mini doesn't have the specifications. In The AU Review's test it ran for around three weeks before its first charge, though the reviewer didn't say how much it was driven. You recharge it with a magnetic cable, which takes three to four hours the specifications. It can't go and charge itself, so top it up before a long trip away.

Pets need time to adjust

The AU Review's miniature dachshunds were almost the same size as the robot and took a little while to get used to it. The app's preset skills help. They send it along straight lines, figures of eight and circles, or play sounds such as kittens meowing or ducks quacking to catch a pet's attention. The test was with dogs, though, so how a nervous cat will react is an open question.

Our take

Should you buy the ROLA Mini?

Best for: Pet owners wanting to drive a camera around one floor of the home. Skip it if: You want it to patrol and recharge without being steered.

buy it if you want a sturdy, simple way to drive a camera round one floor and see what your pet is up to, and you're happy steering it yourself. If you want it to patrol, dock itself or drop treats, the ROLA PetPal does all three.

ROLA Mini is the smallest and simplest of Enabot's pet robots, a chunky camera on two rubber-covered wheels that you steer round the house from the ROLA app. You can talk through it, take photos and video, play sounds to get your pet's attention and set it running in preset patterns. There's no dock, no patrol mode and no treat dispenser. Instead Enabot fitted a big battery it says lasts up to 25 days, recharged with a magnetic cable.

The AU Review tested it with two miniature dachshunds on a unit supplied by Enabot and gave it 4.5 out of 5. It saw the robot get stuck at raised surfaces, so it's built for flat floors. Everything else comes from Enabot's own pages.

The questions people ask about this one

Does it need a subscription to keep working?

Enabot doesn't list one. The robot comes with a 32GB SD card already fitted for photos and video, and takes cards up to 256GB the specifications. The AU Review used live view, two-way audio, recording and night mode in the app without mentioning any paid plan.

How long does the battery last?

Enabot claims up to 25 days between charges, with three to four hours to recharge through a magnetic cable the specifications. The AU Review's robot lasted around three weeks before its first charge. There's no dock and it can't charge itself, so if you'll be away for weeks, charge it fully before you go.

Can it drive around on its own?

No. Enabot says ROLA Mini has no patrol mode, so you steer it through the app the specifications. It can record when it detects motion wherever you leave it parked. The AU Review found the remote controls easy, with adjustable layout and speed, and used preset movement patterns to play with the dogs.

Will it suit a small dog?

It did in The AU Review's home, after a settling-in period. The reviewer's miniature dachshunds were wary at first of a robot almost their own size, then bumped into it and sniffed the camera without stopping it working. According to The AU Review, the removable rubber wheel covers protect floors and are easy to clean.

ROLA PetPal

Why consider it: It docks itself, adds treat and toy modules, and four reviewers liked its camera.

The compromise: A door track and a small step stranded one reviewer's, and the extras cost more.
