GOAT O1200 LiDAR PRO
3 independent reviewsRead the findings →A laser-guided ECOVACS mower with a built-in string trimmer for the edges. It suits fairly level lawns with long borders you're tired of trimming by hand. The trimmer is loud, and its reliability is in doubt.

What reviewers found
There are three home tests: Trusted Reviews on a UK test lawn, Netzwelt on a patchy German lawn, and commaik over more than two months on three separate lawns joined by paths. All three found setup easy, navigation good and the trimmer genuinely useful along straight, level edges, and all three found it loud. Automatic mapping split them: commaik needed no corrections, while Trusted Reviews and Netzwelt had to step in. commaik, the longest test, also had the trimmer fail after about two months.

Cut quality and edges
Reviewers rate it highlyTrusted Reviews found the side trimmer largely did away with hand trimming, and commaik had it cut under a hedge and mow in even lanes. Netzwelt saw clean edges on level ground, but bumps knocked the trimmer off line. Tight inside corners still need a strimmer.
Setup and boundaries
Reviewers rate it highlyAll three found setup easy. Automatic mapping needed no corrections on commaik's tidy lawns, but missed parts of the border for Trusted Reviews, and Netzwelt switched to driving the edge by hand on a patchy lawn.
Navigation
Reviewers rate it highlycommaik ran it across three lawns joined by paths in orderly lanes, and Trusted Reviews and Netzwelt also found it navigated well. The trimmer adds width, so Netzwelt says it needs an 80cm gap between lawns.
Slopes and rough ground
Mixed resultsIt copes with ordinary bumps and gentle slopes, as commaik found, but Netzwelt calls it no great climber, and Trusted Reviews suggests an all-wheel-drive mower for bumpy or rough ground.
Obstacles and safety
Mixed resultsTrusted Reviews found it excellent at spotting people and balls, and commaik saw it avoid a toy hedgehog and a hose. Netzwelt found very flat objects harder, with a frisbee only picked up on the most sensitive setting.
Weather
Not enough evidenceOnly commaik saw it in the rain: the sensor sent it home, and it resumed after a drying pause. No other review we use tested wet conditions.
App and software
Reviewers rate it highlycommaik found the app clear and well organised, with zones, routes, schedules and cutting height easy to adjust. Trusted Reviews found mapping in the app easy and welcomed cutting height set from the phone.
Upkeep
Not enough evidenceOnly commaik covered upkeep in depth: the blades, the trimmer line and brush all wear, and the sensors need regular wiping. No other review we use looked at it closely.
Reliability and support
Not enough evidenceOnly commaik ran it long-term, and its trimmer drive failed after about two months; the first warranty repair didn't fix it. One unit isn't a pattern, and no other review we use ran as long.
Value
Not enough evidenceOnly Trusted Reviews clearly judged value, calling it great value for a simple garden. No other review we use weighed up the price.
Verdicts come from independent, hands-on, finished reviews. An area needs at least two of them before we say more than “Not enough evidence”. We don't score robots ourselves. How this works
The trimmer does real work
Trusted Reviews found it largely removed the need to tidy up with a hand trimmer. commaik had it cut grass under a hedge that previously needed doing by hand, with straight edges trimmed precisely. Netzwelt saw clean cutting along high edges on level ground, but bumps and dips knocked the trimmer off line. It has limits: commaik still had a patch of about 20cm radius left in tight inside corners, and the line marked composite edging boards. Keep it away from soft or painted edging.
Quiet mower, loud trimmer
ECOVACS rates the mower at 61dBA and the trimmer at 81dBA. All three testers noticed the jump: Trusted Reviews compares it to a normal hand trimmer, and commaik says not to schedule trimming at night or during quiet hours. The trimmer also stops whenever it senses someone nearby, while the blades keep going, so Trusted Reviews suggests leaving it to trim when nobody's in the garden.
Automatic mapping suits tidy lawns
commaik let it map three lawns by itself, and it picked out the boundary against a hedge and a mulched bed without any corrections. Netzwelt's patchy lawn confused the automatic mode, but switching to manual driving mid-map sorted it. Trusted Reviews found the automatic map missed parts of the border and a corner by the water butt. If your lawn edges aren't clear-cut, plan to drive the boundary yourself and check the first full cut.
Flat obstacles and narrow gaps
Trusted Reviews found the camera excellent at spotting people and balls, and commaik saw it avoid a toy hedgehog, a hose and garden furniture while happily mowing over flat sprinkler covers. Netzwelt found very flat objects harder: a frisbee was only picked up reliably on the most sensitive setting, which also makes it treat long grass as an obstacle. The trimmer adds width, so Netzwelt says it needs an 80cm gap to get between lawns.
A question mark over the trimmer
On commaik's unit, the trimmer's drive stopped working after about two months, and the first repair under warranty didn't fix it. That's one unit, and commaik is clear it says nothing about failure rates. Neither Trusted Reviews nor Netzwelt tested for as long. If the trimmer is the reason you're buying, check how warranty repairs and spare parts work where you live.
Covers the O1200 LiDAR PRO with the TruEdge trimmer. The O600 and O800 use satellite positioning and have no trimmer.
Our take
Should you buy the GOAT O1200 LiDAR PRO?
Best for: Fairly flat lawns where trimming the borders is the main chore. Skip it if: Your lawn is steep, soft or full of bumps.
Consider it for a fairly level lawn with long borders where the side trimmer could save work. Allow for its noise, awkward corners and one reviewer's trimmer failure. If your lawn is rough or sloping, compare tested traction from an all-wheel-drive mower. The 305E NERA is another edge-cutting option, but its positioning requirements and results need checking against your garden.
The O1200 LiDAR PRO maps with laser scanners and a camera, so it does not need a satellite signal. It still needs a garden layout its sensors can follow. A side string trimmer reaches borders the main blades miss. Its rear-wheel drive and the trimmer's extra width make slopes, uneven ground and narrow passages worth checking before buying.
Trusted Reviews found the trimmer largely did away with hand trimming, and commaik had it cut under a hedge that used to need doing by hand. Netzwelt saw clean edges on level ground, but bumps knocked the trimmer off line, and tight inside corners still need a strimmer. All three found setup easy and navigation good. Automatic mapping needed no corrections for commaik, but Trusted Reviews found it missed parts of the border and Netzwelt switched to driving the edge by hand. All three found the trimmer loud, and it stops whenever someone comes near. The real worry is commaik's unit. Its trimmer drive failed after about two months, and the first warranty repair didn't fix it. That's one unit, but nobody else tested for as long. Netzwelt says the trimmer's extra width means it needs an 80cm gap between lawns.

The questions people ask about this one
Does it need a clear view of the sky?
No. It navigates with two laser scanners and a camera, with no aerial or wire, per the specifications. commaik points out that it steers by the hedges, walls and trees around it, so very open lawns with few landmarks suit satellite mowers better.
How close does it cut to the edge?
Closer than most robots, thanks to the side trimmer. Trusted Reviews and commaik both needed a hand trimmer far less often. It still leaves tight inside corners, a patch of about 20cm radius for commaik, and Netzwelt found bumps pushed the trimmer off the edge.
Will it cope with my slope?
Moderate slopes. ECOVACS rates it for 45% (24°), per the specifications, and Netzwelt calls it no great climber. It's driven by its two rear wheels, and Trusted Reviews suggests an all-wheel-drive mower for bumpier lawns or rough ground.
How noisy is it for neighbours?
The mowing is quiet, but the trimming isn't. ECOVACS lists 61dBA for the mower and 81dBA with the trimmer running, per the specifications. commaik recommends keeping trimming out of evenings and quiet hours, and Trusted Reviews compares it to a hand trimmer.
Can it handle two lawns or a narrow passage?
commaik connected three lawns using routes recorded by driving the mower between them. ECOVACS and Netzwelt give 0.8m as the minimum passage width, so an 80cm gap leaves nothing to spare. Check turns, gates, gradients and the full installation requirements too. Lawns with no suitable connecting route may mean carrying the mower between them.
What happens when it rains?
It goes home. The mower and dock are rated IPX6, per the specifications, and commaik found the rain sensor sent it back to the dock, then resumed where it stopped after a set drying pause.
Alternatives

Automower 305E NERA
£484.17 more than the GOAT O1200 LiDAR PRO
Why consider it: Two reviews agree it cuts neatly and its EdgeCut feature trims edges well.
The compromise: It relies on satellites, and a tester beside tall trees found it far less convenient.

LUBA mini 2 AWD 1000
£459 more than the GOAT O1200 LiDAR PRO
Why consider it: All-wheel drive and a side edge disc that reviewers found cut grass other mowers leave behind.
The compromise: Raised borders still need a strimmer, and a tester hit app limits on how far apart zones can be.

GOAT O800
£265 less than the GOAT O1200 LiDAR PRO
Why consider it: The same 22cm deck and app for smaller lawns, and one owner had quiet mowing across two lawns.
The compromise: It needs a satellite aerial placed carefully, and longer grass caused headaches.

YUKA mini 2 1000
£59 more than the GOAT O1200 LiDAR PRO
Why consider it: Laser guidance too, and it squeezes through 55cm gaps where this needs 80cm.
The compromise: No trimmer or edge disc, so one tester measured 10 to 15cm left along raised edges.
