YUKA mini 2 1000
3 independent reviewsRead the findings →Mammotion's cheaper small-lawn mower, guided by laser rather than satellites. It's steady under trees and through narrow gaps on fairly flat lawns. It struggles on steep slopes, and raised borders can need trimming.

What reviewers found
There are three home tests. EasyLawnMowing used a UK garden with two zones joined by a path and a stone crossing, What Gadget a neighbour's lawn behind high fences, and Smart Home Fox a German plot with an obstacle course and a steep test slope. All three found the navigation steady without any satellite help and the obstacle avoidance strong. Edges split them: EasyLawnMowing and WhatGadget had little trimming left, while SmartHomeFox measured a 10 to 15cm strip along edges the mower couldn't drive onto. Only SmartHomeFox tested a slope, and it struggled.

Cut quality and edges
Mixed resultsAll three got a clean cut. Edges depend on the border: EasyLawnMowing and What Gadget found it cut very close to stone edges, while Smart Home Fox measured 10 to 15cm left along edges it couldn't drive onto.
Setup and boundaries
Reviewers rate it highlySmart Home Fox had two zones mapped and mowing within 15 minutes, and What Gadget found the app guided setup well. You can't edit the map afterwards, and EasyLawnMowing had to drive extra zones by hand.
Navigation
Reviewers rate it highlySteady without satellites: EasyLawnMowing saw it follow its path almost exactly and cross a stone bridge, Smart Home Fox saw it pass narrow gaps between trees, and What Gadget got straight lines behind high fences.
Slopes and rough ground
Not enough evidenceOnly Smart Home Fox tested a slope, and on a test slope steeper than the maker's rating it struggled and slid at times; it suggests moderate slopes only. No other review we use tested hills.
Obstacles and safety
Reviewers rate it highlyEasyLawnMowing saw it avoid a football and a glove, then return for the strip it skipped, and the toy hedgehog, cactus and hose at Smart Home Fox all survived. Smart Home Fox found the most sensitive mode sometimes skips grass.
Weather
Not enough evidenceNone of the reviews we use tested it in rain. What Gadget notes the rain sensor sends it home and advises against mowing wet grass.
App and software
Reviewers rate it highlyWhat Gadget found the app intuitive, with settings easier to find than on many mowers, and Smart Home Fox rated its control highly. The catches: height is set on the mower, and Smart Home Fox couldn't edit the map later.
Upkeep
Not enough evidenceNone of the reviews we use has reported on cleaning or blade changes in use yet.
Reliability and support
Not enough evidenceNone of the reviews we use has run it long-term or judged Mammotion's support.
Value
Reviewers rate it highlyWhat Gadget rated its value for money highly, and Smart Home Fox calls it one of the strongest options at its price for gardens with trees, shade or awkward layouts.
Verdicts come from independent, hands-on, finished reviews. An area needs at least two of them before we say more than “Not enough evidence”. We don't score robots ourselves. How this works
Steady navigation without satellites
This is what you're paying for. EasyLawnMowing watched it return down a path almost exactly along the mapped line and cross a stone bridge without hesitating, where other mowers had snaked. Smart Home Fox found navigation reliable throughout. It passed a 70cm gap and narrower gaps between trees, and even parked in a mock garage under 40cm high. What Gadget was sent this version because of high fences and found it cut straight lines there. If trees or buildings upset satellite mowers in your garden, this is the reason to choose it.
Edges depend on what's there
EasyLawnMowing found it cut very close to a stone boundary with minimal trimming afterwards, and What Gadget was similarly impressed. Smart Home Fox measured something different: 10 to 15cm left uncut along edges it couldn't drive onto, with more space left where the kerb sits higher than the lawn. There's no side edge disc or trimmer, so it comes down to whether the mower can run right up to or over your edges. Walls and raised beds mean strimming.
Moderate slopes only
Mammotion rates it for 45%. Smart Home Fox ran it on a test slope of 52%, and it got the job done but clearly struggled, occasionally sliding before getting back on its line. The front castors have no tread, and only the rear wheels drive. SmartHomeFox suggests it for slopes up to about 35% and an all-wheel-drive mower beyond that. Neither EasyLawnMowing nor What Gadget tested a slope.
Strong avoidance, but watch sensitive mode
EasyLawnMowing saw it slow for a football and avoid it, spot a glove off to one side, and come back to cut the missed strip later. A small ball dropped in late got a light bump. On the most sensitive setting, Smart Home Fox put a toy hedgehog, a cactus and a hose in its way, and everything survived. SmartHomeFox found that mode sometimes skips areas it should mow, though, so standard mode suits everyday use.
Setup is quick; editing is limited
Smart Home Fox had two zones mapped and mowing within 15 minutes, but found the map couldn't be edited afterwards. EasyLawnMowing saw no automatic mapping option for a second zone, so extra areas and the paths between them had to be driven by hand. All three note that cutting height is set by hand on the mower, not in the app. SmartHomeFox measured 55 to 60dB, quieter than the wind on its test site.

Our take
Should you buy the YUKA mini 2 1000?
Best for: Lawns shaded by trees or surrounded by tall buildings. Skip it if: Your lawn is steep, soft or full of bumps.
The YUKA mini 2 1000 is worth considering for a fairly flat lawn where satellite reception is poor. Tests liked its laser navigation; the only slope trial exceeded the rated limit, so climbing confidence is limited. Raised edges still need trimming, and one tester could not edit the map after setup. The LUBA mini 2 adds driven front wheels and an edge disc, but keeps its own navigation and app limitations.
The YUKA mini 2 1000 is Mammotion's cheaper small-lawn mower, below the all-wheel-drive LUBA mini 2. It maps and steers with a spinning laser scanner on its roof and two cameras rather than satellites, so it does not rely on an open satellite view; the scanner and cameras still need usable surroundings and there is no aerial or wire. It drives only the rear wheels, has no side edge disc, and the cutting height is set by hand on the mower.
All three testers found it steady without satellites. EasyLawnMowing watched it follow its mapped path almost exactly and cross a stone bridge where other mowers had snaked, Smart Home Fox saw it pass narrow gaps between trees, and What Gadget got straight lines behind high fences. Edges depend on your borders: EasyLawnMowing and What Gadget found it cut very close to stone edges, but Smart Home Fox measured a strip of more than 10cm left along edges it could not drive onto. Only Smart Home Fox tried a slope, steeper than Mammotion's rating, and the mower struggled and slid at times. Smart Home Fox also found the map cannot be edited once made, and mobile data is optional; without it, connected controls need Wi-Fi coverage, rather than satellite corrections.

The questions people ask about this one
Does it need a clear view of the sky?
No. It navigates with a laser scanner and cameras rather than satellites, per the specifications, so it doesn't need an open view of the sky, though trees and fences can still affect what its sensors see. EasyLawnMowing and Smart Home Fox both found its navigation steady, including through gaps between trees by a fence. It does need Wi-Fi in the garden for setup and updates.
Will it cope with my slope?
Only moderate ones. Mammotion rates it for 45% (24°), per the specifications. On a 52% test slope Smart Home Fox saw it slip at times and fight its way up, and suggests keeping to about 35%. For steeper ground, look at the all-wheel-drive LUBA mini 2.
How close does it cut to the edge?
It depends on your edges. EasyLawnMowing had minimal trimming along a stone boundary, but Smart Home Fox measured 10 to 15cm left along edges the mower couldn't drive onto. With no edge disc or trimmer, expect to use a strimmer along walls, fences and raised beds.
Do I have to pay for 4G?
Only if you add it. The 1000 has no 4G as standard, according to EasyLawnMowing, because it doesn't need satellite corrections. Smart Home Fox says an optional module adds 4G with three years of data included. Without it you need Wi-Fi reaching the lawn, or a phone hotspot during setup.
Can it handle two lawns or a narrow passage?
Yes. It stores up to ten zones and is rated for 55cm gaps, per the specifications. Smart Home Fox saw it pass through gaps under 70cm between trees. EasyLawnMowing had to map the second zone and the path to it by hand, as there was no automatic option for extra areas.
Will the neighbours hear it?
Not much. Mammotion rates it at 57dB, per the specifications, and Smart Home Fox measured 55 to 60dB, less than the wind on its test site. That's one site's measurement, so it can't promise your neighbours won't notice it.
Alternatives
Other robot lawn mowers to compare.

LUBA mini 2 AWD 1000
£400 more than the YUKA mini 2 1000
Why consider it: All-wheel drive and a side edge disc that reviewers found cut grass other mowers leave behind.
The compromise: It relies on satellite corrections, and a tester hit app limits on how far apart zones can be.

GOAT O1200 LiDAR PRO
£59 less than the YUKA mini 2 1000
Why consider it: Also laser-guided with no aerial, and a built-in string trimmer tidies the edges.
The compromise: The trimmer is loud, and it needs wider gaps between lawns when the trimmer is fitted.

i220 LiDAR Pro
£955 more than the YUKA mini 2 1000
Why consider it: Adds satellite positioning to laser and camera guidance, for lawns up to 2,000m² with trees.
The compromise: Owner reports so far only cover early mowing, so it's too soon to judge reliability.

Head to head
Mammotion LUBA mini 2 AWD 1000 vs YUKA mini 2 1000
Our verdict: Choose the YUKA mini 2 1000 for a flatter lawn under trees or tall fences, where laser guidance is steadier and the price is lower. Choose the LUBA mini 2 AWD 1000 if your lawn slopes or has flat edges you're tired of strimming: it has all-wheel drive and a side edge disc.
