What reviewers found

Trusted Reviews and EasyLawnMowing tested the 800 version. Maison et Domotique used a 700 on an 800m² garden, which is more than that model is rated for. All three liked the cut, but soft ground caused slipping or turf damage. Check the capacity of the version you're buying, and don't assume the big-garden result carries over to a different model.

  • Cut quality and edges

    Reviewers rate it highly

All three got a clean cut in straight lines: Trusted Reviews saw no tufts left, and Maison et Domotique found it even with no random overlap. Expect to strim the edges, where Maison et Domotique measured a 10 to 12cm strip.

  • Setup and boundaries

    Reviewers rate it highly

EasyLawnMowing assembled it in 10 to 15 minutes and Maison et Domotique went from box to first cut in about an hour. Trusted Reviews found automatic mapping suited simple lawns but steered complex ones by hand.

  • Navigation

    Reviewers rate it highly

Trusted Reviews never saw it get lost in the bushes, Maison et Domotique ran three zones through a narrow corridor, and EasyLawnMowing watched it drive a path and ramp to the front lawn and back.

  • Slopes and rough ground

    Mixed results

Dry ground is fine: Maison et Domotique saw it climb a gentle slope behind a hedge without fuss. Soft ground isn't, as Trusted Reviews found its tyres tore the turf on a sloping garden and Maison et Domotique had it stall twice on a sodden patch.

  • Obstacles and safety

    Reviewers rate it highly

Maison et Domotique saw it stop for toys, round flower pots and never get caught out by the cat or footballs, and Trusted Reviews found it drove round obstacles without breaking its pattern. Very low, flat things like stepping stones can fool it.

  • Weather

    Not enough evidence

Only Maison et Domotique saw it in rain: it stopped one rainy morning and resumed once it eased. No other review we use tested wet weather.

  • App and software

    Reviewers rate it highly

Trusted Reviews found the app flexible, with schedules, patterns and a live camera view, and Maison et Domotique found it well thought out, with separate schedules per zone. Cutting height is set with a dial on the mower.

  • Upkeep

    Not enough evidence

Only Maison et Domotique reported on upkeep, finding a quick brush every ten days enough in season. No other review we use covered cleaning or blades.

  • Reliability and support

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use has run it long-term or judged Mammotion's support.

  • Value

    Not enough evidence

Only Trusted Reviews judged value, calling it good value as long as your garden is reasonably flat. No other review we use weighed the price.

Verdicts come from independent, hands-on, finished reviews. An area needs at least two of them before we say more than “Not enough evidence”. We don't score robots ourselves. How this works

A tidy cut in straight lines

Trusted Reviews got a neat zigzag with no tufts left behind, and it never got lost in the bushes. Maison et Domotique found the cut clean and even, with no random overlapping, and at 40mm the lawn looked like a football pitch. In its quick mode it finished 800m² in under three hours, recharging included. EasyLawnMowing set it low, at 25mm, and it still cut well in dead-straight lines before a lap of the edge.

Grip is the weak spot

This is the trade-off for two-wheel drive. Trusted Reviews tested it in a Devon garden with steep slopes and found it struggled on softer lawn, with its spiky tyres tearing the grass, especially when climbing onto borders. Maison et Domotique had it climb a 30% slope and cope with gentle bumps, but after a stormy morning it stalled twice on a spongy patch and went back to its dock. If your lawn stays soft, look at an all-wheel-drive model.

Good at spotting obstacles

There's no bumper, so it relies on its cameras. Maison et Domotique saw it stop for stray toys, go round flower pots, thread between tree trunks and garden furniture, and never get caught out by the cat or footballs. Very low, flat things like stepping stones were its blind spot, and it sometimes climbed onto them before backing off. Trusted Reviews found it simply drove round obstacles without breaking its mowing pattern, though a protruding tree root did stop it once or twice.

Setup is quick, mapping varies

EasyLawnMowing had it assembled in 10 to 15 minutes, and Maison et Domotique went from box to first cut in about an hour. The dock needs a flat spot with two metres clear to each side and five in front, per Maison et Domotique. Where there's an aerial, it needs open sky, which Trusted Reviews notes is tricky under trees. Automatic mapping suited simple lawn shapes for Trusted Reviews, but it steered round more complex ones by hand.

Edges, height and noise

Expect to strim the edges, as Maison et Domotique measured a 10 to 12cm strip it couldn't reach. Cutting height is set with a dial on the mower, from 20 to 60mm, so you can't give zones different heights automatically, Trusted Reviews points out. It's quiet, though. Maison et Domotique measured 58dB a metre away and found it easy to forget during the day.

Trusted Reviews and EasyLawnMowing tested the YUKA mini 800; Maison et Domotique tested the 700. Later units navigate using network corrections instead of a separate aerial.

Our take

Should you buy the YUKA mini (500, 600, 700, 800)?

Best for: Small, fairly flat lawns with a clear view of the sky. Skip it if: Your lawn is steep, soft or full of bumps.

A discounted YUKA mini is worth considering for a small, fairly level lawn that stays firm. The reviews found slipping and turf damage on softer ground. If traction is a concern, compare tests of all-wheel-drive alternatives on similar grass. Even an all-wheel-drive mower should stay off waterlogged ground.

The YUKA mini is the entry to Mammotion's range, the two-wheel-drive counterpart to the LUBA mini AWD, sold in sizes for small lawns. It steers by satellite, with an aerial in the garden on early units and corrections sent over its mobile connection on later ones, and front cameras spot obstacles. Mammotion has replaced it with the YUKA mini 2 and its own stores have sold out.

Trusted Reviews, Maison et Domotique and EasyLawnMowing all got a clean cut in straight lines, and Trusted Reviews saw no tufts left behind. Two-wheel drive struggles for grip. Trusted Reviews found its spiky tyres tore the turf on a soft, sloping lawn, and Maison et Domotique had it stall twice on a sodden patch after a storm, though it climbed a gentle slope in the dry without fuss. Maison et Domotique saw it stop for toys and never get caught out by the cat or footballs, but flat things like stepping stones sometimes fooled it. Expect to strim the edges, where Maison et Domotique measured a strip of more than 10cm, and cutting height is set with a dial on the mower rather than in the app.

Before you buy

The questions people ask about this one

Will it cope with my slope?

Mammotion rates it for 50% (27°), per the specifications. Maison et Domotique had it climb a 30% slope without fuss in the dry. On soft or wet ground it's less sure: Trusted Reviews saw its tyres tear the grass and Maison et Domotique had it stall on a sodden patch.

Can it handle two lawns or a narrow passage?

Yes. Maison et Domotique split a U-shaped garden with a narrow corridor into three zones with their own schedules. EasyLawnMowing watched it drive down a garden path and up a small ramp to mow the front lawn, then return to its dock.

How close does it cut to the edge?

Not all the way. Maison et Domotique measured a 10 to 12cm strip left along the edges that needed a strimmer. EasyLawnMowing saw it finish each zone with a lap of the edge, which tidies the border but doesn't remove the strip.

What happens when it rains?

It's rated IPX6, and a rain sensor sends it back to its dock, according to Trusted Reviews. Maison et Domotique saw it stop mowing one rainy morning and pick up again once the rain eased.

Will the neighbours hear it?

Hardly. Maison et Domotique measured 58dB at one metre and found it easy to forget during the day. It has a headlight for night mowing, per EasyLawnMowing, but Maison et Domotique advises mowing by day to spare hedgehogs and other night-time wildlife.

YUKA mini 2 1000

Why consider it: Its laser-guided replacement navigates confidently under trees and through narrow gaps without satellite help.

The compromise: It struggled on a steep test slope and can leave a strip along raised edges.

Segway Navimow i2 AWD
Segway Navimow

i2 AWD

Why consider it: An all-wheel-drive mower that grips on bumpy, sloping or damp lawns where small two-wheel-drive mowers slide.

The compromise: You'll still trim the edges, and tight strips beside walls can confuse it.

E15 Robot Lawn Mower

Why consider it: Finds its way by camera alone, with no aerial, and is one of the quickest mowers to set up.

The compromise: Testers with bumpy or damp grass had it slipping and getting stuck.
