What reviewers found
There are three finished German tests. heise Bestenlisten, home&smart and NETZWELT all found the cut even and the app easy, and heise Bestenlisten and NETZWELT found it handled steep ground. Small obstacles split them: NETZWELT saw it avoid flat toys reliably, home&smart watched it run over a hose, a dog toy and a tennis ball, and heise Bestenlisten found it bumped into anything under 10cm. heise Bestenlisten and an owner on Owner on Reddit both struggled to find a spot where the aerial saw enough satellites.

Cut quality and edges
Mixed resultsAll three found the lawn cut evenly. Edges split them: heise Bestenlisten measured 9cm left uncut and home&smart about 10cm along fences and beds, while NETZWELT was pleased with its automatic edge detection on lawns with flush borders.
Setup and boundaries
Mixed resultsNETZWELT found automatic mapping worked well with little to correct, and heise Bestenlisten found hand-driven mapping easy. But heise Bestenlisten's first aerial spot, hemmed in by buildings and trees, never saw enough satellites, and home&smart sat through a 45-minute update first.
Navigation
Reviewers rate it highlyOnce the aerial has open sky, heise Bestenlisten found it steered to the centimetre and coped with a complex garden, and NETZWELT found it mowed reliably. It's slow on bigger lawns: heise Bestenlisten needed several hours and a recharge for 250m².
Slopes and rough ground
Reviewers rate it highlyheise Bestenlisten saw it master steep patches when mowing up and down, though mowing across tripped its tilt sensor. NETZWELT saw it slip on a steep, wet slope but try other angles until it got up.
Obstacles and safety
Mixed resultsLarge things were fine for all three. Small ones split them: NETZWELT saw flat toys avoided, home&smart watched it run over a hose, a dog toy and a tennis ball, and heise Bestenlisten found it only turned after hitting anything under 10cm.
Weather
Mixed resultsheise Bestenlisten found the rain sensor sends it home and it waits three hours before going out again, but warns wet ground can still get churned on steep patches. NETZWELT saw its wheels slip on a wet slope and the turf suffer.
App and software
Reviewers rate it highlyheise Bestenlisten rates the app among the best on any mower, despite a few translation slips, and NETZWELT found it guides you through the whole setup. home&smart also found it easy to use.
Upkeep
Not enough evidenceOnly NETZWELT reported on upkeep: the cut stays clean while the blades are sharp, and they last about 70 hours, with spares in the box. No other review we use covered it.
Reliability and support
Not enough evidenceNone of the reviews we use has run it long-term or judged Ecovacs's support.
Value
Reviewers rate it highlyNETZWELT calls the price very favourable for a wire-free mower, and heise Bestenlisten found it a good mower for small to medium lawns at its current price of around €600.
Verdicts come from independent, hands-on, finished reviews. An area needs at least two of them before we say more than “Not enough evidence”. We don't score robots ourselves. How this works
The aerial needs open sky
It needs at least 20 satellites in view, per NETZWELT. heise Bestenlisten's first site, hemmed in by a three-storey building, a house and big trees, only reached 19, and moving the aerial within its 10m cable didn't help. A second spot with open sky to the south found 28, and kept 22 even in rain. An owner on Owner on Reddit also tried several positions before one worked. Look at how much sky your garden gets before you buy.
Even cut, easy app
heise Bestenlisten found the cut even, if not quite as fine as the two-disc A1600 RTK, and rated the app among the best it has seen on a mower. NETZWELT found the cut clean as long as the blades are sharp, and says they last about 70 hours. heise Bestenlisten could set mowing speed and obstacle height per zone, but mowing direction only for the whole lawn. home&smart had to sit through a 45-minute update first.
Small objects are hit and miss
Large things are no problem: all three testers saw it avoid people, furniture, footballs or dogs. Small ones split them. NETZWELT found it reliably dodged flat pet and children's toys, and struggled only with tennis-ball-sized things appearing close up. home&smart watched it miss a handball, a dog toy, a garden hose and a tennis ball and run over them. For heise Bestenlisten, it only changed direction after hitting anything under 10cm.
Expect a strip at the edges
heise Bestenlisten measured 9cm left at the edges by design, against 5cm on Ecovacs's bigger A models. home&smart saw about 10cm along fences, seating and beds, and it wouldn't cross flush edges despite the setting; Ecovacs told the tester an update would fix that. NETZWELT was happier, praising its automatic edge detection, especially on lawns with borders it can drive over. Either way, keep a strimmer.
Climbs well, but mind wet ground
heise Bestenlisten found it handled steep patches well when mowing up and down them, though mowing across the slope set off its tilt sensor. NETZWELT saw the wheels slip on a steep, wet slope, but it tried again from other angles and got there. On a flat 105m² patch heise Bestenlisten timed 54 minutes, but 250m² took several hours, including a charging break of about two hours.
All three reviewers tested the O800 RTK itself. Home&smart tested it at launch in spring 2025; heise tested it in 2026.
Our take
Should you buy the GOAT O800?
Best for: Open lawns with little tree cover. Skip it if: Trees or buildings block the sky over much of your lawn.
Worth a look for a small to medium lawn with open sky, where you want tidy rows, a good app and a mower that copes with fairly steep, bumpy ground. Testers found it reliable once the aerial was well placed. If your garden is shaded by trees or tall buildings, a mower that doesn't rely on satellites, such as the Mammotion Yuka mini 2, is a safer bet. For cleaner edges, the GOAT O1200 LiDAR Pro adds a side trimmer.
The GOAT O800 sits in the middle of Ecovacs's O series. It steers by satellite, corrected by a small aerial you put up in the garden, so there's no boundary wire. A camera and a short-range depth sensor watch for things in its way. It's rated for lawns up to 800m² and 45% slopes, cuts a 22cm strip and fits through 70cm gaps. The O600 below it shares the body with a smaller battery and narrower cut.
The trade-off is at the edges and under trees. The cutting disc sits in the middle, so testers found around 10cm left along walls and beds, and there's no side trimmer like the O1200's. The aerial needs a clear view of plenty of satellites, and one tester's first spot between buildings and trees didn't work. It's on sale from £675.

The questions people ask about this one
Does it need a clear view of the sky?
Yes. It needs at least 20 satellites, per NETZWELT, and heise Bestenlisten couldn't get enough at a site surrounded by buildings and tall trees, though an open spot worked at once. An owner on Owner on Reddit also tried several positions. The aerial's cable is 10m long, which limits where it can go.
Will it avoid hoses, toys and hedgehogs?
Larger things, yes. Testers disagree on small ones: NETZWELT found it reliably dodged flat toys, but home&smart saw it run over a hose, a dog toy and a tennis ball, and heise Bestenlisten found it only turned after hitting objects under 10cm. A default night pause helps protect hedgehogs, per home&smart.
How close does it cut to the edge?
About 9 to 10cm short of walls and beds. heise Bestenlisten measured 9cm and home&smart about 10cm. It can run past the map edge onto flush paths, per heise Bestenlisten, though that setting didn't work in home&smart's early test. Plan on strimming.
Will it cope with my slope?
Fairly well. Ecovacs rates it for 45% (24°), per the specifications. heise Bestenlisten found it handled steep ground when mowing up and down but tripped its tilt sensor going across, and NETZWELT saw it slip on a wet slope before finding a way up.
What happens when it rains?
A rain sensor sends it back to the dock, and by default it waits three hours after the rain stops before mowing again, per heise Bestenlisten. You can extend that to five. heise Bestenlisten warns very wet ground can still let it churn the turf on steep patches.
Can it handle two lawns or a narrow passage?
Yes. Ecovacs says it passes gaps of 70cm, per the specifications, and an owner on Owner on Reddit had it follow a path round a corner to a second lawn. heise Bestenlisten notes the manual asks for 1.2m-wide links, so leave room on tricky crossings.
Alternatives
Other robot lawn mowers to compare.

GOAT O1200 LiDAR PRO
£265 more than the GOAT O800
Why consider it: Laser-guided with a built-in string trimmer that cuts far more of the border than most robots.
The compromise: The trimmer is loud, and one tester's trimmer failed after two months.

YUKA mini 2 1000
£324 more than the GOAT O800
Why consider it: A small laser-guided mower for lawns up to 1,000m² that doesn't need a clear view of the sky.
The compromise: It struggles on steep slopes and may leave a strip along raised edges.

i1 series (i105E, i105N, i108E, i110N)
£92.50 less than the GOAT O800
Why consider it: A small satellite-guided mower for fairly flat lawns up to 800m² that four reviewers liked for its tidy striped cut.
The compromise: It leaves a strip at the edges and its aerial needs open sky.

E15 Robot Lawn Mower
Why consider it: Camera-guided for lawns up to 800m² with no aerial at all, and one of the quickest mowers to set up.
The compromise: Testers with bumpy or damp grass had it slipping and getting stuck.
