What reviewers found

Four home tests. Expert Reviews and Trusted Reviews tried the UK i105E, Top Ten Reviews the US i105N, and Tom's Guide the bigger US i110N. All four liked the straight-line cut and the app, and all four found you still need a strimmer along the borders. Setup split them: Trusted Reviews was ready in about ten minutes, while Expert Reviews and Tom's Guide found steering it round the boundary fiddly. Obstacle spotting was good but not flawless.

Expert Reviews, hands-on, Jun 2024 · Trusted Reviews, hands-on, May 2024 · Top Ten Reviews, hands-on, Several weeks, May 2024 (tested on the i105N) · Tom's Guide, hands-on, Mar 2025 (tested on the i110N)

  • Cut quality and edges

    Mixed results

All four liked the neat, straight-line cut. Edges are the catch: Expert Reviews and Trusted Reviews measured about 10cm left by walls and beds, though along flush paths Tom's Guide found its edge-straddling mode cut right up to the border.

  • Setup and boundaries

    Mixed results

Trusted Reviews was ready to map within ten minutes of unboxing. Expert Reviews found steering it round the boundary finicky and put a wheel in a flowerbed, and Top Ten Reviews had the wheels slip off the dock until it was moved to flatter ground.

  • Navigation

    Reviewers rate it highly

Trusted Reviews never saw it stray into flower beds, Top Ten Reviews found it stuck to its boundaries well, and Tom's Guide saw it follow its map with pinpoint accuracy across several zones. The aerial needs open sky.

  • Slopes and rough ground

    Not enough evidence

Only Top Ten Reviews reported on rough ground, finding bumps and gentle slopes no trouble. No other review we use tested it on a slope.

  • Obstacles and safety

    Mixed results

Good but not flawless. Trusted Reviews saw it go round a table, shoes and a clothes horse, and Top Ten Reviews saw it stop for a person, but Expert Reviews had it nudge a dog's ball before learning to avoid it.

  • Weather

    Not enough evidence

No review we use tested it in rain or on wet grass.

  • App and software

    Reviewers rate it highly

Expert Reviews found the app simple and informative, showing how much has been mowed, and Tom's Guide found it as accessible as the best robot vacuum apps. Cutting height is set with a dial on the mower.

  • Upkeep

    Not enough evidence

No review we use has reported on cleaning or blade changes yet.

  • Reliability and support

    Not enough evidence

No review we use has run it long-term or judged Segway's support.

  • Value

    Reviewers rate it highly

Expert Reviews calls it sensibly priced and well equipped for the money, and Tom's Guide found it relatively affordable for what it does.

Verdicts come from independent, hands-on, finished reviews. An area needs at least two of them before we say more than “Not enough evidence”. We don't score robots ourselves. How this works

A neat cut in straight lines

This is what the reviewers liked most. Expert Reviews saw it mow in overlapping stripes, changing direction on each of four runs, and got a neat and tidy lawn. Top Ten Reviews had a clean cut on the first pass, dandelions included, and said it stuck to its boundaries very well. Trusted Reviews called the cutting excellent and never saw it stray into flower beds. Tom's Guide found no uncut strips or patches left mid-lawn. If a tidy look matters, that's a step up from mowers that roam at random.

You'll still trim the edges

The blade disc sits in the middle of the body. Expert Reviews and Trusted Reviews both measured about 10cm left along walls, fences and beds, and Top Ten Reviews said you'll need a string trimmer for the borders. Where the lawn meets a flush path, a ride-on-the-edge mode lets it straddle the border: Trusted Reviews and Tom's Guide both found this cut right to the edge. Laying flat edging stones saves a lot of strimming.

Setup: quick for some, fiddly for others

Trusted Reviews had the dock and aerial in and the robot ready to map within ten minutes of unboxing, using a mix of automatic and manual edge-finding. Expert Reviews found steering it round the boundary with on-screen controls finicky and put a wheel in a flowerbed more than once. Tom's Guide got a near-perfect automatic map on a flat lawn, but on hilly sections it kept well clear of kerbs and fence posts. It also fell into the street once, before its hand-drawn boundary was tightened.

Good at spotting things, not perfect

When Trusted Reviews left out a table, shoes and a clothes horse, the mower got close, then turned or went round each one. Top Ten Reviews stood in its path and it stopped and steered away. Tom's Guide saw it add a tree and a fountain to the map on its own. But Expert Reviews had it nudge a dog's ball on the first pass before avoiding it later. Small, low objects are the risk, so pick up toys before it runs.

Mind the dock and the sky

The aerial needs open sky. Expert Reviews lists that as its main drawback, and Top Ten Reviews was told to keep it two metres from the house and trees. The dock is fussier than you'd think: Top Ten Reviews found the wheels slipped off it until it was moved to perfectly flat ground. On the lawn itself, Top Ten Reviews had no trouble with bumps or gentle slopes. This two-wheel-drive design is best on fairly flat, open ground.

This page covers the whole i1 series. Expert Reviews and Trusted Reviews tested the i105E, Top Ten Reviews the i105N (the US name for the same mower), and Tom's Guide the larger US-only i110N.

Our take

Should you buy the i1 series (i105E, i105N, i108E, i110N)?

Best for: Small, fairly flat lawns with a clear view of the sky. Skip it if: Trees or buildings block the sky over much of your lawn.

a sound buy for a small, flat, open lawn if you find one at a good price while stock lasts. For a sloping, muddy or shaded lawn, the Navimow i2 AWD grips better and needs no aerial, and the Mammotion YUKA mini 2 1000 copes better with shade.

The i1 series is Navimow's older range for small lawns. The i105E suits lawns up to about 500m², the i108E stretches further with a bigger battery, and the US also had an i110N. It steers by satellite with a small aerial on a pole and a front camera, so there's no wire to bury, and it mows in neat straight lines rather than wandering. It's two-wheel drive, you set the cutting height with a dial, and mobile data needs an add-on module. Navimow's European stores have sold out of it, so it's remaining stock only.

All four testers liked the neat striped cut. Expert Reviews got a tidy lawn from overlapping stripes, and Trusted Reviews never saw it stray into flower beds. All four found you still need a strimmer, with Expert Reviews and Trusted Reviews both measuring about 10cm left along walls and beds, though Tom's Guide found its edge-straddling mode cut right up to a flush path. Setup split them. Trusted Reviews was ready to map within ten minutes, while Expert Reviews found steering it round the boundary finicky and put a wheel in a flowerbed. Obstacle spotting was good but not flawless, as Expert Reviews had it nudge a dog's ball before learning to avoid it. The aerial needs open sky, which Expert Reviews lists as its main drawback, and Top Ten Reviews had the wheels slip off the dock until it was moved to flatter ground.

Before you buy

The questions people ask about this one

Does it need a boundary wire?

No. It uses satellite positioning with a small aerial on a pole, plus a front camera, per the specifications. You map the lawn by driving it round in the app, or let the camera find the edges. Trusted Reviews found that quick, while Expert Reviews found the steering finicky.

Will it cope with my slope?

It's rated for 30% (17°), per the specifications. Top Ten Reviews had no trouble with bumps and gentle slopes. Tom's Guide found its automatic mapping played it safe on hilly sections, keeping away from kerbs and fence posts. For a proper bank, the all-wheel-drive i2 AWD is rated for 45%.

Does it need a clear view of the sky?

Yes. The aerial needs open sky, and Expert Reviews lists that as its main drawback. Top Ten Reviews was told to keep it two metres from the house and big trees. If your lawn is heavily shaded, a mower that navigates without satellites may suit you better.

How close does it cut to the edge?

About 10cm short of walls and beds, according to both Expert Reviews and Trusted Reviews, because the blade sits in the middle. Along flush paths, a mode that straddles the edge let Tom's Guide and Trusted Reviews cut right up to it.

Is there a subscription for 4G or anti-theft?

Only if you want it. The mower runs on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and anti-theft tracking needs the separate Access+ 4G module, per the specifications. Trusted Reviews notes the module includes a first year of data, with a yearly fee after that.

How noisy is it for neighbours?

Quiet. Segway quotes 58dB(A), per the specifications. Top Ten Reviews measured about 60 decibels, like a subdued conversation, and Trusted Reviews heard just a gentle buzz while it cut.

Segway Navimow i2 AWD
Segway Navimow

i2 AWD

Why consider it: Its replacement: same app and cut, with a third driven wheel for slopes and no aerial to put up.

The compromise: Edges still need a strimmer, and 4G data is paid after the first year.

eufy E15 Robot Lawn Mower
eufy

E15 Robot Lawn Mower

Why consider it: Finds its way by camera alone, so there's no aerial and it's one of the quickest mowers to set up.

The compromise: Testers with bumpy or damp grass had it slipping and getting stuck.

Mammotion YUKA mini 2 1000
Mammotion · £999

YUKA mini 2 1000

£416.50 more than the i1 series (i105E, i105N, i108E, i110N)

Why consider it: Laser guidance lets it navigate under trees and through narrow gaps without satellite help.

The compromise: It struggled on a steep test slope and can leave a strip along raised edges.
