What reviewers found

Three proper home tests. connect and home&smart, both in Germany, rated it very good, praising the hands-off mapping, precise driving and obstacle avoidance. PCWorld in the US liked the setup and cut too, but found it underpowered on its sloping yard. The edges split them most: connect measured a wide uncut strip, while home&smart found it got closer than most rivals. A month-long owner report on Reddit owner adds that mapping gets fiddly where a lawn runs into a neighbour's.

connect, hands-on, Apr 2025 · home&smart, hands-on, May 2025 · PCWorld, hands-on, May to August 2025, Aug 2025

  • Cut quality and edges

    Mixed results

The cut itself satisfied all three testers. Edges split them: connect measured a 10 to 11cm strip along borders, while home&smart found it got closer than most rivals and PCWorld saw it cut neatly round obstacles.

  • Setup and boundaries

    Reviewers rate it highly

It maps the lawn by itself. home&smart had 100m² mapped in about 25 minutes with no help, PCWorld went from box to mowing faster than with any other mower, and connect found mapping good even in an awkward garden.

  • Navigation

    Mixed results

connect and home&smart praised its precise driving, and connect found it almost never got stuck on a bumpy lawn. PCWorld saw it blinded by low sun and mistake stepping stones for a path.

  • Slopes and rough ground

    Mixed results

PCWorld found it underpowered and had to block off slopes it couldn't climb. On a bumpy but gentler lawn, connect saw it reverse and try other routes rather than get stuck.

  • Obstacles and safety

    Reviewers rate it highly

connect saw it go round a dummy hedgehog, a soft toy and a spade, and home&smart watched it weave through cones and balls, though it often ran over a tennis ball. PCWorld found it overcautious with tall weeds.

  • Weather

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use tested it in the rain or on wet grass. connect found its detection weaker in poor light, and it can't mow after dark.

  • App and software

    Mixed results

connect rated the live camera view and remote control highly. PCWorld found the app much more stable after a few months of updates but still buggy at times, and home&smart couldn't choose which zone to mow.

  • Upkeep

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use has covered blade changes or cleaning yet.

  • Reliability and support

    Not enough evidence

Only PCWorld tested it over several months, noting an early update that stopped some mowers working for a while. No other review we use has reported on durability or support.

  • Value

    Not enough evidence

Only connect weighed up the price, finding it no bargain next to similar rivals, though the included garage softens that. No other review we use judged value.

Verdicts come from independent, hands-on, finished reviews. An area needs at least two of them before we say more than “Not enough evidence”. We don't score robots ourselves. How this works

It maps the lawn by itself

This is the headline feature, and it works. home&smart pressed start and the mower mapped its 100m² test lawn in about 25 minutes with no help. connect found automatic mapping surprisingly good even in its awkward garden, though it drove through a pile of leaves and into one bed where the lawn edge wasn't clear. PCWorld went from unboxing to mowing faster than with any mower it had tested. Expect to tidy the map with a few no-go zones afterwards.

Open boundaries need extra work

Automatic mapping assumes the whole lawn is yours. connect notes you can't tell it to stop at a certain line while mapping; it drives the lot, and you add a virtual border afterwards. The owner on Reddit owner had mapping stall beside an open property boundary and got on better by drawing cautious virtual fences and widening them bit by bit. If your lawn flows into a neighbour's, budget time for this.

Good at avoiding things, with limits

connect put a dummy hedgehog, a soft toy and a spade on the lawn, and it went round all three. home&smart saw it weave through a tight course of cones and balls without touching them, but it often missed a tennis ball and ran over it. PCWorld had it mistake tall grass and weeds for obstacles, and stepping stones for a path. connect's advice: keep the lawn tidy and mow in daylight, as detection is weaker in poor light.

The edges are where testers split

connect measured a 10–11cm strip left along borders and blamed the blade disc sitting in the middle of the body. home&smart still saw a small strip, but said it got closer to the edge than most rivals, and you can set how close it goes in the app. Its small size helped it cut neatly round obstacles for PCWorld. Either way you'll still strim, and how much depends on your borders.

Hills are its weak spot

PCWorld called it underpowered, found it only drives its rear wheels, and had to set no-go zones to stop it trying to map slopes it couldn't manage. On a bumpy lawn, connect found it almost never got stuck, because it tries several ways out and reverses rather than pushing on. eufy's own UK page quotes 40% and 18° for the slope, which don't match, so be wary if your lawn is steep.

Software that keeps improving

PCWorld tested from May and found the app much more stable by August, though an early update had even stopped some mowers working for a while. It also says the dock had to sit inside a mowing zone until a June update, which connect listed as a drawback in its earlier test. home&smart could create zones but not choose which one to mow. The live camera view and remote control won high marks from connect.

This covers the E18. The E15 and C15 have their own pages; reviews of those aren't counted here.

Our take

Should you buy the E18 Robot Lawn Mower?

Best for: Fairly flat lawns whose owners want an easy setup. Skip it if: Wi-Fi does not reach all parts of your lawn.

buy it for a fairly flat lawn of up to 1,200m² with decent Wi-Fi, if you want the easiest setup going and good obstacle avoidance. If your lawn is steep, the all-wheel-drive Mammotion LUBA mini 2 AWD is a safer bet, and if you hate strimming the GOAT O1200 LiDAR Pro cuts much closer to the border.

The E18 is the bigger of eufy's two E-series mowers. It uses cameras rather than satellites or a wire, so there's no aerial to put up. Tell it to start and it drives round the lawn and draws the map on its own. Its blade disc sits in the middle of the body, it only drives its rear wheels, it mows in daylight only, and the built-in 4G needs a paid data plan.

The self-mapping works. home&smart had its test lawn mapped in under half an hour with no help, and PCWorld went from box to mowing faster than with any mower it had tested. Obstacle avoidance impressed too: connect saw it go round a dummy hedgehog, a soft toy and a spade, though home&smart found it often ran over a tennis ball. The edges split them. connect measured a strip of 10 to 11cm left along borders, while home&smart found it got closer than most rivals. Hills are the weak spot, as PCWorld found it underpowered on its sloping yard and had to block off parts it couldn't climb. PCWorld also found the app buggy at times, though much more stable after a few months of updates, and an early update stopped some mowers working for a while.

The questions people ask about this one

Does it need a boundary wire?

No wire and no aerial. It maps the lawn with its cameras, per the specifications, and home&smart found it did so with no help at all. You can add virtual borders and no-go zones in the app afterwards, which connect found quick to do.

Will it cope with my slope?

Be careful. eufy quotes both 40% and 18° on its UK page, per the specifications, and the two figures don't agree. PCWorld found it underpowered on slopes and had to block off steep parts of its yard. For anything more than gentle rises, look at an all-wheel-drive mower.

How close does it cut to the edge?

Not all the way. connect measured a 10–11cm strip, because the blade disc is in the middle of the body. home&smart found it closer than most rivals, with an adjustable edge distance in the app, but still left a small strip.

Can it mow at night or when it rains?

No to both. It relies on cameras, so PCWorld found it can't mow in the dark, and connect saw detection weaken in poor light. It's rated IPX6 and heads back to the dock when it rains, per the specifications.

Is there a subscription for 4G or anti-theft?

4G is built in, per the specifications, but connect found the data plan is paid after a seven-day trial, with a yearly fee. You only need it if Wi-Fi doesn't reach the lawn. Theft alerts and GPS location come included.

Can it handle two lawns or a narrow passage?

connect mowed two zones and found it passed gaps wider than 70cm without trouble. PCWorld mapped several areas and drew paths between them, though the mower returned to the dock after mapping each one. home&smart couldn't pick a single zone to mow.

E15 Robot Lawn Mower

Why consider it: The same design and app for lawns up to 800m², and one of the quickest mowers to set up.

The compromise: Testers with bumpy or damp grass had it slipping and getting stuck.

Independently reviewedView profile →
ECOVACS GOAT O1200 LiDAR PRO
ECOVACS · £940

GOAT O1200 LiDAR PRO

Why consider it: Also rated for 1,200m², and its built-in string trimmer cuts far more of the border than most robots.

The compromise: The trimmer is loud, and one tester's trimmer failed after two months.

Highly rated by reviewersView profile →
Mammotion LUBA mini 2 AWD 1000
Mammotion · £1,399

LUBA mini 2 AWD 1000

Why consider it: All-wheel drive for slopes, and a side edge disc that reviewers found cut grass other mowers leave behind.

The compromise: Raised borders still need a strimmer, and a tester hit app limits on how far apart zones can be.
