What we know
Digital Home used the HRM 2500 in a garden with a wire already laid and praised its build quality, flexible dock placement and wide range of settings. heimwerker-test.de also found it well made and easy to operate, in a short write-up. You set it up on the mower's keypad or a Bluetooth app, so you need to be nearby, and the boundary wire is the main job before it can mow.
Digital Home, hands-on, Aug 2024 (Used with a boundary wire already laid) · heimwerker-test.de, hands-on (A short write-up covering setup and features, with no mowing results.)
Very well made
Digital Home found the mower superbly finished, with a spinning blade disc carrying three swinging blades and a hand wheel that sets the cutting height in five steps from 20 to 60mm. heimwerker-test.de also rated the build quality highly and put it in its top class. There's no camera: it turns when its bump sensors touch something.
Lots of settings for awkward lawns
Setting it up on the mower's keypad, Digital Home was asked about the location, the lawn and the plot size, and found the menus unusually detailed, which suits gardens with corners or areas you only want mowed sometimes. heimwerker-test.de agrees the options are huge, covering corridors between lawns and separate work areas, and found the menus clear enough for someone who doesn't do this every day. Keep the manual to hand all the same.
App control, including a joystick
Digital Home paired the Miimo app by scanning a code on the mower, then set schedules and started mowing from the phone. It could also drive the mower like a remote-control car, even outside the wire, which the reviewer enjoyed. Honda lists Bluetooth only for this model, per Honda, so expect to be near the mower to use the app. Remote control from anywhere is what the Live version adds.
The wire is the real work
Digital Home reused a wire already laid in its garden for an earlier test mower, and heimwerker-test.de notes you lay the wire first, following the manual. According to Honda, it handles passages at least 60cm wide wire-to-wire and can cross level patios and paths. The German testers had to buy wire and pegs separately, though Honda's UK store bundles them. On a lawn this size, many buyers will want a dealer to lay the wire.
What's not checked yet
Neither German write-up includes mowing results, so the basics are still open: how evenly it cuts, how it copes with the steep slopes and shady corners it's built for, how reliable it is over a season and how long the blades last. Neither says how long laying a fresh wire takes either, since Digital Home reused one already in the ground and heimwerker-test.de just points you to the manual.
Our take
Should you buy the Miimo HRM 2500?
Best for: Lawns divided by beds and passages, with a boundary wire installed. Skip it if: You do not want to install a wire around the lawn.
consider it for a large, sloping or awkwardly divided lawn where you do not want to depend on satellite signal and can get a dealer to lay the wire. If you would rather go wire-free, the Husqvarna Automower 435X AWD NERA has two long tests behind it, and for a smaller lawn a Worx Landroid is a wired option testers found good value.
The HRM 2500 is the bigger of Honda's standard Miimos, rated for lawns up to 3,000m². It mows inside a boundary wire, with an optional shortcut wire to guide it through narrow passages and back to the dock. Control is by buttons on the mower or an app over Bluetooth, so only from nearby. There is no camera, and it turns when its bump sensors touch something. Honda's argument for the wire is that it keeps working under trees and beside buildings where satellite mowers struggle.

Before you buy
The questions people ask about this one
Does it need a boundary wire?
Yes. It mows inside a boundary wire, with an optional shortcut wire for narrow passages, per the specifications. Digital Home notes the wire wasn't in the German box and had to be bought separately; Honda's UK store sells it with wire and pegs included.
Will it cope with my slope?
Honda rates it for 47% inside the lawn but only 17% where the wire runs across a slope, per the specifications. Digital Home repeats the 47% figure, but no tester has tried it on a steep lawn.
Can it handle two lawns or a narrow passage?
Honda says it gets through passages at least 60cm wide wire-to-wire and can mow connected areas by itself, per the specifications. heimwerker-test.de highlights settings for corridors between lawns and separate work areas.
What happens when it rains?
It's rated IPX4 and pauses in heavy rain, per the specifications. That's a lower rating than the HRM 4000 Live, so don't hose it down. Neither Digital Home nor heimwerker-test.de reports how it coped with wet grass.
How noisy is it for neighbours?
Honda quotes 58dB(A), per the specifications, which is quiet for a robot mower. heimwerker-test.de listed very quiet running among its plus points, though it didn't publish a measurement.
Alternatives
Other robot lawn mowers to compare.

Automower 435X AWD NERA
Why consider it: All-wheel drive for big, rough gardens up to 5,000m², and two long tests found a very even cut and dependable running.
The compromise: It runs over small objects and leaves a strip at the edges.

Landroid Classic (boundary-wire range)
Why consider it: A boundary-wire mower for lawns up to 2,000m² that testers found quiet, neat and good value.
The compromise: You still lay a wire, and the reviews are a few years old now.

X4 series
Why consider it: Three tests found this big four-wheel-drive mower fast, sure-footed and kind to the turf on large, hilly lawns.
The compromise: It's heavy, too wide for narrow gaps, and edges are its weak spot.
