What reviewers found

Expert Reviews and T3 both tested the 308V at home and both scored it 4 out of 5. They agree it mows neatly and methodically, drives smoothly and steers round objects on the lawn. Both flag the same weakness: it needs strong Wi-Fi across the whole garden, or a paid add-on. T3 tested the bigger 312V, which shares this mower's hardware, and liked the cut but fought the app during setup. Nobody has reported on a full season of use yet.

Expert Reviews, hands-on, Aug 2026 (Tested in a long, narrow, bumpy garden) · T3, hands-on, Several weeks, Apr 2026 · T3, hands-on, Mar 2026 (tested on the Automower 312V; Same hardware, rated for a larger lawn)

  • Cut quality and edges

    Reviewers rate it highly

T3 got a striped lawn it compared to Wimbledon, Expert Reviews found the cuts thorough and methodical, and T3 rated the 312V's cut excellent. With no edge disc, it leaves a thin band at the borders to strim now and then.

  • Setup and boundaries

    Mixed results

It hinges on Wi-Fi. Expert Reviews, with a good signal across the lawn, found setup simple. T3 needed Husqvarna's paid, dealer-fitted reference station, and T3 fought a blank map and misbehaving settings on the 312V.

  • Navigation

    Reviewers rate it highly

T3 saw it follow almost the same neat path every day without needing any boundary changes, and Expert Reviews found it mowed methodically and kept going under trees at one end of the garden.

  • Slopes and rough ground

    Mixed results

T3 found the 312V, which has the same wheels and drive, coped well with a lumpy, mole-damaged lawn. Expert Reviews saw the small front wheels balk at roots and slabs standing a couple of centimetres proud.

  • Obstacles and safety

    Reviewers rate it highly

The camera steers it round clutter: Expert Reviews saw it avoid a shoe and a bucket and only gently nudge a clothes airer, and T3 found it routed neatly round obstacles.

  • Weather

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use tested it in the rain or on wet grass; T3 had little rain during its test.

  • App and software

    Mixed results

T3 found the app clean and a joy for schedules and no-go areas. Expert Reviews found the remote control laggy and the boundary editor awkward, and T3 needed a lot of troubleshooting before it worked.

  • Upkeep

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use has changed blades or covered cleaning in practice yet. T3 notes blade changes look simple with the manual and a screwdriver.

  • Reliability and support

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use has reported on a full season of use or judged Husqvarna's support. T3 tested it for several weeks.

  • Value

    Mixed results

Expert Reviews calls it decent value if you need its coverage, though rivals are cheaper. T3 found it premium-priced, and more so if weak Wi-Fi means paying extra for the reference station and dealer install.

Verdicts come from independent, hands-on, finished reviews. An area needs at least two of them before we say more than “Not enough evidence”. We don't score robots ourselves. How this works

A neat, methodical cut

Expert Reviews watched it mow once round the edge, then in long stripes down the middle, and found the first cuts thorough; its small lawn took as little as 19 minutes. T3 got a striped lawn it compared to Wimbledon and noticed it follows almost the same path every day, finishing each pass with a neat three-point turn. After several weeks, T3 hadn't needed to adjust boundaries or schedules once. You can pick stripes, checks, triangles or random mowing, but Expert Reviews found you can't set a different pattern for each day.

Wi-Fi decides how easy setup is

The mower gets its position corrections over your Wi-Fi, so the signal has to reach the whole lawn. Expert Reviews had that and found setup simple. T3 didn't, and needed Husqvarna's separate reference station, which costs extra and has to be fitted by a dealer. Testing the 312V, T3 fought the app: the map was blank, then out of date, and settings misbehaved almost everywhere, possibly because of patchy connectivity. Check your Wi-Fi in the far corners before you buy, or pay for the dealer setup.

Good at dodging, less so at climbing

The camera steers it round most clutter. Expert Reviews saw it avoid a shoe and a bucket and only gently nudge a rotary clothes airer before going round it, and T3 found it neatly routed round obstacles. Rough ground is another matter. Expert Reviews found it got stuck on one deliberately untidy clump, and its small front wheels balked at roots and paving slabs standing more than a couple of centimetres proud. Cut back overgrown patches and check for raised edges before you let it loose.

Edges still need a strimmer

There's no second cutting disc for the borders, unlike Husqvarna's 305E NERA. Expert Reviews says that means it can't get quite as close to the edges, though an occasional strim was no great bother. T3 found it leaves a thin band of uncut grass along the edges, like most robot mowers it has tested. If a crisp border matters to you, budget for some trimming or look at a model with an edge disc.

Mapping by remote control

You draw the lawn by steering the mower round its edge from your phone. Expert Reviews found the controls a little laggy at first and the boundary editor awkward, because the satellite photo disappears just when you need it. T3 found the app clean and easy for schedules, no-go areas and paths between lawns, but noted the mapping doesn't like sharp corners and there's no way to drive it round manually to mow a missed patch. T3 liked the options once everything finally worked.

T3's 312V review covers a sibling with the same hardware and a larger area rating.

Our take

Should you buy the Automower 308V?

Best for: Small, fairly flat lawns with a clear view of the sky. Skip it if: You lack lawn-wide Wi-Fi and will not pay for positioning add-ons.

The 308V may suit a fairly level lawn with lawn-wide Wi-Fi, or a budget for a suitable positioning add-on. Its 800m² rating applies to systematic mowing; random mowing is rated for 500m², and the reviews did not verify either maximum. Two exact-model tests support a neat cut, but raised roots and slabs caused trouble. The Aspire R6V serves a smaller rated area; an edge-disc alternative can reduce trimming without eliminating it.

The 308V is the middle of Husqvarna's simpler wire-free trio, rated for 800m². It positions itself by satellite with corrections sent over your Wi-Fi, and a camera in the nose spots things left on the lawn. You mark the edges by steering it round the garden from your phone, then choose stripes, checks or triangles. There is no second blade for the edges.

Expert Reviews and T3 both scored it four out of five. T3 got a striped lawn it compared to Wimbledon and never had to touch the boundaries or schedule over several weeks, and Expert Reviews found the cuts thorough and methodical. Both saw the camera work: Expert Reviews watched it avoid a shoe and a bucket and only nudge a clothes airer. Wi-Fi decided the setup. Expert Reviews had a strong signal and found it simple, while T3 needed Husqvarna's paid, dealer-fitted reference station. Expert Reviews found the small front wheels balk at roots and raised slabs, and both say the borders still need an occasional strim. Expert Reviews called it decent value if you need the coverage, T3 found it premium-priced.

The questions people ask about this one

Does it need a boundary wire?

No. You set a virtual boundary by driving the mower round the lawn from your phone, and it keeps to it using satellite positioning, per the specifications. Expert Reviews found that quick once the Wi-Fi was sorted, and you can store up to ten maps, for example a front and a back lawn.

Does it need a clear view of the sky?

The standard setup needs a decent view of the satellites near the station and Wi-Fi across the lawn, per the specifications. Expert Reviews saw it keep mowing beneath trees at one end of its garden, but that doesn't mean it will cope under every dense canopy. T3 used a paid reference station where the Wi-Fi fell short. Check which positioning setup suits your lawn.

Will it cope with my slope?

Husqvarna rates it for 40% inside the lawn and 15% near the boundary, per the specifications. Neither tester tried a steep slope. Expert Reviews found it handled a bumpy garden but its small front wheels balked at roots and slabs sticking up more than a couple of centimetres.

How close does it cut to the edge?

Not very. It has no edge disc, and T3 found it leaves a thin band of uncut grass along the borders. Expert Reviews says you'll need to strim the edges occasionally, which it didn't find a great bother.

How noisy is it for neighbours?

Husqvarna rates it at 63dB(A), per the specifications. That sounds loud on paper, but Expert Reviews could barely hear it from a metre or so away, and thought neighbours would appreciate how quiet it is.

Automower 305E NERA

£474.17 more than the Automower 308V

Why consider it: Two reviews agree it cuts neatly and its edge disc trims borders well, for lawns up to 900m².

The compromise: It has no camera, so it finds obstacles by bumping into them.

Mammotion · £1,399

LUBA mini 2 AWD 1000

£449 more than the Automower 308V

Why consider it: All-wheel drive and a side edge disc that leaves far less trimming than most robots, for lawns up to 1,000m².

The compromise: Raised borders still need a strimmer, and early software limited how far apart your lawns can be.

WORX Landroid Vision Cloud
WORX · £799

Landroid Vision Cloud

£151 less than the Automower 308V

Why consider it: Testers found it among the easiest wire-free mowers to set up, and good at dodging clutter.

The compromise: The smaller models struggle on steep ground.

Automower 308V head to head

Head to head

Husqvarna Automower 305E NERA vs Automower 308V

Our verdict: The 308V's camera steered round several objects in testing; the 305E NERA adds an edge disc but finds objects by touch. Standard cloud positioning needs good connectivity, with paid positioning options available. Choose for your layout and edging needs, and clear toys and other hazards rather than trusting a few good encounters.
