What reviewers found

T3 tested the 312V and scored it 4 out of 5: an excellent cut on a lumpy, mossy lawn, but a frustrating app setup. Expert Reviews and T3 tested the 308V, the same mower rated for a smaller lawn, and also scored it 4 out of 5, finding it neat, smooth and good at avoiding objects. All three say it needs good Wi-Fi across the garden. Nobody has reported on a full season of use yet.

  • Cut quality and edges

    Reviewers rate it highly

T3 found the cut excellent even on a mossy, mole-damaged lawn, and on the same mower's smaller 308V version, T3 and Expert Reviews got neat, methodical stripes. With no edge disc, expect to strim a thin band at the borders.

  • Setup and boundaries

    Mixed results

T3 found setup far harder than the app suggests, with a blank map and settings misbehaving. On the 308V, Expert Reviews found it simple with good Wi-Fi, while T3 needed a paid, dealer-fitted reference station.

  • Navigation

    Reviewers rate it highly

On the 308V, T3 saw it follow almost the same neat path every day with no boundary changes needed, and Expert Reviews found it mowed methodically and kept going under trees.

  • Slopes and rough ground

    Mixed results

T3 found it coped admirably with a lumpy, mole-damaged lawn. On the 308V, Expert Reviews saw the small front wheels balk at roots and raised slabs, and it got stuck on an untidy clump.

  • Obstacles and safety

    Reviewers rate it highly

On the 308V, Expert Reviews saw it avoid a shoe and a bucket and only gently nudge a clothes airer, and T3 found the camera routed it neatly round obstacles.

  • Weather

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use has tested it in the rain or on wet grass yet.

  • App and software

    Mixed results

T3 found the app impressive once configured but clunky to get there. On the 308V, T3 found it clean and easy, while Expert Reviews found the remote control laggy and the boundary editor awkward.

  • Upkeep

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use has changed blades or covered cleaning in practice yet. T3 notes blade changes look simple with the manual and a screwdriver.

  • Reliability and support

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use has reported on a full season or judged Husqvarna's support. T3 stresses it was early days.

  • Value

    Not enough evidence

Only T3 judged the 312V's price, finding it excellent as it should be for the money, though it points to the cheaper 308V. The 308V reviews judged a different price.

Verdicts come from independent, hands-on, finished reviews. An area needs at least two of them before we say more than “Not enough evidence”. We don't score robots ourselves. How this works

Copes well with a tired lawn

T3 tried it on a back lawn that moles had churned up for years, mossy after a wet spell, and found it coped admirably, with an excellent cut. It praised the build quality too, and changing blades looked simple with the manual and a screwdriver. The reviewer stressed it was early days, so that's no guide to long-term reliability. On the smaller 308V, Expert Reviews and T3 found it mowed in tidy stripes along almost the same path every day.

The app was the hard part

T3 found setup far harder than the app suggests. The map view was blank at first, then showed an out-of-date picture, and settings gave trouble in almost every area, sending the reviewer back to the manual and online forums. It suspects patchy Wi-Fi or Bluetooth played a part. T3 and Expert Reviews found the 308V simple once Wi-Fi reached the whole lawn, though T3 needed a dealer-fitted reference station to get there. Husqvarna offers a setup service, which T3 thought worth considering.

Good at dodging, less so at climbing

On the smaller sibling, the camera steered round most clutter. Expert Reviews saw it avoid a shoe and a bucket and only gently nudge a rotary clothes airer before going round it, and T3 found it neatly routed round obstacles. Rough ground is another matter. Expert Reviews found it got stuck on one deliberately untidy clump, and its small front wheels balked at roots and paving slabs standing more than a couple of centimetres proud. Cut back overgrown patches and check for raised edges before you let it loose.

Edges still need a strimmer

There's no second cutting disc for the borders, unlike Husqvarna's 305E NERA. Expert Reviews says that means it can't get quite as close to the edges, though an occasional strim was no great bother. T3 found it leaves a thin band of uncut grass along the edges, like most robot mowers it has tested. If a crisp border matters to you, budget for some trimming or look at a model with an edge disc.

Expert Reviews and T3's 308V review tested the smaller 308V, which shares the 312V's hardware.

Our take

Should you buy the Automower 312V?

Best for: Open lawns with little tree cover. Skip it if: Wi-Fi does not reach all parts of your lawn.

buy it if your lawn is too big for the 308V, your Wi-Fi covers all of it, and you can spend time on setup or pay Husqvarna to do it. For neater edges without a camera, the Husqvarna Automower 310E NERA covers more ground, and the eufy E18 sets itself up with far less effort.

The 312V is the biggest of Husqvarna's simpler wire-free trio, rated for 1,200m². It is the same hardware as the 308V with a larger area rating. It positions itself by satellite with corrections over your Wi-Fi, a camera in the nose spots objects, and you draw the boundary by steering it from your phone. There is no edge disc.

T3 is the only tester to try this exact model, scoring it four out of five. It found the cut excellent even on a mossy lawn churned up by moles, but setup was far harder than the app suggests, with a blank map and settings misbehaving almost everywhere, possibly because of patchy Wi-Fi. On the 308V, T3 and Expert Reviews got neat, methodical stripes and saw the camera steer round a shoe, a bucket and a clothes airer. Expert Reviews found setup simple with good Wi-Fi, while T3 needed a dealer-fitted reference station. Expert Reviews also saw the small front wheels balk at roots and raised slabs. T3 rated the 312V excellent but points to the cheaper 308V.

Before you buy

The questions people ask about this one

Does it need a boundary wire?

No. You draw a virtual boundary by driving it round the lawn from your phone, per the specifications. T3 found the app capable once configured, with zones for front and back gardens, but getting there took a lot of troubleshooting.

Does it need a clear view of the sky?

It needs satellite reception and Wi-Fi across the lawn, per the specifications. T3 warns that too much tree cover can stop it connecting to satellites. On the 308V, Expert Reviews found the camera let it keep mowing under trees at one end of the garden.

Will it cope with my slope?

Husqvarna rates it for 40% inside the lawn and 15% at the boundary, per the specifications. T3 found it handled an uneven, mole-damaged lawn well, but nobody has tested a steep slope. On the 308V, Expert Reviews saw the front wheels balk at raised slabs and roots.

How close does it cut to the edge?

Not all the way, as there's no edge disc. On the identical 308V, T3 found it left a thin band uncut along the borders, and Expert Reviews needed to strim now and then.

Is there a subscription for 4G or anti-theft?

Position corrections come from Husqvarna Cloud at no extra cost over your Wi-Fi, per the specifications. Mobile data needs an optional kit fitted by a dealer. T3 notes a geofence alarm if someone tries to take it.

Husqvarna Automower 310E NERA
Husqvarna · £1,599

Automower 310E NERA

Why consider it: Covers up to 1,500m² with a second disc that trims close to the edges, and testers loved the finish.

The compromise: It has no camera, so it runs over small objects instead of avoiding them.

eufy E18 Robot Lawn Mower
eufy

E18 Robot Lawn Mower

Why consider it: A camera-guided mower for up to 1,200m² that maps the garden by itself and dodges most things in its way.

The compromise: It leaves a strip along the edges and struggles on steeper slopes.

Mammotion LUBA mini 2 AWD 1000
Mammotion · £1,399

LUBA mini 2 AWD 1000

Why consider it: All-wheel drive and a side edge disc that leaves far less trimming than most robots, for lawns up to 1,000m².

The compromise: Raised borders still need a strimmer, and early software limited how far apart your lawns can be.
