What reviewers found

Two home tests. Ideal Home ran it in a one-bedroom flat with laminate, vinyl, rugs and a cat, and Just A Dad Approved lived with it for three months. Both praise the edge cleaning and the slim body, and both found obstacle avoidance poor and hair wrapping the brush. They disagree on mopping: Ideal Home calls it one of the best at this price, while Just A Dad Approved found it light and had pads fall off mid-run.

Ideal Home, hands-on, Aug 2026 (Tested in a one-bedroom flat with a cat) · Just A Dad Approved, hands-on, Three months, Sept 2026

  • Hard floors

    Reviewers rate it highly

Both testers liked it on hard floors, especially the edges. Ideal Home found the pads and side brush got right up to the skirting boards and cleared a grubby corner, and Just A Dad Approved found it did a respectable everyday job and rated its wall and corner cleaning highly.

  • Carpet and rugs

    Mixed results

Only adequate. Just A Dad Approved found carpet pickup average, and Ideal Home suggests a mostly carpeted home would be better served by a rival with stronger suction, though its carpet detection worked well.

  • Pet hair

    Reviewers found problems

Both testers saw hair wrap the supposedly tangle-free brush. Ideal Home found every strand wound tightly round the roller after one pass, and Just A Dad Approved rated pet-hair pickup the weak spot, with the small bin filling fast.

  • Mopping

    Mixed results

The testers split. Ideal Home saw a fresh barbecue-sauce spill scrubbed up in one pass and called the mopping one of the best at this price, while Just A Dad Approved found it light-duty, with cold-water pad washing and pads that sometimes fell off.

  • Navigation and obstacles

    Reviewers found problems

Mapping is quick, but it can't see what's on the floor. Ideal Home called its object avoidance the worst it tested this year, tangling in charging cables and dragging cat toys, and Just A Dad Approved found it didn't reliably dodge cords or clutter.

  • Dock and upkeep

    Mixed results

Ideal Home found the dock compact enough for a small flat, but flimsy to assemble and with nowhere to add detergent. Just A Dad Approved found its cold-water pad washing limited, and pads sometimes fell off the robot.

  • App and software

    Mixed results

Ideal Home found the Roomba Home app clean and user-friendly, with quick, accurate mapping. Just A Dad Approved found it just okay, spread across too many pages and without much fine-tuning.

  • Noise

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use measured or judged how loud the robot or its dock is.

  • Reliability and support

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use has judged it long-term, though three months in Just A Dad Approved still couldn't buy official replacement parts, only third-party ones.

  • Value

    Not enough evidence

Only Ideal Home judged value, finding it cleans better than its price suggests for a mostly hard-floored home.

Verdicts come from independent, hands-on, finished reviews. An area needs at least two of them before we say more than “Not enough evidence”. We don't score robots ourselves. How this works

Can't see what's on the floor

Both testers agree this is the big weakness. Ideal Home calls its object avoidance the worst it tested this year: it dragged cat toys into the hallway, tangled in charging cables almost at once, tried to climb a pet feeder and ran into her feet. Just A Dad Approved found it didn't reliably dodge cords or small clutter. iRobot says it steers round cords, shoes and toys, but it has no camera. Clear the floor before every run.

Edges and corners come up clean

This is its best trick. Ideal Home found the pads and side brush got right up against skirting boards and cleaned a permanently grubby corner by a cat flap. Just A Dad Approved also rates its corner and wall cleaning highly, and found room navigation strong without a turret on top. Mapping was quick and accurate for Ideal Home. If dust lines along the walls bug you, it deals with them well.

Mopping splits the testers

Ideal Home was impressed: a fresh barbecue-sauce spill on laminate came up in one pass, scrubbed rather than smeared, with nothing carried onto a nearby rug, and it called the mopping one of the best at this price. Just A Dad Approved found it light-duty, blaming the lack of a water tank on the robot, cold-water pad washing and pads that sometimes fell off. Fresh spills should be fine; don't expect deep cleaning of old marks.

Hair still wraps the brush

iRobot sells the rubber brush as tangle-free, but neither tester agrees. Ideal Home saw three tufts of hair go up in one pass, then found every strand wrapped tightly round the roller afterwards. Just A Dad Approved also saw wrap, rated pet-hair pickup only okay, and found the small bin filled quickly, after which the robot keeps running without picking much up. With a shedding pet, expect regular scissor work.

Small dock, small robot, few parts

The dock is compact: Ideal Home found it about half the floor space of a MOVA P50 Pro Ultra and fitted it in a small flat easily, though assembly felt flimsy and there's nowhere to add detergent. Just A Dad Approved says the small battery, bin and pads suit small homes, and that it will struggle in a larger one. Three months in, he still couldn't buy official replacement parts, only third-party ones.

The Plus 415 and Plus 415X are the same robot and dock; the X is the Amazon model number.

Our take

Should you buy the Roomba Plus 415 Combo?

Best for: Small homes with low furniture and little space for a dock. Skip it if: Cables, socks or small toys are often left on your floors.

buy it for a small flat with mostly hard floors and low furniture, as long as you pick things up before it runs. The Plus 575 Combo adds a camera for cluttered floors, and the eufy Omni E25 is the stronger cleaner for pet hair or carpet.

The Plus 415 Combo is the entry model in iRobot's slim Plus range and replaces the taller Plus 405 Combo. At 8.35cm tall it gets under more furniture than most, and it vacuums and mops in one run with two spinning pads that lift on rugs. The dock empties the bin, washes the pads and dries them with warm air. The 415X sold on Amazon is the same robot.

Both testers praised the edge cleaning. Ideal Home found the pads and side brush got right up to the skirting boards and cleared a grubby corner by a cat flap, and Just A Dad Approved rated its wall and corner cleaning highly. Both found obstacle avoidance poor, with Ideal Home calling it the worst it tested this year after it tangled in charging cables and dragged cat toys about, and both saw hair wrap the supposedly tangle-free brush. Mopping split them. Ideal Home saw a fresh barbecue-sauce spill scrubbed up in one pass and called it one of the best at this price, while Just A Dad Approved found it light-duty, with cold-water washing and pads that sometimes fell off. There's no camera and nowhere to add detergent, and three months after launch Just A Dad Approved still couldn't buy official replacement parts.

Before you buy

The questions people ask about this one

Will it avoid cables and pet mess?

No. Ideal Home found it tangled in charging cables and dragged cat toys around, and Just A Dad Approved saw it miss cords and small clutter. It navigates by laser alone, with no camera, per the specifications. Pick things up first.

Does it fit under low furniture?

Very likely. It's 8.35cm tall and about 30cm across, per the specifications, and Just A Dad Approved found the slim body got under furniture that stops bigger robots. That's much lower than the Plus 405 Combo it replaces.

Can it leave the mops in the dock for carpet?

No, but it lifts the pads 10mm when it detects carpet, per the specifications. Ideal Home heard the suction rise as it crossed rugs and found nothing damp the next morning. Deep-pile rugs are the risk, so test yours.

How big is the dock, and is it loud?

It's 33 × 33 × 48.5cm, per the specifications, and Ideal Home found it took about half the floor space of a rival's washing dock. Neither tester measured the noise. The dock empties into a bag and dries the pads with warm air after washing.

How often do I have to empty or refill anything?

iRobot claims up to three months between bag changes, per the specifications. You'll refill the dock's clean-water tank and empty the dirty one. Just A Dad Approved found the robot's small bin filled fast in a home with pet hair, and Ideal Home says filters need changing every three to six months.

Why consider it: One of the best robots tested for pet hair, with a camera for cables and shoes.

Why consider it: A hair-cutting brush, a hotter mop wash and mops it can leave in the dock.
