What reviewers found

Three tests: Les Numériques in its lab, TechRadar over two weeks at home and Xataka over several weeks in a family home with a cocker spaniel. All three rate the vacuuming and the dock highly for the money. Mopping splits them. TechRadar and Xataka were pleased, but Les Numériques found stains needed a second pass or didn't shift at all. Rugs split them too: two had to mark them by hand, while TechRadar saw the pads lift on their own, except on a thin rug.

Les Numériques, lab test, May 2024 · TechRadar, hands-on, 2 weeks at home, Sept 2024 · Xataka, hands-on, Several weeks at home

  • Hard floors

    Reviewers rate it highly

Les Numériques measured strong pickup on hard floor in its lab, TechRadar found crushed biscuit and flour cleared apart from some flour in floorboard gaps, and Xataka found even the quiet setting handled daily crumbs and grit.

  • Carpet and rugs

    Mixed results

Very good on thin rugs, less so on thick. TechRadar called its rug results exceptional after a second pass, and Les Numériques measured near-total pickup on thin carpet but less on long pile. Xataka found it only really suits thin rugs.

  • Pet hair

    Not enough evidence

Only Xataka tested it with a pet. It picked up most of a cocker spaniel's hair, but hair wound round the bristle roller and needed clearing, and nobody else has tested pet hair yet.

  • Mopping

    Mixed results

Xataka found the pads effective on small dried drips of drink and coffee, and TechRadar saw honey and soy sauce cleared in two passes, with a sticky film left. Les Numériques found no dried stain fully gone after one pass.

  • Navigation and obstacles

    Mixed results

Xataka never had it lost or stuck, and TechRadar rated its mapping among the best. But thin cables caught it out: Les Numériques saw it swallow one, and TechRadar had a shoelace tangled in the side brush.

  • Dock and upkeep

    Reviewers rate it highly

All three rated the dock highly. Xataka found upkeep close to far pricier robots, TechRadar liked that it can flush its own washing tray, and Les Numériques rated it very complete, though it advises emptying the dirty tank weekly.

  • App and software

    Mixed results

TechRadar found the app mostly intuitive, and Les Numériques found plenty of options. But Xataka found everyday tasks took too many taps, and both it and Les Numériques hit poor translations.

  • Noise

    Reviewers rate it highly

Les Numériques measured 53dB on standard power and 59dB on maximum, plus a brief 69dB when emptying, and TechRadar found it didn't make a racket during two weeks of daily runs.

  • Reliability and support

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use has run it long-term or judged Xiaomi's support yet.

  • Value

    Reviewers rate it highly

All three found it strong value. TechRadar called the price a steal for a self-emptying, mop-washing robot, Xataka said nothing in its price range offers as much, and Les Numériques named it a new benchmark under €500.

Verdicts come from independent, hands-on, finished reviews. An area needs at least two of them before we say more than “Not enough evidence”. We don't score robots ourselves. How this works

Vacuums like a pricier robot

Les Numériques measured 93 to 95% pickup on hard floor, up to 100% on thin carpet in Turbo and 80 to 84% on long-pile carpet, better than the X10+ it replaced. TechRadar called the rug results exceptional, though flour needed a second run and some stayed in floorboard gaps. Xataka found even the quiet setting handled daily hair, crumbs and grit in a home with a dog. Daily upkeep is covered; keep a stick vacuum for the odd deep clean.

You'll mark the rugs yourself

Les Numériques and Xataka both found the X20+ doesn't recognise rugs on its own, so you draw them on the map to get the carpet boost and keep the mops off. Xataka found that fiddly because you can't mark them precisely. TechRadar saw the mops lift on a rug but stay down on a thin kitchen rug. The pads rise only 7mm, and Xiaomi suggests changing settings for carpet thicker than 5mm, per Xiaomi. If your rugs move about, this gets tiresome.

Mopping is fine for daily grime

Xataka was most impressed by the mopping, which lifted small dried drips of drink and coffee. TechRadar saw honey and soy sauce cleared in two passes, though a sticky film was left behind. Les Numériques was tougher: none of four dried stains came off in one pass, soda and oil went on the second, and carbon and lipstick stayed. Use it to keep floors fresh, and set a second pass for kitchens.

Finds its way, misses thin things

Xataka had no lost or stuck runs over several weeks, and TechRadar said navigation was right up with the best. Cables are another story. Xataka's robot steered round them, but Les Numériques saw it swallow a thin one, and TechRadar had a shoelace caught in the side brush. Shoes, toys and fabric were mostly avoided. Xataka also found it skipped a 40cm gap beside a bed that it could have fitted through. Pick up cables, and check tight spots on the map.

A big dock that does a lot

The dock takes two 4-litre water tanks and a dust bag, and TechRadar liked that it can flush out its own washing tray. It's a tall white block that TechRadar suggests tucking out of sight. Xataka still emptied dirty water and topped up clean water roughly weekly, and Les Numériques advises weekly emptying because smells build fast. The two disagree on drying: Les Numériques says it blows unheated air, while TechRadar describes hot air. Emptying lasted about 15 seconds at 69dB in Les Numériques' test.

Les Numériques and Xataka reviewed in French and Spanish; their findings are summarised here in English. This page covers the X20+ only.

Our take

Should you buy the Robot Vacuum X20+?

Best for: Homes with mostly hard floors and a few rugs. Skip it if: You have thick carpets or lightweight rugs that move easily.

buy it if your floors are mostly hard with a few thin rugs and you want the dock to do the dirty work for not much money. If rugs move about, cables live on the floor or you have thick carpet, look at the eufy Omni C20 or Roborock Qrevo S instead.

The X20+ is the cheaper X20, a robot vacuum with two spinning mop pads and a large dock that empties the bin, washes the pads and dries them. That kind of dock used to come only with much pricier robots. To get the price down Xiaomi left out the sensor underneath that spots rugs, fitted a simpler front obstacle sensor than the X10+ had, and washes the pads in cold water.

All three testers rate the vacuuming and the dock highly for the money. Les Numériques measured strong pickup on hard floor in its lab and near-total pickup on thin carpet, with less on long pile. TechRadar called its rug results exceptional after a second pass, and Xataka found even the quiet setting handled daily crumbs and grit in a home with a cocker spaniel. Mopping is more mixed: Xataka was impressed on dried drips of drink, TechRadar cleared honey and soy sauce in two passes with a sticky film left, and Les Numériques found no dried stain fully gone in one pass. The missing rug sensor means you draw rugs on the map yourself, which Xataka found fiddly. Thin cables caught it out too: Les Numériques saw it swallow one, and TechRadar had a shoelace tangled in the side brush. All three call it strong value, and Les Numériques named it a new benchmark at its price.

The questions people ask about this one

How does it handle rugs?

You tell it where they are. Les Numériques and Xataka both had to add rugs to the map by hand. The pads lift up to 7mm, per the specifications, so thick rugs are best set to be avoided when mopping, or vacuumed in a separate run.

Will it avoid cables and pet mess?

Don't count on it. Les Numériques saw it swallow a thin cable, though it avoided small objects and fabric. TechRadar found it good with toys and shoes but wouldn't vouch for dog mess. Tidy the floor before it runs.

Does it fit under low furniture?

It's 9.7cm tall with a laser turret on top, per the specifications, so it clears most beds and sofas but not low ones. Measure your tightest gap first. TechRadar also found it treated hanging sofa and bed valances as walls until they were tucked up.

How often do I have to empty or refill anything?

About once a week for the water. Xataka emptied the dirty tank and refilled the clean one roughly weekly, and Les Numériques recommends the same to avoid smells. Xiaomi claims up to 75 days per dust bag, per the specifications; Xataka's was still nearly empty after its test.

How big is the dock, and is it loud?

It's 58.6cm tall, 42.7cm wide and 34cm deep, per the specifications. Les Numériques measured 53dB while vacuuming on Standard, 59dB on full power and 69dB for the brief bin-emptying burst, so schedule runs for when you're out.

Does it need an account?

Yes. It uses the Xiaomi Home app, and Xataka had to create an account before adding the robot. Both Xataka and Les Numériques noticed poor translations in the app, and Xataka found everyday tasks took too many taps.
