Fourier N1
A compact open research humanoid aimed squarely at developers. The open-source angle is useful, but it competes in a crowded research market and has far less community evidence than Unitree's established platforms.

What the evidence shows
N1’s documentation is unusually useful for understanding the practical starting point: setting up software, connecting to the robot and developing movement control.
There is a documented development route
Fourier’s SDK provides interfaces for configuration, robot control and reading sensors. Its tested setup lists Ubuntu 22.04 with Python 3.11; other operating systems are not shown with the same completed test marks.

The documentation separates higher-level user access, lower-level development and publish/subscribe communication. That matters to a team building experiments. It does not show that a nontechnical owner can request general household work or avoid the need for programming and validation.
