What reviewers found

Two long home tests, one glowing and one lukewarm. Xataka used it for weeks in a flat with two large dogs and calls it the best mopper it has tried. Just A Dad Approved ran it from June to August 2026 with a dog and a child, and praised its mopping and obstacle avoidance but called it a year or two behind rivals. They agree on mopping, navigation and low upkeep, and disagree on hair tangling, noise and the app.

Xataka, hands-on, Several weeks at home, Aug 2026 · Just A Dad Approved, hands-on, June to August 2026 (tested on the Roomba Max 775 Pet Combo (US name))

  • Hard floors

    Mixed results

Just A Dad Approved found hardwood came out clean without debris scattering, and Xataka found it vacuums well overall. But Xataka noticed the side brushes don't reach into corners as well as some rivals, and it doesn't clean under clutter it avoids.

  • Carpet and rugs

    Reviewers rate it highly

Just A Dad Approved found it picks up fine on carpet with plenty of suction, and Xataka, in a flat with two large dogs, saw the hair left in fabrics drop almost to nothing.

  • Pet hair

    Mixed results

Both found it lifts dog hair well, but they split on tangling. Xataka saw no hair balls on the brushes in weeks with two big dogs, while Just A Dad Approved's long-hair test left the dual rubber brushes wrapped, which he warns could damage the roller.

  • Mopping

    Reviewers rate it highly

This is its strongest suit. Xataka says it mops better than anything else it has tested, with the odd stain resisting, and Just A Dad Approved gave mopping his top mark, though it won't mop right up to a carpet edge.

  • Navigation and obstacles

    Reviewers rate it highly

Xataka found it one of the quickest round its home, never getting lost or swallowing anything, and Just A Dad Approved saw it dodge toys and cords and always find the dock over three months, though it re-covers ground in big rooms.

  • Dock and upkeep

    Reviewers rate it highly

Upkeep is light. Xataka found the dock kept maintenance minimal and the clean tank lasted nearly twice as long as usual, and Just A Dad Approved found it never failed to empty. Both flag pricey bags, solution and replacement brushes.

  • App and software

    Mixed results

Xataka found the app quick and intuitive enough for non-technical users. Just A Dad Approved often had to close and reopen it to refresh, had to reset the robot twice after Wi-Fi dropouts, and found few settings beyond frequency controls.

  • Noise

    Not enough evidence

Only Just A Dad Approved reported on noise, finding the robot noisy throughout a clean and the emptying loud too.

  • Reliability and support

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use has judged iRobot's support. Over three months Just A Dad Approved had to reset it twice after Wi-Fi dropouts, but saw none of the leaks that hit the Max 705.

  • Value

    Mixed results

Xataka thought its price attractive for a high-end robot this complete. Just A Dad Approved disagreed, calling it a good robot at a price where good isn't enough when rivals offer more.

Verdicts come from independent, hands-on, finished reviews. An area needs at least two of them before we say more than “Not enough evidence”. We don't score robots ourselves. How this works

Mopping is its strongest suit

Xataka says it mops better than anything else it has tested. It spots marks, and the hot water, cleaning solution and spinning roller do a good job, though the odd stain resists. Because the roller is rinsed as it goes, it doesn't drag dirt around. Just A Dad Approved gave mopping his highest mark and found the dirty-water tank came back filthy every run. His complaint is that it won't mop right up to a carpet edge, because the map editor doesn't show where the carpet is.

Dodges clutter and finds home

Xataka found it one of the fastest robots to get round its home, and it never got lost, swallowed anything or bothered the dogs. On the downside, it doesn't clean under clutter it avoids, and the side brushes don't reach into corners as well as some. Just A Dad Approved saw it dodge toys and cords and always make it back to the dock, but noticed it re-covers ground and jumps between lines in big rooms.

Pet hair divides the testers

Xataka found hair left in fabrics dropped almost to nothing, and the brushes collected no hair balls in weeks with two big dogs. Just A Dad Approved agrees it vacuums dog hair well and never failed to empty, but the dual rubber brushes still wrapped with hair in his tangle test, which he warns could damage the roller if ignored. His test deliberately loads long hair, which may explain the gap. Check the brushes every week or two.

Noise and software niggles

Just A Dad Approved's wife noticed the noise on its very first run, and he found the emptying loud too. He had to reset it twice after it lost Wi-Fi and flashed red, and often had to close and reopen the app to refresh it. There's no do-not-disturb setting. Xataka had a different experience, calling the app quick and intuitive enough for non-technical users. If you'll run it while you're home, the noise report matters more than the app one.

Low upkeep, pricey parts

Xataka found it uses so little water that the clean tank lasted nearly twice as long as usual between refills. At maximum suction it vacuumed a 55 square metre flat in 40 minutes on a third of its battery. Just A Dad Approved found the roller, mop and sensors easy to get at. Both flag running costs: Xataka says the replacement bags and cleaning solution are expensive, and Just A Dad Approved says the same of the roller and main brush.

Just A Dad Approved tested the US Max 775 Pet Combo, sold under the Max 775 Combo name elsewhere.

Our take

Should you buy the Roomba Max 775 Combo?

Best for: Larger homes with mostly hard floors. Skip it if: You need it to clean quietly while you work or rest nearby.

buy it for a larger home with mostly hard floors and pets, if strong mopping and a dock that looks after the roller matter most. The Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Flow is the quiet roller-mop choice, and the Dreame Aqua10 Ultra Roller is the one several testers call the best mopper they've seen.

The Max 775 Combo sits near the top of iRobot's current range. Instead of pads it uses a long roller mop that is rinsed as it goes, slides out to the side for edges and gets covered when the robot reaches carpet. The dock empties the bin, washes the roller in hot water, dries it with heat and mixes in cleaning solution. It's a big machine, 10.5cm tall and over five and a half kilos, with a dock to match.

Both testers rated the mopping and the obstacle dodging. Xataka says it mops better than anything else it has tested and found it one of the quickest robots round its home, and Just A Dad Approved gave mopping his top mark and saw it dodge toys and cords for three months. They split on hair. Xataka saw no hair balls on the brushes in weeks with two large dogs, while Just A Dad Approved's long-hair test left both rubber brushes wrapped. Just A Dad Approved also found it noisy throughout a clean, had to reset it twice after Wi-Fi dropouts and often had to reopen the app, where Xataka found the app quick and intuitive. Both flag pricey bags, solution and replacement brushes. Xataka thought the price fair, but Just A Dad Approved says rivals offer more for the money.

The questions people ask about this one

Will it avoid cables and pet mess?

It's good at it. Just A Dad Approved saw it dodge toys, cords and everyday clutter throughout three months, and Xataka never had it swallow anything. Neither staged a pet-mess test, so still check the floor if accidents are likely.

Does it fit under low furniture?

It's 10.5cm tall and about 37cm across, per the specifications. Xataka found the laser sits inside the body, so there's no bump on top, and it fits under cupboard doors, but the body is bigger than most. Measure under low sofas first.

Can it leave the mop behind for carpet?

No, but it lifts the roller and covers it when it detects carpet, per the specifications. Just A Dad Approved found it then stays a little back from the carpet edge, so the strip of hard floor beside rugs doesn't get mopped.

How big is the dock, and is it loud?

It's 45.6cm deep, 43cm wide and 43.2cm tall, per the specifications, though Xataka didn't find it especially bulky. Just A Dad Approved found the emptying loud, and the robot noisy the whole time it cleans.

How often do I have to empty or refill it?

iRobot claims up to three months between dust-bag changes, per the specifications. Xataka found the clean-water tank lasted nearly twice as long as usual. Cleaning solution goes in the dock, and Xataka ran through the sample bottle quickly.

Will it cope with a large home?

Yes. Xataka used only a third of the battery vacuuming 55 square metres at full power, and reckons it has plenty for 100 square metres. If it runs low it recharges and carries on, which Just A Dad Approved warns can happen in the small hours.

Dreame · $749

Aqua10 Ultra Roller

Why consider it: Several testers call its roller mopping the best they've seen, and its dock keeps rugs dry.

The compromise: It's slow, hungry on battery, and owners have reported leaking docks.

Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Flow
Roborock · $799.99

Qrevo Curv 2 Flow

Why consider it: A quiet, low-fuss roller-mop robot that vacuums strongly and resists tangles on hard floors.

The compromise: The roller struggles with dried stains, and the tall body won't fit under low sofas.

eufy Omni C28

Omni C28

Why consider it: A cheaper roller-mop robot whose vacuuming, hair handling and mopping impressed testers.

The compromise: It has no camera, so small clutter and chair legs can catch it out.
