Short answer: start with the Roborock Saros 20 if you want a premium cleaner for a home with shedding pets. Check the carpet and obstacle-handling trade-offs below before paying more: reviewers do not agree on everything it does.

The eufy Omni C28 is worth comparing if you want to spend less, especially when you can clear toys and leads before it runs. The MOVA V50 adds useful emptying controls for heavy shedders, but its carpet-hair results are mixed. Compare the current prices in your country rather than assuming the same model is always cheapest.

Best for your situation

Best robot vacuum for dog hair

The Roborock Saros 20. Its split rollers came out free of hair in Just a Dad Approved's dog hair test. The MOVA V50 also did well in that test, and its adjustable emptying suits very heavy shedders.

Best robot vacuum for cat hair

Start with where the hair collects. If it is under the sofa, measure the gap before choosing the Roborock Saros 20 or eufy Omni C28. Their height matters more than a general “for cats” label. Tom's Guide found the C28 less convincing with cat hair on wooden floors and in corners, so read that limitation if those are your trouble spots.

Best robot vacuum for pet hair and carpet

Compare the Roborock Saros 20 and eufy Omni C28, then look for tests on carpet like yours. RTINGS found the Saros 20 lifted most hair in one pass but left some fine debris and struggled with obstacles on carpet. Hair pickup alone does not tell the whole story. Our carpet guide →

Best robot vacuum for pet hair on hardwood floors

Compare the Roborock Saros 20 and MOVA V50 for hard floors. Check edge pickup and whether loose hair is collected or pushed into corners. If you also want mopping, follow your flooring supplier's care instructions. A good vacuum does not automatically make wet cleaning suitable for your floor.

Best self-emptying robot vacuum for pet hair

The MOVA V50 or Roborock Saros 20. Both docks emptied all the test hair for Just a Dad Approved. The V50's app lets you choose how often it goes back to empty mid-clean.

Best robot vacuum and mop for pet hair

The ECOVACS DEEBOT T90 Pro Omni for muddy paws and spills, because its roller mop keeps rinsing itself. For everyday marks, the Saros 20 and eufy Omni C28 both mop well. Roller mop vs spinning pads →

Best robot vacuum for pet hair without a mop

Few good robots come without a mop now. If you don't need one, the eufy E20 3-in-1 is the pick. It has no mop, and Vacuum Wars found it picked up nearly all the flattened pet hair with nothing tangled. RTINGS found surface hair came up well but deeply embedded hair stayed in the carpet. It also converts into a stick and handheld vacuum, which is handy for pet hair on sofas and stairs. See the eufy E20 profile →

Best affordable robot vacuum for pet hair

Check the current offer on the eufy Omni C28 first. It is our value candidate because its cleaning results are strong, not because it must always be the cheapest. Its trade-off is small-object avoidance, so plan to pick up leads and toys before it runs.

What matters most for pet hair

Start with these five checks. Which matters most depends on your floors, your pets and how much preparation you are willing to do.

1. A brush that picks up hair and is easy to clean. An anti-tangle brush is useful, but a clean roller is only half the result. You also want the hair off the floor. Look at pickup and tangling as separate tests, then check the brush ends after your first few runs.

  • Split or tapered rollers: these aim to guide hair towards the intake. Results depend on the exact design, the hair and the carpet, so do not choose by the brush name alone.
  • Brush access: check how easily the roller and its end caps come out. Even a good design needs occasional cleaning, and a five-minute job is preferable to dismantling a cleaning head.
Three robot vacuum brush roller designs: a traditional roller that wraps hair, a floating roller that sheds hair off one end, and a split roller that guides hair to the centre.
How the three brush roller designs handle long hair.

Side brushes matter too. Roborock's Saros 20 has a tangle-resistant side brush. Simpler side brushes, like those on the eufy E25 and Roomba 405, still collect hair.

2. A dock that empties hair. A robot's own bin is small and fills up quickly in a pet home. The dock needs strong suction to pull everything into the bag. It also needs a smooth route from the bin to the bag, because sharp bends are where hair gets stuck. Just a Dad Approved found this separates robots more than you'd expect.

3. How often it goes back to empty. Some apps let you choose how often the robot returns to the dock mid-clean. With lots of hair, emptying more often keeps pickup strong. The MOVA V50's app recently gained a slider for exactly this. Roborock offers a simpler high or normal setting.

4. Suction. Suction helps, but the advertised figure cannot tell you how well a robot lifts embedded hair. The brush, airflow and contact with the carpet all matter. Put more weight on a relevant cleaning test than on the largest number in a comparison table.

5. Avoiding pet mess. Look for an explicit pet-waste avoidance feature and tests of that exact model. Ordinary navigation sensors are not enough evidence. Even a camera-equipped robot can spread an accident around the house, so check the floor before it runs. Read our pet mess guide →

Be realistic about heavy shedders. Both reviewers say no robot keeps up with several double-coated dogs, such as huskies, in full moult. A robot keeps hair under control between your own cleans, especially if it runs daily. It won't replace every vacuum.

The picks in detail

Roborock Saros 20 robot vacuum and dock

Roborock Saros 20: best overall for pet hair

  • pet hair Reviewers rate it highly
  • carpet Mixed results
  • navigation Mixed results

Why we picked it

  • Rated highly for pet hair on its profile. TechRadar was especially pleased with pet-hair removal, Expert Reviews found it pulled dog hair out of deep carpet and along skirting boards, and Vacuum Wars got above-average pickup of flattened hair with no hair at all wrapped round the brush. RTINGS also reviewed it.
  • Vacuum Nerds rank it their best robot of the year so far. It had the highest carpet pickup in their tests, detected stains reliably, and avoided obstacles better than most.
  • Just a Dad Approved found its split rollers came out free of hair, its tangle-resistant side brush stayed clean, and its dock emptied all the hair.

Worth knowing

  • Compare its current offer with the V50 and C28. Decide how much the features you will actually use are worth before paying the difference.
  • Its obstacle avoidance is so careful that it sometimes treated loose hair as a cable and went round it. Reviewers differ on pet mess: Expert Reviews saw it dodge a fake pet mess, but RTINGS found its avoidance unreliable with pet waste.
  • Do not treat the Saros 10R as the same cleaner with an older name. Reviewers report different hair-pickup and obstacle-handling results. Read its own profile if a discounted offer makes it tempting.

eufy Omni C28 robot vacuum and dock

eufy Omni C28: best mid-price

  • pet hair Reviewers rate it highly
  • carpet Reviewers rate it highly
  • navigation Mixed results

Why we picked it

  • Rated highly for pet hair, carpet and mopping on its profile, from five reviews. Vacuum Wars saw all the flattened pet hair lifted from carpet and no long hair wrapped round the brush, Expert Reviews got almost all the dog hair up, and Trusted Reviews found nothing tangled after its hair test.
  • On carpet, Vacuum Wars measured well-above-average grit removal from medium pile, and Expert Reviews found carpets looked fluffed up and hair-free. Vacuum Wars also put it among the best mops it has tested.
  • Reviewers agree it's strong value. Expert Reviews called it the best-value robot vacuum and mop it has tested, and Tom's Guide said it's hard to beat for the price. T3 also reviewed it.

Worth knowing

  • Small-object avoidance is a weakness. Trusted Reviews saw it miss a fake pet mess and Vacuum Wars scored its avoidance below average, so clear the floor before it runs.
  • Tom's Guide found corners and cat hair on wooden floors harder going.
  • The dock empties, washes and dries, but has no detergent slot, and its tank flap can swing open if it isn't latched.

MOVA V50 Ultra Complete robot vacuum and dock

MOVA V50: best value flagship, and good for heavy shedders

  • pet hair Mixed results
  • carpet Mixed results
  • navigation Mixed results

Why we picked it

  • Just a Dad Approved named it its 2026 robot of the year for pet homes. It picked up the test hair and emptied it all into the dock bag. It also did very well in the pet-waste avoidance test.
  • Vacuum Nerds found it strongly resists hair tangling, and it had one of the highest carpet pickup scores they recorded. They also say it handles obstacles well, thanks to a camera and a sensor that tucks away so it can get under low furniture.

Worth knowing

  • Reviewers are mixed on its hair pickup. In home-style tests, Vacuum Wars measured above-average pickup of flattened hair with no long hair tangled, and SlashGear found it handled cat hair well. In the lab, RTINGS saw pet hair left behind after each pass, and it found fine dust left in carpet and debris pushed deeper into high pile. So results depend on the test and your carpet.
  • Just a Dad Approved saw small clumps of hair collect at the end of the brush now and then. He didn't find it a real problem.
  • Vacuum Nerds found its stain detection unreliable, and its mopping only average for a flagship.
  • It sometimes mistook dark hair on a pale floor for a cable and steered around it. That could matter at home too. Check whether your usual clumps are being collected rather than repeatedly avoided.

ECOVACS DEEBOT T90 Pro Omni robot vacuum and dock

ECOVACS DEEBOT T90 Pro Omni: best for muddy paws

  • pet hair Mixed results
  • carpet Mixed results
  • navigation Mixed results

Why we picked it

  • Vacuum Nerds found excellent carpet pickup, better than ECOVACS' more expensive X12. They also found a very tangle-resistant roller mop that cleaned up dried stains easily, and fast charging.
  • Vacuum Wars recorded all the flattened pet hair picked up and no tangling in its long-hair test, and one of the best dried-stain results it has seen.
  • A roller mop copes better with wet, muddy mess than spinning pads, because it keeps rinsing itself as it goes. Roller mop vs spinning pads →

Worth knowing

  • Reviewers are mixed on pet hair at home. Over three months with two Border Collies, TechRadar found hair left on floors and carpet and wrapped round the brush and wheels.
  • Vacuum Nerds found its obstacle avoidance weaker than pricier rivals like the Narwal Flow 2, and its dock less advanced. If pet mess is a risk, do not rely on any of these robots to avoid it every time.

Trade-offs to read before buying

  • iRobot Roomba 405: last in Just a Dad Approved's hair test. Hair wrapped heavily around its brush roller, it struggled to empty hair into the dock, and it failed the pet-waste test. That finding belongs to the 405 and should not be treated as a test of every Roomba.
  • eufy E25: it picked up hair well and avoided pet waste, but it's loud when emptying and has few settings. Just a Dad Approved suggests it for smaller homes only.

Where reviewers disagree

  • MOVA P10 Pro. Just a Dad Approved rated it highly in his hair test, especially with an optional tangle-cutting brush fitted. But RTINGS, Vacuum Wars and TechGearLab all found it pushed hair around on carpet rather than picking it up. The difference is probably the floor: his test was on a hard floor. It's a sensible budget choice for hard floors, but not for carpet. See the MOVA P10 Pro profile →
  • Dreame D30 Ultra. Vacuum Nerds measured near-flagship carpet pickup using sand, but Vacuum Wars found its pet hair pickup on carpet well below average. Reviewers also found problems with its navigation, and it has no camera to spot pet mess. Sand and long hair behave very differently, so we don't recommend it for pet homes. See the Dreame D30 Ultra profile →
  • Dreame X60 and pet mess. It failed Just a Dad Approved's pet-waste test. Vacuum Nerds, in separate testing, rated it among the better robots for spotting pet mess. Results like this depend on the test setup, such as what the stand-in mess is and how the light falls. So treat a camera as a way to reduce the risk, not remove it. See the Dreame X60 profile →

Getting the best from a robot in a pet home

  • Run it daily. Short, frequent runs stop hair building up in carpet and in the robot.
  • Choose more frequent emptying if your app offers it, and check the bin afterwards. That can reduce blockages, but it does not make them impossible.
  • Give pet areas extra passes. Just a Dad Approved runs a second pass in the room with the dog bed, or splits big rooms into smaller zones in the app.
  • Check the floor before it runs, especially with a puppy or kitten, and avoid running it while you're out until you trust it. Pet mess guide →
  • Keep up the maintenance. Clean the filter monthly, and check the brush ends and the side brush for hair. Maintenance checklist →

Questions people ask

Which robot vacuum is best for long pet hair?

Look for both long-hair pickup and tangling tests on your type of floor. Split rollers can help, but they do not guarantee good carpet pickup. Also check how easily you can remove hair from the brush ends.

Does more suction mean better pet hair pickup?

Not necessarily. The suction claim does not measure hair left in carpet or hair wrapped around a brush. A test using embedded hair is more useful for this decision.

Can a robot vacuum keep up with a heavy shedder?

Not on its own. A daily run keeps hair under control, but with several heavy shedders you'll still need an occasional manual vacuum.

Will a robot vacuum avoid dog poo?

Some models try to identify and avoid it, but none should be trusted to prevent every accident. Results differ between tests, including for the Saros 20. Check the floor before starting a clean if your pet is prone to accidents.

Is it worth getting a robot vacuum for pet hair?

Yes, if you choose one with a tangle-free brush and a self-emptying dock and let it run daily. It stops hair building up between your own cleans. Choose badly and you'll spend your time cutting hair off the brush instead.

Is a Roomba or a Shark better for pet hair?

Compare exact models rather than choosing a brand. A poor result for one Roomba or Shark does not establish how the rest perform. Look for carpet-hair pickup, brush cleaning and dock-emptying evidence for the two models you are considering.

What's the best robot vacuum for heavy pet hair?

The Roborock Saros 20 or MOVA V50, set to empty often and run daily. With several heavy shedders, expect to vacuum by hand now and then as well.

Why does my robot avoid clumps of hair?

Obstacle detection can mistake dark hair on a pale floor for an object it should avoid. Watch whether a second pass helps rather than assuming it will. Persistent missed clumps are a cleaning limitation worth raising with support.
