What changes the decision
Start with the carpet in your busiest room. A short, firm bedroom carpet is a different job from a deep living-room rug full of dog hair. Crumb pickup, embedded grit and hair removal tell you different things, so we look at those results separately. A bigger suction number on the box does not settle the question.
For thick carpets, look at movement as well as pickup. A robot needs to keep its brush working against the carpet without getting bogged down. TechRadar found the Qrevo Curv 2 Pro handled both its debris test and a thick upstairs carpet well, although small-object avoidance was less convincing. That makes it worth comparing if your floors are mostly carpet and you can clear loose clutter first.
For pet hair on a smaller budget, compare the eufy Omni C28. Vacuum Wars measured 89% removal of sand from medium-pile carpet and complete pickup in its flattened-hair test. Those are separate tests, not a promise of a spotless carpet at home. Its obstacle avoidance was below average in the same review. We would pay attention to that trade-off if toys and charging leads tend to stay on your floor.
For mixed floors, ask where the wet mop goes. Lifting it may be enough for a thin rug, but deep fibres can still touch a raised pad. A model that leaves its mops in the dock gives you another option for carpet-only runs. Check the exact model and setting rather than assuming all robots in the same range work alike.
Treat fringes, lightweight mats and black rugs as separate checks during the return period. Watch a complete run, including the journey back to the dock. If the robot folds a rug over, catches a fringe or repeatedly misses a strip, another pass may not solve the problem. Keep the troublesome area out of its route until you have a reliable setup.
You will still need a conventional vacuum for stairs, upholstery and an occasional deeper clean. The point of a robot is to keep the everyday mess down between those jobs. If shedding is your main problem, our pet-hair guide goes into brush cleaning and emptying in more detail.
Buying in your market: United Kingdom
Measure doorway thresholds, rug edges and the full station footprint in centimetres or millimetres. In homes with several floors, allow for carrying the robot and leaving the wash station on one level. UK Complete or accessory bundles can change the included consumables without changing the underlying robot.
Compare UK offers in pounds for the exact model, dock and accessories. Confirm whether the displayed total includes VAT and delivery, and check the seller’s return terms. A euro or US-dollar listing is not a UK price, even if international shipping appears possible.
For an imported model, verify the supplied plug, service destination and responsibility for return shipping. Prices shown are dated research records and can change. Unknown local stock remains unknown rather than being inferred from a manufacturer’s global launch.
Comparison at a glance
| Model | Evidence summary | Local offer |
|---|---|---|
| Dreame Matrix10 Pro | An excellent cleaner with one genuinely distinctive feature: it swaps mop sets for different rooms. The system is more useful for hygiene-conscious homes than for raw cleaning performance, because cheaper premium robots clean almost as well. | £879.00 |
| eufy Omni S2 | Fantastic when it works, but current owner feedback raises too many reliability concerns for us to recommend it confidently at a premium price. | £1,299.00 |
| Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Pro | A polished premium Roborock with excellent hair handling, edge cleaning and quiet operation. It is easy to recommend if you can live without an automatic detergent dispenser. | £1,199.99 |
| Shark ThermaCharged PowerDetect | Vacuums strongly, but leaves floors wet after mopping and the app is basic. | £679.99 |
| Tapo RV50 Pro Omni | Impressed in a short review; one owner has had a run of faults. | £386.98 |
| Roborock Saros 10 | A very strong premium robot for pet hair, cables and raised room transitions. Long-term owners like the cleaning and low maintenance, but there are enough hardware-failure reports that we would buy it from a retailer with good replacement support. | £799.99 |
| ECOVACS DEEBOT T50 PRO OMNI | An attractive choice when low sofas are the problem. Vacuuming reviews are encouraging, but cable avoidance and automatic mopping receive mixed reports. Modest mop clearance and imperfect emptying also mean rugs and maintenance need attention. | £399.00 |
| Dreame L10s Ultra Gen 3 | A lot of automation for the money and a good maintenance cleaner for a tidy home. The weak point is obstacle avoidance, so it suits people who are happy to keep cables and small clutter off the floor. | £329.00 |

Choose for your floor plan
Measure the doorway thresholds it must cross and the gap beneath your sofa. Then find a place for the dock, leaving room to lift its lids and remove the water tanks. A robot that cannot reach the room you bought it for is an expensive way to clean the hallway.
For mixed flooring, check how the exact model protects rugs: lifting, detaching or parking its mop are different solutions. Deep pile may still touch a raised wet pad. Test rug boundaries and transitions during the return period, and keep unsuitable surfaces excluded.
Cleaning evidence that matters
Look for pickup tests on comparable surfaces and longer-term reports about repeated missed areas. Fine dust, larger crumbs and embedded hair are separate challenges. A test on a bare floor does not establish carpet performance, while a high suction figure cannot show how well the brush maintains contact.
Obstacle avoidance should reduce preparation, but it is not permission to leave cables or pet waste on the floor. Compare reported failures for the exact model and software version. Clear risky objects before scheduled runs, particularly when you cannot supervise the first few passes.
What an automatic dock still asks of you
A self-emptying dock saves you emptying a small bin after every run. You still change bags, remove hair from the brushes and clean the filter. A mop-washing dock adds water tanks and a wash tray to that routine.
Before paying more for a dock, check what it actually takes off your hands. Then look up replacement bags, filters and mop parts. Our running-cost guide shows how to compare the ongoing bill without guessing how long a battery will last.
A useful first-week check
Run the robot across every intended room, not only the easiest open area. Check edges, door strips, chair legs and return-to-dock behaviour. Photograph recurring missed areas and note the time spent rescuing the robot, removing hair and cleaning the dock.
Keep packaging until you have checked the seller’s return terms. If the machine consistently fails on your layout, another navigation or brush design is more useful than repeatedly changing cleaning modes. Our model summaries below separate positive evidence from recurring limitations.
