What reviewers found

Two home tests so far. Reviews.org tested the 105 Combo with the AutoEmpty dock in Australia, and Just A Dad Approved tested the 105 family in its own studio. Just A Dad Approved liked the quick laser mapping. Both found it has no real obstacle avoidance and that the mop only suits light messes. The app and the emptying dock split them: Just A Dad Approved rated both, while Reviews.org found the app slow and the dock unreliable.

Reviews.org, hands-on, May 2025 · Just A Dad Approved, hands-on

  • Hard floors

    Mixed results

Adequate rather than thorough. Reviews.org found pickup decent for the price but saw oats and sprinkles flung up to five metres and dust left along walls. Just A Dad Approved liked its tight, straight cleaning lines once mapped.

  • Carpet and rugs

    Not enough evidence

Only Just A Dad Approved rated its carpet cleaning, finding it average. With the mop pad fitted it avoids carpet altogether, which Reviews.org found could leave whole areas uncleaned.

  • Pet hair

    Not enough evidence

Only Just A Dad Approved tested hair, finding long strands wrapped round the ends of its single brush, with just a basic cutting tool in the dock to clear them.

  • Mopping

    Mixed results

It's a light wipe only. Just A Dad Approved found the dragged pad lifted muddy paw prints surprisingly well but hit its limit fast on bigger messes, and Reviews.org saw tomato sauce and honey smeared across the floor.

  • Navigation and obstacles

    Reviewers found problems

Mapping is quick, but there's no real obstacle avoidance. Just A Dad Approved found cables, small toys and low items get run over, and Reviews.org saw it bump into objects and sometimes refuse to reach a zone until carried there.

  • Dock and upkeep

    Mixed results

The testers split. Just A Dad Approved found the AutoEmpty dock emptied cleanly after its muddy test, though the charging contacts barely touched, while Reviews.org found it often left dirt in the robot's bin.

  • App and software

    Mixed results

Just A Dad Approved found the new Roomba Home app a real upgrade, with a working room editor, but missing controls such as mop wetness. Reviews.org called it the least intuitive robot vacuum app it had used, slow to load and full of extra taps.

  • Noise

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use reported how loud the robot or its dock is.

  • Reliability and support

    Not enough evidence

None of the reviews we use has run it long-term or judged iRobot's support yet.

  • Value

    Reviewers found problems

Both testers found it poor value in this configuration. Just A Dad Approved says rivals such as the Mova S10 Plus do more for less unless it's heavily discounted, and Reviews.org found the mop and dock add-ons not worth their cost.

Verdicts come from independent, hands-on, finished reviews. An area needs at least two of them before we say more than “Not enough evidence”. We don't score robots ourselves. How this works

Decent vacuuming for the price

Reviews.org measured about 85% to 90% pickup of both large and small debris, which it called excellent at this price. It also saw the robot push some oats and sprinkles up to five metres away, and edge cleaning dropped to about 80%. Just A Dad Approved praised its tight, straight cleaning lines. Expect a tidy result in the middle of rooms, with the odd dusty edge to finish with a stick vacuum.

The mop is a light wipe

The pad is dragged along with no pressure or scrubbing, Just A Dad Approved notes, though it lifted muddy paw prints surprisingly well in its corner test. Reviews.org had worse luck, with tomato sauce and honey smeared across about three square metres of floor. Use it for dust and small drips, not proper spills. Just A Dad Approved also says you can't set how wet the pad gets, although iRobot lists three water levels.

Clear the floor first

Just A Dad Approved found the front sensor is only there for docking, so cables, small toys and low items get run over. Reviews.org described it bumping into objects and edging round them rather than avoiding them, and warned it can get stuck. Both advise tidying up before every run. It's the biggest gap against rivals that now spot obstacles at similar prices.

Carpet avoidance can cut off rooms

With the pad fitted, the robot won't go on carpet at all, because it can't lift the mop. Just A Dad Approved saw that as a partial fix, since rugs stay dry but don't get vacuumed. Reviews.org found it sometimes refused to reach a zone, possibly because a large rug was in the way, and had to carry it there. Take the pad off if rugs divide your rooms.

App and dock split the testers

Just A Dad Approved called the new Roomba Home app a real upgrade and found the AutoEmpty dock worked cleanly after its mud test. Reviews.org called the same app the least intuitive it had used, slow to load and full of extra taps, and found the dock often left dirt in the robot's bin. Neither test explains why the dock results differ.

Reviews.org tested the version with the AutoEmpty dock. Just A Dad Approved tested the 105 family, which uses the same robot with either dock.

Our take

Should you buy the Roomba 105 Combo?

Best for: Small, tidy flats needing regular vacuuming. Skip it if: You want it to scrub floors or wash its own mop.

fine for regular vacuuming of a tidy, mostly hard-floored flat if you find it heavily discounted. For a mop that scrubs, the Roborock Qrevo S or MOVA P10 Pro Ultra does much more, and for simple vacuuming with a compact emptying dock look at the Tapo RV20 Max Plus.

The 105 Combo is the entry to iRobot's rebuilt Roomba range. It is the basic Roomba 105 vacuum with a water tank and a flat cloth pad added, sold with a plain charging dock or an AutoEmpty dock that holds the dirt. It maps your home with a laser rather than bumping about blind, but there is no sensor for small objects, and the pad is simply dragged along with no scrubbing or lifting, so the robot avoids carpet altogether when the pad is fitted.

Reviews.org measured pickup of nearly nine tenths of the debris it laid down and called that excellent for the price, though it saw oats flung across the room and dust left along walls. Just A Dad Approved liked its tight, straight cleaning lines. The mop is a light wipe: Just A Dad Approved found it lifted muddy paw prints surprisingly well, while Reviews.org saw tomato sauce and honey smeared across the floor. Both found cables and small toys get run over, and Reviews.org had to carry it to a zone it refused to reach. They split on the rest. Just A Dad Approved rated the new app and found the AutoEmpty dock emptied cleanly, while Reviews.org called the app the least intuitive it had used and found the dock often left dirt in the bin. Both judged it poor value at full price, and Just A Dad Approved suggests the plain 105 vacuum instead.

The questions people ask about this one

Will it avoid cables and pet mess?

No. Just A Dad Approved found the front sensor is only for docking and it ran over cables and small items, and Reviews.org saw it bump into objects rather than steer round them. Tidy the floor first and keep it away from pet accidents.

Does it fit under low furniture?

It's 10.4cm tall, per the specifications, with a laser turret on top. That's on the tall side, so measure the gap under your sofa and bed before you buy.

Can it cross rugs and raised thresholds between rooms?

With the mop fitted, it avoids carpet completely, per the specifications. Reviews.org found that could stop it reaching rooms beyond a large rug. iRobot doesn't list a threshold height, so check any raised doorway thresholds before you buy.

Do I need the AutoEmpty dock version?

Only if automatic dust emptying is worth the extra cost to you. Just A Dad Approved found the AutoEmpty dock worked cleanly, but Reviews.org saw dirt left in the bin. You still refill water and wash the mop yourself either way, and with the plain charging dock you empty the bin by hand too.

Does it work without Wi-Fi?

iRobot lists a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and the app as requirements, per the specifications. Reviews.org could start a clean with the robot's button without opening the app, but that doesn't show everything works with Wi-Fi off, so don't take the button as proof it runs fully offline.

Roborock Qrevo S
Roborock

Qrevo S

Why consider it: Strong hard-floor pickup and mopping, with a dock that empties, refills and washes the mops.

The compromise: It struggles with carpet hair and small objects, so it only suits fairly clear floors.

Tapo RV20 Max Plus
Tapo

RV20 Max Plus

Why consider it: Mapped vacuuming and automatic emptying in a fairly compact package.

The compromise: Its simple mop is a light wipe, and it gets caught on low furniture and loose objects.

MOVA P10 Pro Ultra
MOVA

P10 Pro Ultra

Why consider it: Good hard-floor cleaning, handles obstacles well and has a well-automated dock.

The compromise: Tests found it weak on pet hair in carpet and along edges.
