Window-cleaning robots: what we can and cannot tell you yet

This category has one serious player in Britain, and that is the whole problem. Ranking a single manufacturer's own range against itself would be a product page wearing the clothes of a comparison, so we have not done it. Here is what we verified, what is missing, and what to compare yourself.

Why there is no ranking here

We rank when the evidence lets us. It does not here yet.

  1. 01

The category is one brand deep in Britain. Ecovacs publishes UK prices — the WINBOT W2S OMNI was £449.00, reduced from £529.00, on 19 September 2026 — but a list whose every entry comes from one manufacturer tells a buyer nothing about whether that manufacturer is the right choice.

  2. 02

The alternatives do not publish UK prices. HOBOT and Mamibot both make window robots and both run specification-only websites with no prices in any currency, so there is no second brand we can price against Ecovacs.

  3. 03

TechRadar's five-star window-robot review covers the W2 PRO OMNI, a different model from the ones sold here, and we do not move scores between variants.

What we have actually verified

Not a ranking — the models whose specifications we confirmed against a named source, most complete first.

What to compare, since we cannot compare it for you

The questions that decide this category, in the order they usually matter.

01

What holds it on, and what happens when the power cuts

This is the only category where a failure means a machine falling from a first-floor window. Look for the stated adhesion force, the safety rope's rating, and how long the robot stays attached after a power cut — 30 minutes is the figure Ecovacs publishes.

02

Your smallest pane, not your largest

Minimum pane size decides whether the robot works at all. The full-size models need about 30 × 40 cm; the mini exists because Georgian and cottage windows are smaller than that. Measure the smallest window you actually want cleaned.

03

Frameless, framed or tilting glass

Frame detection and tilt tolerance vary, and a robot that handles a flat picture window may stall on a frame every 40cm. Check the tilt angle tolerance if any of your glass is not vertical.

04

How the water gets on the glass

Spray nozzle count and tank size decide how far it gets before you refill. The current models quote roughly 50 m² per tank, which is a house of average windows, once.

05

Whether you will supervise it anyway

Most owners stay in the room. If you were expecting to set it going and leave the house, read reviews about noise and cable management first — the safety tether has to be anchored somewhere.

What would turn this into a ranking

Specific and checkable, so you can hold us to it. When these are true, this page becomes a ranked list like the rest of the site.

  • A second manufacturer publishing UK prices, which is the single thing that would turn this into a real comparison.
  • An independent test of the exact models on sale here, rather than of their near-identical siblings.

Questions people ask

Are window-cleaning robots worth it?

For large areas of flat glass that are awkward to reach, they do the job people buy them for. For a handful of small panes, a cloth is faster. The minimum pane size, not the price, is what rules most homes in or out.

Which window robot should I buy?

We will not rank a single-brand category whose price we cannot confirm. The models below carry every specification we verified against Ecovacs' own pages, so you can judge against your own windows.

Will it fall off?

The published protections are substantial — 12 stages, a rope rated to 100kg, and 30 minutes of adhesion after a power cut. Anchor the safety rope to something solid every time, and treat the first run as supervised.

What does the W2S OMNI cost?

£449.00, reduced from £529.00, on Ecovacs' own UK shop on 19 September 2026. An earlier version of this page withheld that price because we had mistaken the sale price and the struck-through was-price for two contradictory figures. That was our mistake, and the price is published.

Deciding anyway?
