Check every pane before purchase
Measure each pane and identify frames, seals, handles and obstructions. Minimum pane dimensions, frameless compatibility, textured glass and coatings are model-specific restrictions. A marketing image of a large glass wall does not establish compatibility with your windows.
Use the exact manual for permitted surfaces and placement. A robot that handles a large uninterrupted pane may be inconvenient on many small sections because you must move it manually. Include the time required to change pads between dirty panes.
Power, tether and supervision
Understand the power arrangement before choosing between a mains-powered unit and a station-based design. Backup power may support attachment during an interruption without powering an ordinary cleaning cycle. Confirm the specified action after a power warning.
Fit the safety tether and attachment exactly as instructed, with a suitable anchor and controlled area below. Never lean outside or improvise an anchor to place the robot. Stay within the manufacturer’s operating conditions for wind, rain, temperature and supervision.
Edges and streaks decide the result
Cleaning movement and pad condition matter more than a suction figure. Compare independent findings on edges, corners and streaking on glass similar to yours. Heavy deposits may need pre-cleaning, while a dirty pad can move grime around rather than remove it.
Check which fluid is permitted and whether replacement pads are readily available. Consider a second pad set so you can change to a clean one between passes. A robot may reduce repetitive wiping without eliminating occasional manual finishing.
When manual cleaning is the better buy
For a few small windows, a squeegee or professional service may be simpler and cheaper. For exterior glass that cannot be reached and tethered safely, professional access is the sensible comparison. Do not buy on the assumption that a robot removes height-related access problems.
During the return period, test on an accessible compatible pane and time setup, cleaning, pad changes and finishing. Judge the whole job. Repeated loss of attachment, unexplained warnings or streaking should be investigated using the manual and support service.
Are window-cleaning robots worth it?
A window robot is worth considering when you have enough compatible glass to offset setup, pad changes and finishing. Time the whole task, including moving between panes and cleaning pads afterwards. Automatic travel alone is not the same as hands-free window cleaning.
For small divided windows, manual cleaning may remain quicker. For difficult exterior access, compare a professional service rather than assuming a robot solves the access problem. Buy only if you can place, tether, supervise and retrieve it according to the manual.
Window robots for frameless glass
Frameless-glass compatibility must be stated for the exact robot and operating conditions. Edge sensing, minimum pane size and the approved tether arrangement all matter. Do not generalise from one model in a brand’s range to another.
Inspect seals, gaps, coatings and nearby obstructions, and check whether the glass is vertical and within the permitted specification. Follow the manufacturer’s exclusions for textured, damaged or treated surfaces. If the manual is ambiguous, obtain support confirmation rather than experimenting at height.
